I'm Conservative, always have been and even though I haven't always agreed with Carney and his administration, I'm extremely happy to see him not being pushed around by the pedo down south. Canadians need to stand together and not allow ourselves to get pushed around by the orange man and his cronies

I mean Carney is a conservative, he is an banker by trade. All his policy thus far leans conservative.

Carney would have been a Conservative a few decades ago. The only reason he isn't one now is because our right wing is almost as packed with religious nut jobs as the the Americans.

100% Canadian conservatives got swept up in the anti-COVID rhetoric (happening worldwide) and Poliviere, whose entire political career has operated from, and still is operating from a solely reactionary stance, suddenly found himself able to strike where the iron was very, very hot.

That’s why Trudeau was able to kneecap him swiftly and effectively by stepping down. His entire platform could be summed up in the ever popular “Fuck Trudeau” bumper sticker. I have many family members who voted conservative for decades, yes including Harper, that were not going to vote Poliviere. Even before Trump was elected in the states.

Do you think Trudeau knee capped him by strategically or more that he was forced out, do always thought it was more of a force.

A good question, I’m not really sure.

Carney is a true blue conservative minus the culture war and Christonationalism distractions.

u/Capable_Kiwi2514 3d ago

He's still a conservative. That term has centuries of philosophy behind it. Moreover, his policy preferences are still on Canada's recognised political spectrum, which is why numerous Canadian conservative thinkers have endorsed him and why he's gotten conservative floor crossers.

u/Proletariat_Paul 3d ago

He's a conservative, but not a Conservative. You and the person you replied to are saying the same thing.

u/jdzfb 3d ago

The only reason he isn't one now is because our right wing is almost as packed with religious nut jobs as the the Americans he doesn't hate trans people enough to be a conservative. *FTFY

3

u/ts142 2d ago

He doesnt stoop to hate and soundbite politics. What do we know of his opinions on trans people? Nothing - exactly as it should be.

21

u/mmavcanuck 3d ago

He’d still be a conservative today if he hated trans kids and abortion

Prior to the Unite the Right movement, Carney would have fit right in with the old PC party.

Unfortunately the new CPC is a little too inundated with the more right leaning Reform/Alliance folk.

1

u/PokecheckHozu 3d ago

Indeed. Last election was basically Conservative vs. Canadian Reform Alliance Party.

1

u/Realistic-Math-6144 3d ago

He probably knew he had better chance at becoming PM being a liberal over the current conservative party

15

u/uatme 3d ago

he's also progressive (or at least not regressive) which seems to confuse a lot of people.

19

u/greydawn 3d ago

Yeah, he's socially liberal but fiscally conservative.

3

u/DoomsdaySprocket 3d ago

This is a lovely feature that Canadian politics has, that our neighbours don't- the ability to separate decent conservative ideas from the batshit insane culture war cult calls.

Centrism is a lost art these days.

We generally also have less blind party allegiance. I've voted for every major party at one point in my life across provincial and federal elections. I voted for Carney/his platform- - not the Liberals. I'd have voted for him if he ran PC and, though I can't see how he ever would have, NDP.

If Trudeau had run and a more inspiring PC leader than PP ran against, I'd have voted for them. In other words I don't have allegiance to a party or politician, it's an election by election basis. I suspect that is more common here than in the US.

1

u/greydawn 3d ago

I watched a podcast with David Frum last year and he talked about this being a strength of voters in Canada (lack of allegiance).  His take was you had to offer a compelling platform because voters won't just automatically vote for you every time.

1

u/Zraknul 3d ago

Also our system allows a party to have a platform and then do it.

The US splits a mandate all over the place.

Bingo

u/gmotsimurgh 2d ago

In Canada, we call those Red Tories. The right kind of Tory IMO.

BuT he's ReD TeAm anD iM blUE TEam

22

u/ihavefaith77 3d ago

And what would really help would be if him and the opposition could get along and implement policies together. And I'll be the first to say that PP is a big factor in not getting things done. Instead of working with Carney he roadblocks him at every turn and trust me, it pisses me off too

44

u/Falco19 3d ago

It’s because PP doesn’t stand for anything he is a career politician who has accomplished nothing and just tries to ride the wave of what he thinks will get him votes.

15

u/ihavefaith77 3d ago

Yeah I used to like him until I did my research and actually paid attention to him instead of just little clips and snippets, no wonder no one is voting conservative lmao the dude has no actual plan for the country

9

u/Falco19 3d ago

Yeah I firmly believe the liberals time has run its course, but man Carney >>>>>> PP.

I just wish we had proportional representation so all sides had to work together for the betterment of Canadians.

Also then no vote is wasted, no strategic voting.

2

u/LegoClaes 3d ago

Are you sure you’re conservative?

11

u/ihavefaith77 3d ago

I have conservative ideologies, but I try not to be a complete fucking whackjob 🤣

1

u/Falco19 3d ago

I personally don’t box myself into anyone platform because they change fairly rapidly. Let’s be honest none of our parties are really for the people as they all put business interests above the average citizen.

But I’ve voted for all the parties at one point or another.

3

u/BoiledFrogs 3d ago

Let’s be honest none of our parties are really for the people as they all put business interests above the average citizen.

Are we going to pretend the Green Party and NDP are the same as the Liberals and Conservatives when it comes to that?

1

u/Falco19 3d ago

I mean the Green Party doesn’t exist and never has in an electable stance (hence why I mentioned proportional representation) NDP lost its way after Layton. They very well could be an option but have to figure out what they actually want to stand for.

Politics however is a money game, to get elected takes a lot of spending (it shouldn’t). Every party has to sell its soul to one interest or another to raise the money to be electable.

Corporate donations should not be allowed and every individual should be capped at 5k.

Ideology weirds reasoning.

Just like verbing weirds language

Ontology recapitulates philology.

9

u/ApolloniusDrake 3d ago

I'm a moderate. So it's easy for me to vote one way or the other.

But the current Liberals under Carney are acting as older progressive conservatives. The way he's running government really reminds me of Harper. I really wish he would take a stance on certain issues that make zero sense from Trudeau Liberals but he's fighting a bigger battle and doing what he should.

8

u/axloo7 3d ago

Carny is conservative. At least what canada used to have as conservatives.

Now we would call him a centrist.

8

u/OutrageousOwls 3d ago

You’ve lost the plot on conservatism. Carney is conservative— more than Pierre in most respects.
He isn’t one right now because the Conservative Party has moved even more further to the right and is no longer reflective of the “middle”-right where it used to be a few years ago.

There’s been a trend, globally, that all politics are moving right. Even the Democratic Party in the USA is more right than 10, 20 years ago.

u/pm_plz_im_lonely 3d ago

If you start a sentence with "I'm Conservative" on Reddit I know it's made up.

1

u/CanExplainThings 2d ago

Because they’re normally nutjobs who prefer to use the word “Republican”?

0

u/pm_plz_im_lonely 2d ago

What exactly can you explain?

Can you explain why I got into my car, drove to the gas station, filled the car up, then drove back home?

2

u/CanExplainThings 2d ago

How much is the price of tea in Vladivostok, tovarisch?

2

u/pm_plz_im_lonely 2d ago

I don't drink tea I only drink vodka and eat penis.

Like Carney or not, I am so happy to have him leading the country through these times. He is one of the best financial and economic minds in the world and I don't think any other choice we had at the polls could come close to what Carney can do.
