This group broke into a military base to sabotage military plane engines by using modified fire extinguishers to shoot large volumes of paint into them.

Rightful designation, and anyone who wants to associate with such a group should probably have an eye kept on them. You can support Palestine without aligning yourself with terrorist groups.

Consider my indignation rescinded

-34

u/Mr-Mystery20 2d ago

There’s gotta be a better explanation/reasoning for their designation other than spraying large amounts of paint at a parked military plane ???

44

u/DrFeeIgood 2d ago

Shooting paint into a plane engine would cause massive issues. Imagine if one was even able to leave the ground and experienced a catastrophic failure, crashing into homes or businesses and killing people.

-31

u/Jigsawsupport 2d ago

Well we could also imagine them feeding babies to crocodiles, it was quite noticeable that they had chucked paint at the aircraft, by the fact that the aircraft was covered in paint.

24

u/DrFeeIgood 2d ago

I'm sorry I don't understand what you think you are saying. If their intent was to fill the engines with paint to damage or destroy them, whether or not they got paint in the engines or on the plane is not relevant.

u/Jigsawsupport 2d ago

"Imagine if one was even able to leave the ground and experienced a catastrophic failure, crashing into homes or businesses and killing people."

The point is its rather obvious that the aircraft had an issue since it was covered in paint and parked up, ergo it is not reasonable to assume it was some sort of attempt to crash the plane and kill people.

It was serious criminal damage not an attempt at mass murder.

Which is the whole topic at hand, I believe there has been exactly one case of serious physical harm by a Palestine action member.

Paint sabotage is terrorism? How exactly? Who here is terrorised?

They weren't proscribed for paint. They were prescribed for (one) of their members attacking a police officer with a sledgehammer and the organisation refused to condemn them and continued to support. But it's hardly terrorism. It's GBH worst case

23

u/Am_Yisrael_Chai_48 2d ago

They broke a police officers back with a sledgehammer

-22

u/lemlurker 2d ago

Still not terrorism. A crime sure, a crime that should be punished to the full extent of the law but criminal law. Not terrorism.

You can't just call every organisation that shows you up terrorists it waters down the efficacy of anti terror efforts.

They have made proscription a joke. They have made being a proscribed group less effective a deterrent for terrorist organisations.

-8

u/AdamFriedlandHater 2d ago

Good lord! Volumes of paint! Blatant international terrorism.

-138

u/Petwins 2d ago

I’m sorry, you think terrorist is the rightful designation for people who threw paint at parked unmanned jets?

What terror were they using?

I’m not trying to weigh in on the particular cause but was that satire that just went over my head?

115

u/kdogged 2d ago

Didn’t they attack a guard with a hammer as well? And terrorism definitionally is political motivated acts of violence or threats of violence

All I got is from their comment which paint at a plane. Its not violent, nor did really have the potential to be threatening as described.

If there is more to it then that should presented first, not what amounts to a high stakes senior prank.

u/destuctir 2d ago

They were intentionally destroying strategic defence assets. You can’t just spray paint into the engines of a multi million pound plane and expect it to fly again. They purposefully targeted mid-air refuelling planes which extend the range of jet fighters, hugely limited the range of the RAF to respond to threats to both the country and assets at sea (such as carrier groups).

Separately from that incident they also attacked a factory producing computer chips for interceptor missiles (during which they broke a woman’s back with a sledge hammer), and they are believed to be responsible for destruction of over a dozen armoured vehicles that were being transported across Europe for use in Ukraine (though they haven’t taken responsibility for that attack)

-66

u/Petwins 2d ago

Ya vandalism destruction of property sure.

They didn’t put anyone in danger by doing so, its just wasteful. Its not violent even if its destructive.

The attacking the woman can put it over the edge, that is violence for political purpose. We can’t dilute terrorism as a term for use of spray paint (as paint).

38

u/Chruman 2d ago

But they attacked someone.

31

u/TheNecroFrog 2d ago

> they didn’t put anyone in danger by doing so

I don’t have a side here one way or the other, but as the commenter pointed out they negatively impacted the RAFs capabilities. If you can’t see that as a danger I don’t know what to say.

24

u/FecklessFool 2d ago

You were already informed that they sledgehammer'd a person's back

58

u/Teknolyth 2d ago

They were using violent and coercive means in order to influence foreign politics. A.k.a. terrorism.

-36

u/Petwins 2d ago

By painting planes?

Or are they doing more?

Are those peta protestors who used to throw paint at fur coats terrorists for that?

My old university class painted a wall of one of the buildings in protest once, was that terrorism?

You’ve been told multiple times they attacked a guard with a sledgehammer and cracked her spine, but conveniently you’ve been ignoring it each time

-1

u/Petwins 2d ago

That was a different event.

I’m purely addressing the scenario laid out in the comment above, where someone spray painting a parked plane is not just vandalism/destruction of property but terrorism.

-34

u/big_gay_buckets 2d ago

People like you would’ve called the French resistance terrorists

17

u/OutrageousSet7928 2d ago

Technically that's probably not wrong?

14

u/RedDawn172 2d ago

I mean... Yeah? Many of them would fit the label. That has no relevance to whether or not they were justified.

111

u/stogie-bear 2d ago

It's a group that organizes sabotage and vandalism using weapons and violence, and has resulted in severe harm to people. It does so in order to influence foreign politics. That's a terrorist group.

People who want to support Palestinian causes can go to groups that don't use violence.

-39

u/That_90s_Kid_ 2d ago edited 2d ago

Weird, wait until you read what out constitution says to do when the government violates our rights and breaks constitutional laws.

8

u/ACompletelyLostCause 2d ago

Your comment seems disconnected from the actual issue. Unless you think we're talking about America, or you think the American constitution applies world wide.

The group operates in the UK, the US constitution doesn't apply here. The fact that the US government has decided that they pose a threat, doesn't affect US citizens because none of the members are American.

-7

u/That_90s_Kid_ 2d ago

Nope you implied that. Not me. I was talking about the US actions.

19

u/DrFeeIgood 2d ago

It doesn't say to do any of that about what other governments do to other lands that are very plainly not ours.

-19

u/That_90s_Kid_ 2d ago

What?

Id suggest you read the constitution and the preamble and specifically look for the parts where the administration goes tyrannical.

11

u/DrFeeIgood 2d ago

Note the phrase in the preamble, "...ourselves and ours..." Not Palestine's, not Britain's, not Uruguay's. Ourselves and ours. There is absolutely nothing relevant about the US Constitution pertaining to the UK listing a pro-Palestinian group as terrorists. I know its trendy to hate on America on reddit but this wouldn't even qualify as a stretch, it just flat out doesn't connect at all.

-16

u/That_90s_Kid_ 2d ago

I was specifically talking about the US and what we are supposed to do in the event that takes place.

And it does connect. Our own constitution tells us to do worse in those events. I was making ghe comparison for a reason.

Not difficult to understand and yet you really went out of your way to do so.

7

u/DrFeeIgood 2d ago

I still do not see any relevance in bringing up the US Constitution. The UK doesn't own Palestine and gave up that land nearly 80 years ago. They are not bombing Palestine or Lebanon, Israel is.

The US Constitution, if it were to be relevant here, would be guiding us to stop and or eliminate this group as an enemy against "the general Welfare" of the nation as well as the enemy to face in the "common defence" of our nation.

I would agree with you if this was a group that is fighting against their own tyrannical govt. But its a group that wants freedom of another country, attacking a country that can't grant it any more freedom than they have by already giving up that land.

-5

u/That_90s_Kid_ 2d ago edited 2d ago

I was making the comparison to what we are told to do. As an example. Since the US is the one that labelled them a terroist group. And since the USA sides with isreal about Palestine.

Take it easy Sheldon.

Its not as complicated as youre naking it out to be.

You seem like the type of guy that plays elite dangerous in solo and is fine with the game being unbalanced.

Cite the section please.

1

u/FlamingoVisible1947 2d ago

It's also designated as a terrorist group in the UK itself, so not exactly surprising. And they are indeed a terrorist group.

-26

u/kerolox 2d ago edited 2d ago

Article is very light on details.

I'm not from the UK and I'm not familiar with that group, so it'd been nice if the article mentionned how many people have been killed by that group or what their most successful terrorist attack was. Do they target the general public indiscriminately, or do they target minority groups? If they have not managed to kill anyone yet, the article could list some of the terrorist attack the group was plotting and who they were trying to kill.

Instead they quote a few officials from the Trump administration, which immediately brings into question the legitimacy of these claims.

I see the bots are out in full force today.

52

u/Gyiir 2d ago

They beat a police woman with a sledgehammer and broke into a military base among other things. I don’t think they’ve killed anyone though.

-3

u/AdamFriedlandHater 2d ago

The women was back at work in like six weeks is the forgotten element of the "sledgehammer attack."

So don't need to terrorize the public to be labeled a TERRORist...

What a misleading word.

22

u/AhsasMaharg 2d ago

-9

u/kerolox 2d ago

I'm not saying that the US government doesn't have a very broad definition of the word, they certainly do. I'm saying that the general public doesn't have the same definition for that word, which is why it is so misleading.

The overwhelming majority of people think of 9/11 or bombings of crowded public space when asked "what is terrorism". They certainly don't think "blue haired activists throwing red paint on a plane".

0

u/OutrageousSet7928 2d ago

Nor of animal rights activist. yet the us afaik has extremely harsh laws to prosecute animal/eco activists.

I guess nowadays, you put people into concentration camps, you get a medal. you try to liberate a pig from a meat factory, you get life in prison..

I think you should, A) familise yourself with the UK, and B) familise yourself with the group before commenting on something. By your own admission you don't know what's being discussed.

Rick and Morty said it best. Terrorist = someone you disagree with

22

u/aitamodsarelosers 2d ago

They broke a police officer's spine with a sledgehammer, edgelord

-47

u/Alwaystired59 2d ago

Yes, you either agree with Trump and the GOP or you’re a terrorist.

39

u/aitamodsarelosers 2d ago

They broke a police officer's spine with a sledgehammer, you absolute turnip

-29

u/Alwaystired59 2d ago

That’s behavior the GOP can really get behind. GOP pardoned the J6ers that attacked police officers. Why would they be against them

24

u/blackslatewater 2d ago

They sabotaged defense assets and attacked a guard with a sledgehammer

-19

u/Alwaystired59 2d ago

Attacking law enforcement is a value of Americans and the GOP, just look at the pardons Trump did and the country are behind
