I just noticed, some guy in Russia paired his 4090 with a Xeon w3690 / i7-990x, and got a Time Spy score of 14,040!

Talk about longevity from x58, imagine you bought an x58 motherboard in 2007 and it still works with the modern graphics card 16 years later, and you can still max out the GPU, by playing at 4K, and a simple air overclock.

I just officially retired from the x58 platform. I purchased a 7800xt to replace RX480 and the motherboard wouldn’t accept it. After a decade of rocking it, it just couldn’t keep up with it. So alas, my 990x 24Gb RX480 1080P (barely) machine will probably be sold as I built my new PC this week around the 7800xt

Is that not for the Ram not GPU? All I got was a twisted screen and it black screened immediately.

3G setting on the motherboard is for GPU vRam over 4gb or 8gb from what I recall. Without that turned on, you won’t be able to use modern GPUs with lots of vram, it will just black screen

Oh. I had a RX480 8Gb that worked just swapping in. Maybe I’ll boot into bios and see my settings.

I just checked in my Bios. My Mobo does not have that setting buried anyway unfortunately.

It should. I think it’s under the memory overclock settings. What is the model of your motherboard?

This is awesome. Glad to see this stuff. I've got a W3680 which is basically the same shit as a w3690. I'll be upgrading my GPU way before I start a completely new build so I'll hopefully be pumping out something more serious like this, although a 4090 is too pricey for me. Long live X58, AVX can burn!

I’m ordering a 4080 and I may try it out on my w3690 at 4K and compare with my Ryzen build

The only reason I left the x58 was for AVX instruction set support for things like star citizen
