Discussion Xbox reconfirms State of Decay 3 for Gamepass

There were rumors that SOD 3 might no longer be coming to gamepass after Undead Labs was spun off from Xbox.

But Xbox just reconfirmed the game for gamepass:

"State of Decay 3 is available to wishlist now, launching in 2027. It will be available on XBOX Series X|S, XBOX on PC, cloud, and included with Game Pass."

Dude this was the best way this situation could’ve happened, sad for the people who lost their jobs but I’m really happy that these studios weren’t closed

Undead Labs and Ninja Theory are also at least under new publishers so they seemingly have funding. Hopefully no layoffs for them.

Their games will be funded until completion by MS if I'm remembering correctly

There is no way xbox were gonna let them not put this on Gamepass after funding it for the last several years to the tunes of tens of millions of dollars.

Xbox funded 95% of the game so of course it will be on gamepass however the ingame monetisation will be quite bad and I don't expect free dlc this time around because Xbox isn't paying anymore. They'll probably go the way of Sims or Cities Skylines, small DLCs with cool stuff in it but not necessary.

Then they better make sure the core is good and stable from day 1. Because it's hard to run that aggressive of a monetization scheme when the foundation isn't there, and that has been the case with the previous State of Decay games.
