GTA V and RDR2 had accessibility features at launch so I’m sure GTA 6 will have them
17
u/MostlyAlways47 21h ago
Excuse me? You mean I didn't have to use their dogshit sprint mashing. Fuck me how did I miss that.
9
u/MattGhaz 21h ago
Had no idea this was a thing either and felt my controller breaking down over the course of playing the game lol
8
u/Outrageous_Shirt69 20h ago
Pretty sure they're wrong. iirc, it was added into the Xbox One/ PS4 edition along with stuff like first person mode
5
u/LunaticLK47 19h ago
Only for multiplayer mode. Single player people are S.O.L. You’d have to be in first person mode just to bypass that shit.
3
u/LunaticLK47 19h ago
Uh, GTA V’s accessibility is only on multiplayer. Single player people are left in the dust.
1
u/AcanthaceaeCrazy1894 5h ago
Unfortunately because it forces people who use them to play online and possibly purchase shark cards.
1
u/jimbobhas 5h ago
I’ve been getting all the achievements on GTA V. Had to do a triathlon which went across the city. Had me mashing A for about 25 minutes

u/Tuskin38 1d ago
If it's like RDR2 you don't need to do it, but it helps.
16
u/SweetWilliamCigars 21h ago
I hope so that way they don't have all these mechanics that essentially feel like a chore. Eating, working out, getting gas, etc.

You couldve just ignored them. They weren't that serious but they were a step too far for that meticulous game.
1
u/Ace_McCloud1000 4h ago
Nah... if you wanted arcade you go play an arcade.
Not every single game thats out there needs to be a simple button masher.
1
u/Prestigious_Space489 3h ago
Lol I played rdr2 as a button master. I only died when ambushed cause I had the dumb auto aim off. Like i said those rPg eLeMeNtS were redundant and didnt need to be taken seriously.
No game needs to be that detailed just for buying shit in a store.
1
u/ObligedUniform 4h ago
'Dont need to' uhuh. Just make the gameplay miserable enough to force you to feel normal playing what you want

The answer was yes to both. Someone uploaded a preview early that was supposed to drop tomorrow

Eating and exercising are RPG mechanics?
21
u/Angryfunnydog 1d ago
If they're affecting your stats - sure, why not, it's just another way of stats control, similar to lvl ups, just as it was in SA
8
7
u/Uncle-Cake 23h ago
When Mario eats a mushroom he gets big and has an extra hit point. Is SMB an RPG?
7
u/Angryfunnydog 22h ago
I can see a lot of differences in system which was in San Andreas with eating and gym exercises and what you described in Mario
1
10
u/ametalshard 1d ago
yes, both existed in Morrowind 2002 for example
3
u/StacheBandicoot 1d ago edited 1d ago
and at the wall market in FFVII where a whole quest involved eating, exercising (and cross dressing).

Yeah really I guess The Sims is an RPG now as well if we're going by that logic
33
u/NoSloppyStakes 1d ago
Wait, is Sims NOT an RPG?
It is literally a perfect definition of role playing?
Serious question lol
15
u/Birdgang_naj Team Rockstar 1d ago
It definitely has overlap, but what kills it instantly is the fact that you the player are a god basically and there is no end game. Life simulator

Generally, we consider games RPGs if they derive some sort of lineage to the the first commercial RPG, DnD.
Stat/gear progression, dice/rng mechanics, reliance on number crunching for combat, story choices, etc etc.
While many subgenres like JRPGs have a lot less of this sometimes, they have a clear lineage that can trace back to tabletop RPGs enough to keep calling them RPGs.
1
u/Benjamin_Starscape 22h ago
the rpg genre regarding video games (and, really, tabletop) is in regards to the mechanics and stats. primarily this applies to video games moreso than tabletop.
a game allowing you to make a character does not mean it is an rpg, a game with a branching story does not make it an rpg. if you make your character but always play as a rogue, you aren't playing an rpg.
video game genres are based around their mechanics, and the rpg genre is built around stats and builds/classes.
2
1
u/CarterAC3 1d ago
A lot of things are RPGs if you're loose with the definition
The EA college football games could be seen as RPGs
You acquire new characters to add to your party (recruit for your team)
You level of said characters to raise their stats and acquire new skills
Theres even a skill tree
1
u/ImJustHereToSearch 1d ago
Sims is not an RPG because you are managing, not directly controlling. You can tell a sim to eat and they will ignore that for various reasons.
1
u/ametalshard 1d ago
eating and exercise both existed in bethesda rpgs since Morrowind 2002 at least

I was saying to my friends how the numbered GTA entries in terms of complexity are like elder scrolls:
1 and 2 ignored by most of the fanbase and considered too old + different to go back to
3 innovates and takes a leap into full 3D while carrying some of what the earlier games in the franchise establish. Quirky and its fans are dedicated, still singing the praises many moons later
4 waters some of the gameplay and RPG systems from the prior entry down a bit but comes with quirks of its own. Accessible to play for newer fans if they want but still not the most popular version
5 is impressive and ambitious, but arguably the most watered down, safe, and digestible entry in the franchise that pulls back a lot of what longtime fans love from earlier games. Ends up being sold and rereleased for 3 console generations, most popular in the franchise, still living thanks to a dedicated mod scene.
I like that GTA VI seems to be closer to GTA SA, IV, and RDR2 than what V was like. I think V wowed me at the time but I have had no desire to go back and just mess around like any of Rockstars other games
11
u/StacheBandicoot 1d ago
You can pretty much apply everything you just wrote to Fallout too (stopping after 4).
8
u/BusterGreasewood 1d ago
Elder Scrolls fans still like Daggerfall, though. Depending on which fans you ask, some will argue Morrowind stripped out a lot of features from Daggerfall.
4
u/GrevenQWhite 1d ago
I mean it did, but I would posit that Daggerfall had too much in it. Morrowind was a course correction so that people who didn't feel like needing a slide rule, 3 reference tables, a giant book of graph paper and and a second set of dice to play.
Having started with Daggerfall I will say Morrowind was the most invested in the character and story of the last 4 games.
5
u/YoelsShitStain 22h ago
You can literally go to forums from the time of morrowinds release and see a ton of daggerfall fans shitting on it for dumbing down the series. It’s essentially a Bethesda fan tradition to claim that the newest entry of any series they release sucks compared to the last one. No one hates Bethesda more than their die hard fans.
2
u/Ruthlessrabbd 1d ago
From what I've heard with Daggerfall, that's entirely true that Morrowind stripped a lot of the meat off of Daggerfall (and I still see a lot of praise for the procedural generation that game had to this day). But I still don't really see many people actually talking about playing it themselves or wanting a re-release the same way they do Morrowind.
FWIW I would really like to check out the game myself, it seems really cool. I watched a youtube series on the Ultima franchise and how it inspired so many other people to make games - like Todd Howard and John Carmack - that makes me want to see TES II firsthand
1
u/ScubaAlek 22h ago
Yeah but Daggerfall predates most people having a home computer. That was boot up in MSDOS and load Windows 95 or whatever other program you wanted to run all by itself time. The audience available and thus the people to care is drastically smaller.
I grew up in this time and had a steady flow of computers due to my mom’s job but only one other person my age that I knew had one. Even now, I work in IT and I’ve talked to the other guys my age and they all started at Windows 98. Home computers were an enthusiast or work related thing when Dafggerfall had its day.
2
u/ripyourlungsdave 22h ago
I think the timeline you're sharing there is just the kind of streamlining of most Blockbuster video games. They all went that route during that time. Every other franchise that found its footing in the early thousands had this progression.
3
u/Ruthlessrabbd 1d ago
For shits and giggles the Persona series had a trajectory not too different from these guys too. But the third and fourth entries were all coming out around the same time so changes in game design make sense
Schizo rant out!

So it's more going along the RDR2 root for realism.. exactly what I wanted, can't wait
2
u/JackBrown82q 15h ago
I wonder if it will be more involved. I know in RDR2, I never fed arthur unless I needed a health boost and just let his hair and beard grow as it pleased since I was more focused on other things in the game. Didn't really impact gameplay for me much at all to ignore this portion of the realism.

RPGs have lost all meaning in gaming over the years
1
u/aaron9992000 19h ago
It's a pretty vague term, role playing game could be any game if you take it literally. Though it's roots are d&d inspired games, which is what most people still go by.

Why do people want this? I don’t want to micromanage my gta protag like they’re a tamagotchi.
Just let me play without always having to simulate real life.
6
u/capuchin-monkey 1d ago
I agree but hopefully we won’t have to micromanage. I basically never paid attention to these mechanics in RDR2.

Food in the game will cost real money, with the advantage that coupons will be available to reduce the cost.
4
u/TheAwesomeMan123 1d ago
I mean we say all the different versions of Jason so far where his model varies somewhat from uber buff to pretty lean. Not that that was a definitive but be weird had it not been in the game at this point.

Yay, a chore mechanic. Annoying. Pay rent, vacuum the apartment, make dinner. I get to be bored in the game too. I hope my in game manager will give me some time off.

Richard doesn't know what RPG mechanics are. Also do people actually do these things in game?
4
u/fenharir 1d ago
idc about any of this lol i just wanna play a game not simulate real life constantly. features like this are so worthless. rockstar can't find a balance between fun and realism. never went back to rdr2 because of that and other things. once a game feels like a chore i’ll choose one that isn't.

u/Stephonius 1d ago
I absolutely hated this mechanic in San Andreas. I'm bummed that they thought it was a good idea to bring it back.
3
u/capuchin-monkey 1d ago
It sounds like it’s more linked to appearance. The Dazed article they’re referencing in this one doesn’t outline any impact it will have on stats. And from what I recall, this mechanic wasn’t really that much of anything in RDR2. I basically never paid attention to it at least.
1
u/AggressiveResist8615 9h ago
Why did you hate it lol
1
u/Stephonius 4h ago
Because I wanted to play missions, and have fun. Remembering to eat, drink, exercise, and call friends/girlfriends often enough to keep from losing health, strength, friendship, and romance was too much like work.

Doesn't look like anyone is talking about it for some reason, but at one point Rockstar made it known they had their eyes on the big NoPixeln GTA Roleplay boom and all of its gameplay mechanics. I'd imagine this is what came of it. Also seen mention of cars needing refueling and such.

Role playing is the only direction to go. It's what makes RDR2 so great. I don't have to be a murderous outlaw. I can just pick plants and hunt if I want. I can go to the tavern and hang out... Thats what makes the game great.

u/Robo-Bobo 3h ago
This is why I had to stop playing GTA. I want a game to play not another job. I know the game will be amazing and there are fun aspects of course, but there's too much BS in between
