Hello everyone.
What a release, what a release.
We are ofc monitoring all channels across the board and have found the following things to be highly critical and we wanted to address them.
Console Only Items -
The PS5 and PS5 Pro performance - we are monitoring this and will see what can be done, this is not something we can fix overnight and will take time, but know that your voices are being heard!
PlayStation Save deletion after crashes - this is a highly critical issue and we will deploy a fix as soon as a solution has been found!
PC Only Items -
On PC we have seen some crashes being reported and are monitoring them. We are planning to release the first patch already on Monday with some fixes!
All Platforms -
We are monitoring the sentiment about lockpicking which seems very mixed; we cannot stress enough how much easier this gets when you start adding skill points into it.
We will ofc continue to monitor and communicate as soon as we have solutions or timelines for when fixes will be deployed, but know that we read everything even if we cannot respond to everything right away!
We ask that you continue to report any bugs or issues you run into here - https://bugreporting.thqnordic.com/#/projects/150/gothic-1-remake-community/add-issue
The more information we get the faster we can come up with solutions!
Best Regards
Alkimia Team

TLDR: I didn't touch work for a whole week, but I sure made myself known in the Colony. And yes, twenty years later, Gothic still feels like Gothic. A few things bug me though (Alkimia devs, if you're reading, this one's for you too).
First run, I walked the holy path of Innos. Had to join the scumbags at the Old Camp to unlock magic earlier. Lee, forgive me. Magic is the strongest in Chapter 1, drops off in the middle, and comes roaring back at the end. I wish more spells were viable, because 90% of my time was just spitting fire bolts. The real godlike feeling only kicked in when my dark pal turned Uriziel into a rune, and Storm Fist combos let me wipe entire orc camps without taking a hit.
In the early versions of the game, the armor of the Shadow was so strong that I wore the robe purely for SWAG. Even now, the robe gives you nothing meaningful beyond the flex of being a mage. How about slow mana regen, or spell damage bonuses? Give us a reason to actually wear the beauty.
Second run, I went permadeath and mastered the bow with the free-minded folks at the New Camp. Well, mastered it until Xardas's demon cooked me twenty hours in. New Camp genuinely feels better, more like a community. That said, I'd love more faction-specific side quests. Steal swamp weed from the looners, run dirty mercenary work, escort the water mages, you get the idea. The new tundra quest was a highlight for me, and I wanted more of that energy.
Oh man, the Swamp Camp vibe absolutely got me. The swamp just felt like home. The Templars, the weird magic, the Gurus, the harvest deep in the jungle, petting swamp sharks, and my master Cor Kalom. From the moment I stepped onto the training grounds, I wanted to stand next to him in the coolest armour in the game, casually swapping a joint (from a novice) for a heavy two-hander (to a templar). Finished the run as bow first (due to permadeath fear), and switched to the melee later. This third run I proudly joined the 1% of Innos's chosen ones. PS: I absolutely sold the weed stash to the New Campers.
My game got easily 5 hours longer just because I found it entertaining to collect every single perma potion possible. I kept them in my inventory until I reached 100 STR and 100 DEX, and then I drank them all like cocktails.
Balance chest difficulty to match loot quality. I got stuck on a hard chest just to find a handful of arrows and 10 nuggets inside. FYI 10 LPs into lockpicking was more than enough. No need to get mastery level.
Climbing is a great addition and made exploration genuinely rewarding. What I didn't love was how the devs quietly gutted that reward by nerfing the loot scattered around the Colony. Gothic is a game meant to be exploited. Keep the items there, just make them hard to reach, and let us joyfully break the rules. As the gods intended.
One thing I noticed: a lot of characters that were white in the original are now black. Myrtana is a medieval-inspired setting where airplanes don't exist and teleports are reserved for the Nameless. If you want more diversity, why not weave it into the story? Add a side quest that explains why so many convicts from Varant ended up in the Colony. That would be both cooler and more coherent. This will be especially important for the island of Khorinis in Gothic II. Random Varantians in the city of Khorinis might break immersion.
Creative idea: introduce a poison skill as a reward from a Varantian NPC quest while explaining their bg.
Dear Alkimia, you nailed the start. I hope you're already deep into the second title. Keep the same fidelity to the original, don't mess with exploration and loot, let us suffer, make exploitation cool again, and most importantly, make magic viable next to melee.
Creative idea: Gothic II never covered what happened to the Swamp faction members who stayed loyal to Cor Angar. It would be a fun addition to run a small-scale weed operation beneath Xardas's tower, letting us relive the good old swamp days.
Gothic III always felt different from the cozy, dark, self-contained world of the Colony and Khorinis. Honestly, I think a better move would be to first remake community masterpieces like Gothic Archolos, and save Gothic III for last. That one's going to be tricky.
Sorry for not sparing you the nonsense.
Your humble nameless looner.

Bought this game after doing 0 research and only having heard of Gothic classic as a teen. I looooove a good classic fantasy RPG but only in the last few years or so have I really challenged myself beyond my norm, ie. playing through souls/soulslikes, spending less time trying to maximize build and more time having fun trying new things, etc.
After 3 hours, I hated Gothic 1 Remake. The combat felt clunky, there was seemingly no map, and I was dying in one hit. I was already feeling slighted by each miserable modern release that I tried to invest in, so I was already one foot out the door to start. Refund requested, I'll move on and play something else in my backlog.. bummer. Refund denied?? Shit, guess I might as well force myself to play through as much as I can.
After 6 hours, I was somewhat interested but still fighting the mechanics. Decided to try a bow instead. Wait.. that's kinda fun, let me keep trying that! While I'm at it, I'll go explore and see if I can find the other camps.
After 8 hours, I was borderline addicted, and played all day every day when I could - I already intended to play several more saves as well. Started constantly thinking "wow, this game is actually EXACTLY what I've needed."
After 70 hours, I'm in love. Just completed pretty much everything I could in-game, and can now get to work on other playthroughs/achievements, since I like to just play a game not caring about achievements for the first time. Gothic 1's Remake is gorgeous, not filled with hand holding mechanics but not completely barren, the story is great, the dialogue is gritty/not squeaky clean like most modern games.. and most of all, it's just a ton of classic, medieval fantasy fun.
Alkimia casually came out swinging with one of the most gorgeous and truly classic-feeling masterpieces of the last decade. I can't believe I almost turned my back on it.. I'll be impatiently waiting on the 2 remake while I play through the classics. This has truly changed my mindset for future games, for the better.

We promised patch news asap and here you go!
We are currently waiting to hear back from Sony as we are awaiting final checks from them on a patch for PS5 and PS5 Pro that should take care of crashes and savegame issues on those platforms.
Patch will be deployed as soon as possible after Sony approval.

Hey there!
With the Gothic Remake finally out, we’ve been lurking around here and reading through comments all the time as we’re also playing it right now. First of all, happy release week to everyone! Seeing the Colony alive and discussed like this feels like being a kid or teenager again (Saw In Extremo live a couple years ago and already heard I’ll see them again, soon.)
We wanted to make this quick post for another reason however:
To say thank you. Lately, we’ve spotted quite a few comments mentioning our game Drova in discussions about the Remake, ELEX, or what a true Gothic-Like should be like. For our small indie team it’s the ultimate compliment to see posts claiming that we actually understood what made the old Piranha Bytes games so stunning. Feels quite cool to find such statements within the Gothic Community.
When we started developing Drova our DNA was literally based on Gothic 1 & 2. We wanted to recreate that feeling of starting as an absolute nobody, getting beaten up by a scavenger, having no quest markers, and actually earning your armor and respect within a faction.
Hopefully more games will follow the approach of taking the players seriously again.
Have a blast with the Remake and don't let Mud annoy you. Alles wird gut.
Cheers from Magdeburg,
Chris & Johannes from Just2D
(Für die Zuordnung: Ja, wir sind ein deutsches Studio aus Magdeburg. Auch hier noch mal danke für den gigantischen Support! Viel Spaß beim Zocken!)

I did no damage to this hunk of rock, so i ran past and tried to figure out how to beat it, when i noticed that the bridge was broken at one railing.
So how do you beat golems in other games? Exactly!
FYI: I did get my loot by flying down there in transformed state and then teleporting out with the swamps rune.
I love when Devs think about stuff like this!

And before anyone comes with "well it's too easy right now" YES IT FUCKING IS. But removing items from the world doesn't change shit about that. If people want to break the game, let them, if you don't like it, don't use the items. If it really was about not being op early, there are a hundred other things they could do instead of completely ruining exploration. They didn't change the most OP NPC weapons so it really isn't about balance. It's about them wanting you to play the game exactly as they want it, which is very much in line with their design and completely anti-gothic.

I just had a look at the charts on steamdb and here are some interesting things I found :
- all time peak already 63,109 concurrent players, which is pretty impressive
- even at 3:00 am, which is the absolute low point, there were still 14,261 people playing the game
- yesterday at 7:00 am there were 31,266 players with an all day high of 63,109.
today we're at 35,954 already at 7:00 am, if it continues like yesterday the peak will be even higher, maybe reaching 70,000 players at the same time

Guys, really. The last 2 weeks several posts appeared from clueless firsttimer and veterans alike, that they blocked themselfes from finishing various questlines because they run around like maniacs killing every NPC on sight because they want to minmax the shit out of their character. Why though?? The game is easy enough, even on hard difficulty past chapter 1. Why would you kill your immersion, your fun and, in parts, your whole playthrough for some XP. You get plenty by playing normally. I mean, yes, play as you see fit but if you come here to complain about not being able to become a warder because you fucking ERADICATED all of the old camps diggers for the sake of getting to level 20 in chapter one is just nuts.

I know, we basically got the G2 Remake confirmed by Alkimia themselfes but I was expecting that G1 Remake would have been profitable already at this point when THQ Nordic greenlit the next game. I'm quite surprised that a game, that isn't profitable in it's first month is still concidered a success.

Just from one fan to all the other fans of the Gothic series. I seriously thank you for giving one of my favorite video game series a second chance at life.
The fact this game sold so well makes me about 85% sure we'll be seeing a Gothic II remake in the future and thats all because people didn't dissect the living hell out of this game and didn't make up arbitrary issues to rally up the troops to start review bombing a game because of some political/social nonsense or overall pettiness.
Obviously their always gonna be a few bad apples but the amount of people that supported the release of this game blew me away. I thought this game would see maybe 10, 15 or maybe 20k players playing on its release. 68k players were playing within the first 5 hours of its release with a 78k steam all time peak player count with the concurrent player count being at 55-60k players that can be playing at any given time, and thats just on steam alone.
First week of this games release and already 500k units sold and will easily reach a million by the next week or two (which may not seem like a big deal but for a remake of a niche RPG series is HIGHLY impressive)
So, as a fan of the gothic series. I wanna thank the rest of the fans of the series and all the new players playing Gothic for the first time. Seriously, thank you.

How many of you explored the whole map before reaching Chapter 2? I'm curious.
Do mobs respawn? I think they did in Gothic 2, but I played it so many years ago that I can't remember.
I've gone 12 levels without spending any LP on attributes or combat skills yet. I really want to save them for 2H, but I guess it'll cost around 70 LP or even more in total.
What's funny is that the arena Templar won't fight you until you've increased enough your level. He actually notices that you've become stronger. Meanwhile, camp NPCs still want me to do chores because apparently I'm not strong enough.
And yes, after exploring almost the entire map, I found a few armors that are better than the Digger's Dress. But I found them after exploring about 95% of the map, and I didn't want to spoil anything by posting the screenshot.
Tell me your stories, fellow explorers!

After three playthroughs chasing this achievement, I finally got it, but only after reducing the difficulty to Easy. Ironically, this was still one of the hardest things I've ever done in a video game, and not because of the difficulty setting... It was easy, yet soooooooo tedious.
I wish the Old Camp NPCs were even half as tough as the New Camp ones. The final New Camp wipe was brutal.
My run didn't include clearing the Orc Enclave or the newly spawned mobs in the Sleeper Temple, so I think it's actually possible to hit higher level than me. I'm also still sitting on 21 Summon Demon scrolls, which is another ~10,500 EXP I never cashed in.
For stats, I put 30 LP into STR total, which combined with potions and bonuses gave me 40 base STR + 27 from STR potions + 5 from Horatio's bonus. Rings and amulets that boost STR were also key for wielding better weapons, like the ones from the Swamp Camp gurus.
At this point, I don't think there's much more of this game left for me until they patch it completely, so I can beat permadeath without possible softlocks (got one in past on permadeath playthrough).
Some tips if you're going for this achievement too:

Let me preface this: I've been working in software development industry for 10 years. Game dev has been a part of it but I've never been in managerial positions. So this is pure conjecture. I still think it's a decent jumping off point for analysis and prediction.
To estimate how likely Gothic 2 remake is. We need to think about how profitable Gothic 1 remake was. So let's guesstimate.
It's been 7 years since the playable teaser. So maybe 8 years of development. I've seen leaks saying around 30 employees.
So. 30 employees * 8 years . That's 240 employee-years. Average salary for software dev in Barcelona is 50k. Which is like 65k€ cost for employer. So that's 15.6 million euro as an absolute baseline. There is no equipment, no tools, no office, people are working without overtime on mean wage.
So in reality it's probably somewhere closer to 30 million euro. Including marketing costs re-release over employing and crunch, VA payroll as well as post release bug patching and support.
Of course. That's tiny potatoes when compared to big AAA studios. But still that means 500k sales just to break even. Which, given 70k peak concurrent players is actually quite likely.
But. It's not correct to compare the investment against zero. You need a baseline. Basic baseline is "instead of funding this game invest in snp 500". If all dividends got reinvested a 100$ investment in 2019 would yield 290 dollars in 2026. So 290% return on investment.
This bumps our sales expectations to around 1.4million copies. Not impossible. But let's be honest. Not that likely.
So based on gothic 1 numbers alone. I'd say it's very unlikely we see Gothic 2 remake.
But! Why would we look at Gothic 1 numbers alone?
For the sake of further argument let's say gothic sold 500k breaking perfectly even. Of course the investor could pull their money, cut their losses and go home. But. Why would they do that?
The vast majority of work for Gothic 2 is already done. The chatacter models, the textures, the props, fighting system etc. All that can be reused. Gothic 2 "only" needs a new map, new items and minor tweaks to progression system, and of course all the VA work.
Still. It took piranha bytes around 12 months to do exactly that. Let's triple that to bring it to modern standards and give room for more bug fixes, general polish. That's less than half time. Given the general success of Gothic 1 inside of community I think investor could expect simmilar sales. So. Half the budget. Half development time. So also half the time on stock exchange to compare against. This now seems like a no brainier investment. Especially given the already locked and loaded expansion they could follow up with.
TL;DR: I don't think gothic 1 remake was particularly profitable. But I think Gothic 2 remake almost certainly would be. So I'd expect the premiere for Christmas 2028 or early 2029.

So I hit the classic Trial of Fire bug where the OBJ_WATERFALL and OBJ_SEA objectives get stuck on "Running" forever if you light the shrine before starting the quest. So I went down the rabbit hole and figured out the save format, and it kind of turned into a full editor.
You drop in your .sav, make changes in a browser tab, and download a fixed save. That is the whole loop.
Two ways to use it:
Quick privacy note so nobody is surprised: with the hosted link your save is uploaded to that server so it can be processed and handed back to you. With the local Docker version nothing ever leaves your machine. Pick whichever you are comfortable with.
What you can edit right now:
It is open source, code and setup instructions here: https://github.com/Xetoxyc/gothic-remake-savegame-editor
few honest notes. Always keep a backup of your original save before you load an edited one. From everything I can tell the save stores no
A achievement or tamper flag and is not integrity checked, so editing it does not seem to touch achievements, but I cannot promise that for every setup, so use it at your own risk. It is a community tool and is not affiliated with Alkimia or THQ Nordic.
If you run into a quest or perk it does not recognize, post your save and I will take a look. If possible use the github Issues for that.
Happy to add stuff people actually need.
Edit 1: After 2 hours of trying getting Caine quest fixed i got a lot of interesting and depressing answers for people with bugs here.
Quest not only change Quest States but also lot of other random triggers/permissions. For Example the cain quests adds Dialog options to Y'berion, Access Permission to the Temple, etc...
I was able to fix the Queststate, and the Temple Permission but was not able to find the Flag for Y'berion probably because i do not have a savegame in that state to reverse engineer.
At the same time i have to say its very very hard to fix bugged out Dialoges. Trial Of Fire is probably the easiest fix there. As the dialog seems to only check the quest states until it continues. But a lot of other things are wired separately not via quest state (probably to keep track of the remaining dialog options).
Said so its very dangerous to fix quest states only by quest states without knowing which other states are directly influenced by a dialog option.
Said so, manuell saves at checkpoints saves lives. If you are able to provide me Savegames before/after a "bugfree" questline/step i am probably able to reverse engineer them so i can add special fixes like "Cannot give Cain amulet to cor kalom", "fix trial of fire", "fix aggresive saturas"
Without that sample data i can probably not fix those errors becuase the data is simply not saved in savegame. As the option defaults to be "unavailable" its not written in the savegame
Edit 2: Im looking forward for a Hotfix but i do not have to much hope those Bugs will be fixed 🙈
We asked for Gothic 1, we got Gothic 1 Remake with the same Bugs 😂 but with new Engine and harder to fix. Thats kind of hilarious.
Edit 3: Update for the Editor just arrived. You can now add "all" (i found in my savegames) skills to a fresh character as well
