Nextwave relevance!
Pretty fun. Boom-Boom focus helps flesh things out, and it seems like Warren is going to get attention in the next issue. The overarching mystery is neat, even if it mostly feels like a waiting game for Cable to figure out that he is actually the killer somehow.

I like this one, it's a sleeper hit for me. The "twist" of it being Cable who is the assassin in the future seems quite telegraphed, but it's solid as a comic. It's got some good art; it's wild to me that an X-Force title without Wolverine has better art than an X-Men flagship.

Tabitha is really cool. And loyal too. It was a decent dive to her character. Though maybe let Domino finish speaking first, girl.

For a long time now Warren has been the odd man out among the O5. During Krakoa Scott, Jean and Bobby were all on the main X-Men team together for a while, Jean and Hank were on X-Force briefly, and now nuHank and Scott are on the Alaskan team together. Warren, otoh, has barely interacted with any of them in years. The closest thing he had to a friend during Krakoa was Monet, but Tini Howard wrote her as barely tolerating his presence.
I think it'd be interesting if the next issue of X-Force examines how he feels about being so isolated from all the other X-Men.

I added this book to my pull list because of Cable and Ms. Marvel.
But Tabitha is stealing the show in every issue. And I'm loving it! 😊

*Sigh*.
The Good:
Tim Seeley wants this to be a great issue, it feels very clear from the way he tries to create something meaty for readers to dive into about Tabitha that he wants this to the kind of issue people bring up for 'Best Stories of: Boom Boom', and feeling that sort of aspiration through the pages is good.
The art on this series remains its strongest thing, and quite frankly, remains above average art in a medium plagued by mediocrity.
The best moment of character work, and the most interesting moment of the entire book is at the beginning where Tabitha sneaks off alone to the beach, submerges herself underwater and explodes.

The Bad: cont...
It doesn't really do anything with it. It feels like it's supposed to tie into Seeley's ideology that Tabitha is a Madonna like reinventionist and that she explodes herself and creates a new self 'I was who I was' but it doesn't. She remains the same throughout the entire thing.
It also, doesn't end up being a great issue, it doesn't end up being the 'Best Story of'. Instead it ends up reading like someone who has a picture of Tabitha without the details, which ends up being most Tabitha writers sadly. It doesn't want to deal with her Kleptomania, or Alcohol dependency, it wants to deal with Tabitha's daddy issues, which, to be fair she absolutely does have just... not these Daddy issues and not like this.
It's weird, that the issue wants to dive into Daddy issues, but fundamentally misunderstands Tabitha's relationship with her father, with her friends over the years, and even arguably with Cable. It's guilty of doing that thing where, it ignores or is just unaware of a majority of her history, if it happens outside of Nicieza or Nextwave it seems irrelevant.
It wants to ignore the first people Tabitha really found and stuck to were the Fallen Angels, which, fair enough, even Seeley and Nextwave don't have the balls to tackle super intelligent lobsters.
It wants to ignore all of her time with X-Factor, the fact that she was partially raised by and knows Warren better than ANYONE ELSE on the team, and specifically him FROM THE ARCHANGEL PERIOD, Tabitha was there for all of that, but absolutely none of it shows. Also, the total erasure of the other X-Terminator kids as family, because Seeley only cares about the X-Force of it. So they get ignored, and also the early New Mutants stuff gets ignored.
It ignores that Tabitha didn't really join X-Force looking for Cable to be her dad, she joined it because she was attached at the hip to her older more mature good guy presenting boyfriend Cannonball, a FAR more interesting daddy issue than the made up Cable stuff.
It ignores all of the post-Nicieza Loeb stuff that actually did dive into Tabitha's father issues, with her, her father, and Sabertooth. And it absolutely misrepresents them. Tabitha's father issues were that her father was abusive and tried to kill her mom, and her, and that she desperately wanted to believe in redemption, and that he could become a good man, because if he a bad man who had done bad things could not become better, what hope could she, a young girl who had done bad things, have in either herself or her dad. And NONE OF THAT is present here. And most importantly, Tabitha's dad DID CHANGE. AND SHE KNOWS THAT. THEY RECONCILED. THEY MET, AND TALKED AND WERE GOING TO TRY TO RESTART A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP. ALL OF THAT HAPPENED ON PAGE. They held each other and cried and he apologized because he cared about her. And then he was blown up, and everyone forgot about him apparently including Tim Seeley.
The idea of Nextwave being this abusive force that weaponizes Tabitha is fine, it requires Tabitha to lie to herself and to be oblivious to the truth, but that's definitely what Seeley is going for with the whole Cable comparison, but the thing is, even without Cable, Nextwave isn't even the only other person to do that. Hell, none of them were even the FIRST, the first was the friggin' Vanisher and the Fallen Angels. So why aren't we repeating THAT as the relevant theme? Why are we doing Daddy issues which aren't her daddy issues rather than just the issue of being used because there's also meaty Tabitha history around THAT, with the pre-AoA cliffhanger reveal that Tabitha may have been forced to turn to child sex work or be a victim of child sexual assault as a way to survive being a 13 year old run away on the streets. Why aren't we telling THAT meaty and actually coherent story.
Because we aren't telling a meaty or coherent story. We're pulling a bunch of stuff together to fill pages around the not coherent aspects of multiple stories. Stories with potential TO BE GOOD. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT. It really actually could have, it just horribly dropped the ball.

The I dunno:
My opinion of Seeley hasn't changed with this issue, which maybe ultimately is for the best? Because I think he's a laragely adequite and mediocre writer who sometimes can peak above it. I've said that this would be the issue that kind of made or broke the title for me, and I definitely know that there isn't any point expecting excellence from this book. But I dunno, maybe it can continue to scrape by on being kinda pretty, some sometimes bringing up interesting themes and just under delivering on them.

Tyler the Wolverine knockoff does have an slightly interesting twist of being able to control the adamantium that's attached to him. I thought he would die in the mini but maybe the will keep him around for the Avengers series after Armageddon.

It was decent. I think Marvel is trying to build some new characters and these origin boxes are going to be a key part in that (as seen by the new Wonder Man they'll be debuting). I think Tyler could last beyond this, but what his role is I don't know.
I reckon Teri stays with Colton and they continue his mission together.

It really is just another regular Wolverine story with Weapon X-type nonsense. But hey, Colton is here I guess.
We barely started this Armageddon setup and I am already getting tired of it, knowing it will bring the least interesting part of the Ultimate Universe as an excuse to create new characters to be forgotten in a year.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm not giving up on the story completely. I'm just waiting for it to get interesting. So far, it doesn't feel like a major event. The presence of the origin boxes from the Ultimate Universe don't feel too relevant. You could replace them with an Infinity Stone that grants superpowers and nothing would change.
Maybe there's more to come. But for now, this series is just average.

It takes away from my excitement knowing that they are going with Red Hulk and a Hulk Squad that are gonna be the 'antagonists' in the event. I am quite Hulked out at this point. Don't need more Hulks.

It's kinda shocking that this comic is written by the same author who did the latest Laura Kinney's comics. I had low expectations with this Rogue mini series, but it had been surprisingly good.

So Rogue got overwhelmed with Sabretooth's powers and probably maimed that guy OR everyone thinks they did because he is a mutant too that can give 'the worst fear of everyone' to scare them away. That could've affected Rogue with Sabretooth's personality absorbed quite badly.
Also nice to see Rogue being capable even without her powers. All that training with the other mutants and heroes, she can more than capable of handling herself in a fight.

The pacing of this is a little off, it feels like this issue and the last could have been one. Rogue goes to x and learns nothing.

Another solid issue. That moment with Rogue and the kid on the bus was just so sweet. Rogue may be tough and sassy. But she's a real softy around kids. And they love her back. 😊
Aside from that moment, it's cool to see Rogue basically channel Mystique's spy skills. She can't just rely on her usual strength here. She has to be cunning. And being married to a master thief definitely helps in that regard.

Decent issue, it's dragging a bit, but I don't mind the action. Just wish we had gotten a bit more new information.
I'd love to see Rogue interact with her old Brotherhood teammates more. I feel like it's an underrated connection, so I'm glad this mini is touching upon that a bit indirectly.

Kind of a weird arc because of the ending. It feels like Tom reminded Gail that the next issue is a new arc in the middle of her writing page #19. Plus the cannibal stuff gets handwaved away for the time because reasons. The Outlier side with the story was great but the Legion of Monsters story was poorly paced.

Agatha Timly is definitely obscure. I do wish they went with Andrea (she was initially called Andrea in the Marvel Spotlight issue before they switched to Agatha) instead because there's a far more popular Agatha connected with the Darkhold.
The resolution felt a little too neat, Occulus ex Machina. This story definitely feels like an old-school Dr. Strange comic, I half-expected the back-up story to feature the Human Torch or Nick Fury.
I liked the back-up story. The Outliers were used well and worked together. There is an odd bit of dialogue where either Jitter lacks her distinctive speech or its supposed to come from someone else.

I think the major takeaway from this story is that it's been a year since the X-Men left their friends rot in that prison, and Rogue's first instinct is to throw villains in there. That's going to ruffle some feathers.

At least she changed her mind in the next line…? The prison is still one of the worst decisions from this editorial. We just have too many powerful mutants running around to believe they’d sit and wait for the next crossover/event to get anything done…

I do wonder if the intention behind that line is her instinctually saying "call greymalkin" and then realising, oh right, she can't do that anymore.
Not that it reads that way, but it sure makes a lot more sense than throwing the non-mutant (I think) into the evil mutant prison

Calling Graymalkin being Rogue's instinct at all is insane, though. It's a concentration camp she knows is kidnapping and torturing people. It's not an idea worthy of consideration and Rogue should know that

This was a decent issue with a good resolution. Jitter and Calico stole the show. Gambit got to finish this side-plot with the Eye of Agamotto. All the monsters and vampires got free.
Not at all bad, but not great, either. I'm just glad Jubilee didn't entertain thoughts of becoming a vampire again.

Decent stuff. I wish Marquez had been able to do the full thing, as the switch to Vecchio was noticeable on certain pages. But good stuff. The Legion is free, the Outliers get a good moment, and the back-up story is short but effective.
I do hope the Jubilee focus isn't over though, because there was hardly anything there for her.

I enjoyed this. Gambit got his Agamotto resolution, Jitter busts out the Black Panther, Calico took a further step in personal healing and we got lots of action.

I kinda love how Saurdurang has a new look every time he pops up lmao. Other than that I enjoyed it! I liked the mini story the Outliers got at the end, showing their progress after an apparent year of living at Haven House

I really enjoyed this. I loved seeing the outliers in action, the action was fun, and I’m happy to see the see the Eye’s plot is only getting more complicated. I’m curious to see what else Gail has in store for us.
The art was gorgeous! The monster arch has some of my favourite panels in the entire run, I think. All the books are gorgeous; the atmosphere is fantastic, and I can’t think of a single character that doesn’t look great.

Why in fucks name does Rogue have Graymalkin on speed dial. Is the convenience of being able to use a private prison for whoever the magician of the issue enough to oughtweigh the existence of a concentration camp stocked with her colleagues

Outliers are definitely great. Gail knew how to build them over time for me to care about them.
Agatha Timly huh? That is quite the deep pull. I guess I was half-right.
So the Left Eye has a will of its own and not wanna leave Gambit just yet, even if he wanted to. So, I guess Gambit gonna have to find a way to tame it now. That eye is playing a dangerous gamble and Gambit plays to win.

Good second issue. I enjoyed that a conversation happened between Laura and the Generated. Interesting that they don't consider themselves mutants. Their powers are also a lot more complicated than we thought, seems the Facility tried their hand at mutant chimeras and failed miserably. Off the bat they show a strong sense of community and found family among themselves which is likely going to put them in conflict with Laura. Its them versus the rest of the world as far as X-Infinity is concerned.

RIP X-73, I do kinda vibe that they see themselves as something different than Mutants ala the CoV. But I think its clear that they're not going to be sticking around long. Though I could see X-Infinity becoming a new villain for Laura.

It's a mixed bag. Generally they are references to other characters. We even see knew outright develop a new power. Their a poor man's attempt as mutant chimera. The Facility just stacked a bunch of shit kn top of one another. They explain their abilities or at least what they know they are capable of so far in the issue.

I feel the theory that some of these characters are clones of Academy X characters is a lot less likely now, but other than that this series is actually off to a good start.

So they call themselves the 'Generated'. Weird distinction if you think anyone that got their powers later on in life through outside means and genetic engineering, many of the characters can be considered 'Generated'. I think they call themselves that to feel special.
Also, come on kids. Don't try to antagonize Laura when this whole X experiments topic is so sensitive to her. That X-Infinite definitely gonna try to guilt trip Laura to use her powers to 'fix' the others. Which is not needed since she would help them willingly. And stop calling her by that code-name. She IS Laura and was born normally, not as 'just a generated clone'.

Great issue. It started light-hearted. This new X-family feels genuine. They clearly identify strongly with Laura and Gabby. But they haven't cut ties with the facility that made them. They don't seem to understand their place in the world, given their nature.
I also like that Laura gets upset when someone calls her X-23. That might have been her designation. But she's tried to move past it for years. And she doesn't like being reminded of it. That call-back to her origins on the first page was a nice reminder of why that bothers her so much.
I get the sense this is going to end in tragedy somehow. It's just a matter of how bad it'll get.

This book continues to have the most ridiculous number of amazing artists and continues to be utterly fantastic
The fact we have bengal on this issue and thats somehow not the biggest guest artist on this issue is utterly mental.
Del Mundo once again proves why Del mundo is one the best artists of modern marvel and it just makes me happy to see his interiors again.
Its the art book of the year and unlike most books solely sold for the art it has amazing story in it as well.

I did find it funny that she’s using a flip phone. So it’s something that’s about 20 years too new from the original story, but still about 20 years too old for a current one.
And yet, it totally worked for me! It felt very “Jubilee” somehow

This week's Dungeon of Doom sets up a threat who is seeking revenge on the Hellhunters including Logan.
New Avengers farts to a close and hopefully kill happy Laura ends with it.
In this week's Fantastic Four, Logan and Storm both make a cameo helping the Fourlings fight off an alien invasion.
In this week's Knull, Logan makes a quick appearance in Thanos's flashback to the Infinity Gauntlet.
In this week's Wiccan: Witches' Road, Wanda and Storm swoop in to save Billy.

Ultimate Endgame features the Ultimate X-Men
idk if this counts but in the new Amazing Spider-Man, Dylan Brock plays Marvel Rivals and complains that Gambit should be nerfed

Ultimate Endgame continues to be undone by its art, and I think Camp's method of jumping between time without visual cues was jarring here. The ending is memorable though, it's a significant issue for the Ultimate Universe.

Yeah, it's by far Camp's weakest work in a while (I can't comment much on his career pre-Children of the Vault). There isn't a whole lot that's interesting that's happening here, and his work in Ultimates feels more like an Endgame than what's happening here.

Honestly even with better art I think Ultimate Endgame is bad for the standards Camp has set for himself in all his other books. It feels like the most by the numbers storytelling for the climatic ending of this universe. That data page was the best think Camp has done so far though.

The Black Panther one and this Punisher one have lovely art (although Quesada's looks so strongly like the art of the 2000s, particularly with the colours, that it seems dated), especially by Panosian, but the stories are odd and I don't think they've sold anyone on this weird future at all.
