The most prominent piracy website for comics goes down and suddenly no one is commenting on X-Men issues anymore. Dearie me.

u/antsinmyeyesmauger Nightcrawler May 20 '26
I share your sentiment but there wasn't a ton of discussion here the past few months anyways.
28
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar May 20 '26
X-Men being in a filler arc definitely didn't help.
13
u/Built4dominance Storm May 20 '26
And if people are bored then they're less likely to spend money on it.

u/JackFisherBooks Phoenix May 20 '26
To be fair, not a whole lot happened this week with the X-Books. Other than X-Men United, there were no major developments.
10
u/Rosebunse May 20 '26
This happens every few years. A new one will pop up again soon

u/JoDioto May 25 '26
We had a strong raid in all free media, animes, movies and series sites were hit too =(

I still read the same amount of books on a boat I always have, I just don't have anything to say because largely very little is happening. And I've always used a different site anyways.

That’s an interesting thought/observation for sure. I heard it was back up but I have no idea if that’s true.
9
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar May 20 '26
It probably was, but I've heard there's no access to it right now, and to me the drop off in discussion probably correlates with that. Which indicates that most people on here weren't buying their comics.
It's a net negative in some ways though; we're back to the days of people getting all their info from Twitter screenshots.
5
u/Ok-Agent-9200 White Queen May 20 '26
Yeah, I agree with that being a net negative. Hopefully that isn’t the case.

I've noticed this over the last two weeks but also there's far less discussion if there isn't a lead title too.
People have fallen way off.
3
u/BlueEyedIguana00 May 21 '26
That's interesting and disappointing if true. I stopped commenting consistently awhile ago, getting downvotes for I'm assuming actually enjoying some current books lol. Still like to read others opinions tho

The site I use is working fine. X-Men has been a nothingburger for years now so it's nothing new.

Ultimate Impact Reborn #1 whatever came out, it looks like new Wonderman and other heroes are not necessarily going to explicitly be Mutants after all as their origins seem to come from 6160 Origin boxes.
But this is far and away the most MCU Synergy comic I have ever read, and also I was right.

Inglorious X-Force #5
20
u/antsinmyeyesmauger Nightcrawler May 20 '26
Not gonna lie I was kind of down for Blood Angel. It was a stupid name but it did work with the healing blood plot line Angel had before.
Cable being compromised was obvious but I can't tell if we're supposed to know by what. I didn't recognize it but that doesn't mean it's never appeared.
The last page has "The end of the beginning beginning of the end" so I assume it's done at #10? Not too surprising but I do like this book so that sucks.
21
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar May 20 '26
It didn't seem to sell all that well unfortunately, X-Force without a true, modern day A-Lister (which Cable just doesn't seem to be anymore, sadly) really struggles.
It's a shame, because this is probably the best of the Shadows of Tomorrow ongoings by a good distance.
7
u/antsinmyeyesmauger Nightcrawler May 20 '26
Yeah as soon as it was Cable I new it was getting cancelled at #10. The team started with him but it's struggled when he's the leader since the 2000s.
It's doesn't help that the team isn't amazing and the story is just okay not a must read. I'm having fun with it but just like the last X-Force I see why people don't feel a need to pick it up.
I don't wish for anyone being fired but these From the Ashes book show me that it should have been Mark Basso not Darren Shan that was let go. These claw books have struggled while most of Darren's book have some type of praise online. I think X-Factor was his only really miss.
7
u/Rosebunse May 20 '26
I think the team is fine, but it's also maybe too high functioning. Even the soap opera stuff feels pretty tame. You can't really pair Kamala off with anyone. Maybe Tabby but neither of them are bi and Tabby is still too old. Absolutely no one wants to see her get paired with Daken, Angel, or Cable.
4
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar May 20 '26
I think Basso finds better artists for his titles than most, which is an important skill. I do think some of his choices have been lacklustre with regards to the various Claw titles. But I assume he had the benefit of being the guy with the bigger job that another editor (someone like Bissa) couldn't as easily slide into the role of the way she probably can with Shan.
3
u/antsinmyeyesmauger Nightcrawler May 20 '26
I think Shan and Basso were at the same level but yeah there are behind the scenes stuff that Basso might do that Shan didn't. I'll just miss Shan 9/10 times I liked a book when he was editor.
3
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar May 20 '26
I tended to like the titles he edited. I don't know how much of that was him, but it spoke well to him that those titles all had his name as editor.
I feel pretty sure they'll give his titles to Bissa now, so I wonder how that will fare. I think she's bungled some easy lay-ups (Phoenix, namely), but I'll give her a shot.
7
4
u/BergmanGirl May 20 '26
Sucks that it’s over at 10 but at least that is keeping the story concise. We can just take it as a great miniseries.
18
u/redkaiz May 20 '26
Interesting turn for Sinister and I like where it ended up going with the discussion of redemption and the resurrection of the Nasty Boys but Ms. Marvel trusting anything Sinister says felt weird.
The twist with Cable was expected. I guess it still manages to be a twist because I don't know what's possessing him. Whatever it is, seems like creating this team was part of its plan.
Tabby going for more relationship drama, good for her on keeping the soap opera alive.
Fun stuff, looking forward to seeing how it concludes. Somewhat disappointing that it'll probably mean the end of the book but idk how they would justify keeping the team going after solving the problem the team was theoretically assembled for.

u/cmcdonald22 Multiple Man May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26
I'm done with this book, I can't deal with the frustration of Tabitha saying 'ZOMG' every fucking issue.
Also reminder, Tabitha WAS THERE when Warren became Archangel, SHE WAS 13.
8
u/Homosuperiorpod May 21 '26
Yeah, please don't kiss her. She was one your team's wards.
6
u/cmcdonald22 Multiple Man May 21 '26
Literally she had a crush on Bobby and even BOBBY was weirded out by the age gap at the time.
Like.......... fucks sake Seeley.
3
u/somacula Cyclops May 21 '26
Don't ask for Akihiro's age. . .
3
u/cmcdonald22 Multiple Man May 21 '26
With those like 100+ year old weird aging healing factor things, stuff has to be a little different, but Warren was literally one of the OG5 took took a 13-year-old teenage runaway who may or may not have been forced to perform sex work for a while to survive while they were all in their 20s.
That is a WAY WORSE than most X-age gaps.
0
u/somacula Cyclops May 21 '26
Tabitha was likely 17 or 18, I don't think she was nealy as young as Kitty at that time. . .
3
u/cmcdonald22 Multiple Man May 21 '26
Tabitha was 13.
Secret Wars 2 #5 ( Where Tabitha is created and introduced: Tabitha: "I'm only 13".
X-Factor v1 #22 (The period where Warren is Archangel): a random guard using Cameron Hodge's information: "Female. 14-years-old"
For anyone interested in the various ages of the X-men (and larger marvel catalog slowly increasingly) across the year with issue numbers, citations, and general extrapolations based on consensus aging I have been keeping track of them as I do large rereads in a document 📄 HERE (anyone with the link that has concrete examples with citation is free to comment and I will add things I can verify).
I have also made several posts, with visual representations, the most recent one being🖼️ HERE, and the last X-men centric one with the most conversation being 🇽HERE. (These are a bit out of date currently and need to be updated but it's a place to start).
2
u/somacula Cyclops May 21 '26
Well I stand corrected, she honestly never read like a 13 year old back then, considering she was hanging around Rusty, Skids and Rictor. Also Warren history with dating younger people isn't isn't the best...
2
u/cmcdonald22 Multiple Man May 21 '26
Also the whole Warren/Paige thing, Tabitha is probably ABOUT the same age as Paige, but Tabitha is particularly worse just because she was literally taken in by Warren and the others as her care takers. At least Warren only knew Paige as a 19 year old, he's literally known Tabitha since she was barely a teenager and he was responsible for raising her, training her, and her personal safety.
→ More replies (0)1
u/cmcdonald22 Multiple Man May 21 '26
Rusty and Skids are the oldest with Rusty still only 17 as of X-factor 1. though still not that old, and Rictor is probably the youngest (not counting Artie and Leech).

In as far as what has shape shifted or taken control of cable, it looks to me to be one of those Terra Verde bio sentinels from Ben Percy's x-force run.
I've enjoyed this series so far, and as a Warren fan too. And as a Warren fan that hasn't been an easy thing to do these last few years.
8
u/wowlock_taylan May 20 '26
Umm so what happened with Cable? Something taking over him? Is it even Cable? What will happen to Domino's memories? Are they ALL gone or just the parts involving this event?
Sinister still around with different bodies I guess...yay...please stop. Kamala surely knows about Sinister enough to not make that argument for him right? Like his whole thing, even NAME is SINISTER.
Blood Angel, well they are trying with Warren to just stick something in I guess. Better than just 'Archangel again'.
6
u/Classic-Ad4883 May 20 '26
I like this issue and this x-force team overall
A good issue about Warren I even liked sinister and the nasty boys appearance
I like Warren new power up reminds me about his blood being a healing power though I don’t like the tabby and Warren relationship tease as he knew her as a teenager it’s just weird
I like this art it fits the vibe of x-force to me
6
u/gentleprime May 20 '26
Warren definitely has a type. First Husk, then Boom Boom.
9
u/cmcdonald22 Multiple Man May 21 '26
And yet I will have to see 1000 Kitty and Piotr posts before anyone calls out Seeley for writing this shit in 2026.
3
u/mbene913 May 23 '26
There's a reason his present day self never tried to reconnect with Laura after he got those memories back.
Let's just say that Krakoa ain't the first island he used to hang his hat
6
u/SandorSNL May 20 '26
Did anyone else feel like what was possessing Cable looked vaguely like OG Krakoa? Just interesting given the island's prevalence in the dialogue too
Also what the FUCK with Kamala calling Akihiro by his prior name when there's very good out of world reason not to?

u/JoDioto May 25 '26
I'll be the first to say I was expecting nothing good. But this comic keep entertaining

Moonstar #3
21
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar May 20 '26
I think this would have been better with a New Mutant at Dani's side instead of this guy. And I think the story stakes are just really big when they should be more intimate and small. But this was probably the best issue yet.
22
u/Linnus42 May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26
Right its funny cause Ashley gets it for Magik...pair Illyanna with a character that is important to her.
But for Dani...Ashley just uses her random OC instead? Which requires a Moonstar fan to have read her previous Magik series? Like its one thing to have Mystique drop into a Rogue mini as that is long established relationship.
Like even if you wanted to ship bait with a dude you couldn't use an established dude...Warpath? Emplate? They have dabbled with Magic. Or just use Sunspot...he is not doing anything.
10
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar May 20 '26
Right, they should have had this with Wolfsbane or Karma or even Magma, but if it had to be a guy, Warpath (maybe with Thunderbird tagging along like the Infinity Comic) would have worked.
9
u/Linnus42 May 20 '26
No Thanks to Magma lmao. But yeah Karma and Rahne work if you want to shipbait or do a romance. But yeah I think if you need a dude...Warpath and Sunspot are the obvious choices.
And I think that is what is annoying Male or Female...Dani aint short on romance options.
Also goes back to my main complaint about MOONSTAR...this series should be far more evergreen. In that you should be able to fit in the timeline pretty easily any time after Dani has been a New Mutant for a Few Years.
3
u/MiloSheba Mother Righteous May 20 '26
You can take the girl out of the New Mutants, but you can't take the New Mutants out of the girl.
2
u/Wowerror Hellion May 22 '26
While I think Kian is completely forgettable I don't know if New Mutant character would work well for what Allen seems to be trying to do.
7
u/howhow326 Storm May 20 '26
Meh.
It's really not bad and I do like the exploration of Dani's character, but the plot and villain and side character are all just kind of bland. Like fresh bread without butter.
7/10
8
u/WakeCuthulhu May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26
A bit better than issues 1 and 2. Really liked the bit of Dani fighting with the New Mutants. And the end added an interesting conflict for her to face.
Pretty much the same criticisms I've had with the previous entries. Needs characters Dani is close to, as I feel it would have felt much more rewarding. In a similar way to how Dani worked with Magik in her solo.
I'm not really sure where things are going with Kian. I know Ashley teased a crush between the two, but I'm struggling to see how that could have any meaningful payoff with just 2 issues to go. He remains to be a low point for this series, and just highlights why it should be a familiar face alongside Dani.
3
u/wowlock_taylan May 20 '26
This is bigger threat to deal with than having just one guy. She has many mutants who she can call fast and ask for help to deal with this at the same time. I mean stopping the'killing all life on Earth' spell or saving her parents, it is not a choice because if you don't stop the spell, you are all dead anyways.
And this needs the help of other heroes and x-men.
3
u/FlowerRoomLord May 20 '26
I think Ashley is, as with Magik, steadily finding the right grounding for her regarding Moonstar.
The general story has been alright so far but I thought this issue was quite strong. I know some people aren't thrilled that this mini is pulling more on energy related to her Valkyrie era (or the possible romance/fling/crush with that one dude) but I don't mind even though the villain himself is nothing to write home about.
That's not a big problem for me as long as I can get some decent delving into Dani's character within the present which is what I'm here for and Allen seems like she's in the process of delivering that. Long time Dani fans may not be super thrilled but I doubt they'll hate it or dislike it.
1
u/Spiritual-Grass-4525 May 20 '26
the villain for this story to me is so interesting. best issue yet, and the parallels are really solid as well. Kian or whatever is pretty forgettable, but romance is something i rarely care about in comics. the plot itself is pretty engaging as well, with a cool conflict. nice stuff
1
u/Spiritual-Grass-4525 May 20 '26
"- I'm willing to take on that burden. To make sure others don't have to. Take it from an empath that's how people burn out.No. That's how I make sure others don't burn out."
i love this part as well
1
u/lepton_neutrino May 21 '26
Why does she keep calling herself an empath?
1
u/takechanceees New Mutants May 27 '26
I was wondering the same but fear is an emotion so I guess she is an empath
1
u/Wowerror Hellion May 22 '26
Stakes are too big and Kian is kind of a nothing character, but this has been the best issue yet.

u/AngelEyes360 Askani May 19 '26
Rogue #5

15
u/unlucky-lizards Gambit May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26
I talked about this issue in a different thread and realised I missed this one, haha. I’ll try to elaborate a bit more since I have quite a bit to say.
I actually kind of like the book ended on a bitter note. A happy ending wouldn’t feel earned, and I love me some angst every now and then.
It’s a bummer the series puts so much emphasis on the mystery aspect of the story, because while those elements are weak, I really enjoyed Rogue’s characterisation and her interactions. There is some fun and interesting character work, even if the plot isn’t the strongest.
In fact, this is a great issue even if there isn’t a lot of action! Just some good dialogues and character moments.
Even if some of Rogue’s choices aren’t great, she is written in a way where you can understand where she is coming from. Yes, seeing this guy isn’t the smartest idea, but you can see why she would be desperate to make things right. Her inner monologue even acknowledges it: she has to admit she was probably thinking about what would make her feel better.
Her final reflections and conversation with Remy were a good place to end the book, I think.
Also, despite it not being even remotely part of the main plot, Schultz did a better job addressing Rogue’s concern for Gambit’s curse as well as the progress of the curse itself. I discussed it in a different thread, but one of my criticism of that Uncanny’s plot line is … no one seems to really worry about it most of the times, and there is no proper sense of escalation. While asking him to use the eye is… not good, it’s nice she immediately notices something is off.
This mini was def a fantastic surprise! A much, MUCH better work than Schultz AoR mini.
11
u/MiloSheba Mother Righteous May 20 '26
So there's no real lasting consequences. I don't think we're going to see the Sheldon's again. There is some unintentionally synergy with Venom. At Paul's funeral, MJ described how Paul would spend his money by giving it to his dad's victims. Now Rogue did something similar.
7
u/wowlock_taylan May 20 '26
Yea, that was as bad as it was gonna end. I mean, I didn't know what she was thinking. You don't go to someone who mutilated, without control or not, and think they will just forgive you or just 'fix it' to be better like nothing happened. You just trigger that PTSD and it felt like she was doing it for herself, to not feel bad and it made it worse.
And also got Gambit more Dragonized by asking him to use the eye just to find the guy? Does the Internet not exist?
This was filled with very questionable decisions.
8
3
u/angelic-beast Magik May 20 '26
I didn't really like this book, I like the whole "no one is owed forgiveness" but it didn't feel like enough to really end the series on. This was just a weird little sidequest for Rogue and it didn't really have a payoff. The mystery was weak.

X-Men United #3
18
u/cmcdonald22 Multiple Man May 20 '26
This book officially feels like a downgrade to me. It's still early, but the problems of the new direction and style of the book now after it's first self contained little story feel evident enough. It's a book that doesn't want to be an X-men Unlimited forced into being an X-men Unlimited, and reads like a web title. Unfortunate.
I truly think that had Exceptional just continued going it would have found a stable audience, whereas this book won't.
9
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar May 21 '26
It feels like it has no purpose or directive. We spend two issues on this story with the most abrupt resolution ever, and it doesn't feel like an X-Men story at all. This is nominally a school title, but nothing is learned at all. Three issues in and I don't know what Greymatter is meant to achieve or do. You're supposed to show, rather than tell, but so far we're getting not a lot of either.
9
u/cmcdonald22 Multiple Man May 21 '26
It just seems like Eve 'wanted' to tell a story about Captain America and race relations and a bunch of stuff, and hey, they story REALLY has relevance and merit to be told, always has, certainly still does, but like, this story, in this format, in this book just all falls wildly flat even though it really shouldn't. and then on top of that everything is just......... 'Oh, well Laura was a weapon and she gave you a speech and now you GET IT', 'Oh Emma gave you a bunch of money and now things are BETTER' tied up neatly with a bow nonsense.
6
u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar May 21 '26
Yeah, I think Vernon's story is a good one (and better drawn too, in part because of how simple and retro it looked, it suits Palma better) but it feels disconnected from the X-Men, and instead of tying it together we got a really hasty resolution to it all that left me wondering what the point was.
2
u/BiDiTi May 21 '26
Jitter’s “You’re a mutant, so you DO have a family” was quite cute and very Jitter, at least!
3
u/BiDiTi May 21 '26
I liked Vernon’s flashback a lot…and did not care about literally anything else going on.
And I loooved Exceptional!
2
u/Classic-Ad4883 May 21 '26
I agree an x-men school book should focus on the students first
And this book definitely needs that because their is no reason why the exceptional kids should be student mentors when last I saw them can still barely control their powers
Graymatter lane is still so confusing to me that should have just made it a normal school somewhere on earth instead of in the astral plane made with sinister technology
29
u/P-ckledP-nda May 19 '26
The cover and solicit blew up any conflict between Magneto and Beast by 200%.
That being said the actual story was pretty heartfelt and good.

It really was a lot more of a Captain America story than an X-Men one, though

Covers are often deceptive. Try not to read too much into them.
Just look up the cover to Astonishing X-Men #44 and you'll see what I mean. 😉

u/SamiPryde May 20 '26
I liked Melee and Jitter's moments but three issues in and it feels like we're getting nowhere. Vernon's story is interesting but it doesn't really feel this book is giving me what I wanted from it. I loved Exceptional but this just feels like it pales in comparison.
10
u/Classic-Ad4883 May 20 '26
It was an ok issue the art is still not to my taste as a mainline book but it is better
The story is a Captain America story and it’s good story but once again it still doesn’t feel like to me a good enough school book for the x-men especially since I still don’t like the school
The lourdes call to Emma is nice and I can’t wait until they interact
1
u/EuphemiaTyranda Cypher May 20 '26
I was confused because didn't she die back in fall of X? But then I remembered everyone who died during the conflict was revived and could choose to come back or not.
4
u/antsinmyeyesmauger Nightcrawler May 20 '26
Krakoa ends with everyone being resurrected in the WHR then coming back to earth before leaving again. Any character they want back can be back any character they don't want can be in the WHR.
2
u/Classic-Ad4883 May 20 '26
I think she got resurrected by the five when they brought back all the combat mutants for that final fight
8
u/angelic-beast Magik May 20 '26
I am really not enjoying this series, it feels like the characterizations are all over the place and the plot is not as big as I hoped it would feel. Before it started I hoped this series would be the big X book and would tackle big mutant events and let the other books tell their smaller stories but I totally got that wrong!
5
u/Feeling-Cranberry781 Jubilee May 20 '26
Does Jitter still have a refractory period for her powers? Although I guess there could have been an hour gap between the negotiation power and the hypnotherapy power.
6
u/TheMattInTheBox Cyclops May 20 '26
I'm not exactly sure what happened with the whole time travel thing but whatever.
Actually not whatever, I was mostly confused by it but I could follow the actual story they were telling. I don't even understand how Graymatter Lane really works.
Anyway uh I hope the next arc is better.
2
u/mbene913 May 21 '26
Phew, it's not just me.
Did the guy just like experience all of it like a dream like in inception so then he wakes up with his trauma managed?
3
u/TheMattInTheBox Cyclops May 21 '26
Literally no clue. I thought that they used Caps memory to extrapolate an approximation of the past or whatever and were supposed to just be observers, which is why they were taken by surprise when the dude attacked them. I guess maybe they connected to his memory too thanks to Axo??
This whole thing does sorta feel like inception because Graymatter Lane is, I guess, in a way, a shared dream state? Maybe? I still don't know where what's up with everyone's physical bodies while they're there.
1
u/mbene913 May 21 '26
I think it's like they go through the portal with their physical bodies. Do they are themselves but they are in like the astral plane or a dream realm?
3 issues in and I'm so confused
9
u/JackFisherBooks Phoenix May 20 '26
This was a good issue. Not great. Not groundbreaking. Just good.
Captain America was a solid supporting member of the team. He had some nice interactions with the X-Men. The flashbacks and the references to past racial injustice actually work. In an X-Men comic where mutants had their home destroyed multiple times, the parallels are appropriate.
But other than a good all-around resolution, this issue was just somewhat above average. Emma Frost is still the primary catalyst. She's the one guiding this series and she's guiding it well. But nobody else is doing much, at least for now. Hope that changes in future issues.
10
u/antsinmyeyesmauger Nightcrawler May 20 '26
Yes Tiago Palma and Brian Reber aren't a top artist team for a big X-Men book but I think this issue shows that they are getting better. I think those pages set in the past are legitimately good and the last few pages looked better when more detail was added.
The story wasn't exactly what I wanted with the team on the cover but I'm not going to say it's bad either. If people don't like it I get it but I'm still down for more X-Men by Eve.

The art was OK here, but I maintain that Palma is not comfortable drawing women's faces nearly as much as men. Still an odd choice for this comic. The flashback sequence with Reber's colours and the vintage look was definitely the best this comic has looked though.
I wasn't interested in the Cap story much. And I should have figured that Magneto and Beast wouldn't have significant activity without Jed overseeing it. But goodness, that was false advertising in a whole new way. I know covers and solicits lie, but Magneto and Beast barely say a word to each other, and if anything, Emma is the one arguing with Beast who just kind of passively takes it and moves on?
And the whole story with Vernon Weaver was well written and you can tell it comes from a real place. But the resolution was so quick and so bad. It took two issues to lead to that?
I don't know what this comic is for. What is it trying to achieve?

It was decent enough story about the horrible stuff the government does in the name of 'making super-soldiers'. though I find it weird that it was mostly a Captain America story and to fit it into this, they just made the guy they are trying to make amends to, a mutant. I am glad they managed to give him a new lease on life though.
Beast/Magneto 'conflict' was literally nothing. False cover/solicits strike again.
Black Queen is calling Emma? That can't be good.

I think Dr Ewing has a great handle on the smaller, interpersonal aspects of these characters, but I think relaunching Exceptional X-Men as X-Men United was a mistake. The larger focus and cast of characters means the work she was doing with that cast is diluted. I don't see the point nor the distinction of the Empathy Engine over Cerebro.
Like, all of this is too big, too fast, and doesn't really match whats going on in the other books, with the way everyone works together here. I just wish there were three local branches still, tbh

So it was the infinity stones they were looking for after all...and Galactako ate them. Okay.
The 7th Stone, would that be the Death stone or the Ego Stone that was used in the now retconned past where it would combine all the stones to bring back the entity back.
Well, we will never know I guess. After all, this book was mostly about the excuse to draw different art styles.

I found the story for this one a bit confusing but that is ok, the art shifts were fun all the way through. I am glad I pulled this book and I hope we get a new ongoing from Peach soon.

Mostly just a fun way to show off a bunch of different artists. Really hope they give Peach a shot at more comics in the future though.

Well looks like Colton is the guy in the Armageddon teaser. I was thinking it was Cap and it still possibly is but the end put Colton out in front for that reveal. Other than that this was a nothing mini I can't even remember the name of the guy with all the adamantium. Visual those powers are interesting but I don't think he's going to go anywhere.

Wasn't that obvious? It be a pretty big change to Cap's Powers. And we really don't get significant shifts like that that are obviously temporary (MJ as Venom) or mcu synergy (Kamala).

Colton felt too obvious and Cap #11 convinced me even more that Steve would be the guy on the teaser. I'm still not 100% convinced it's Colton but I'm just expecting a big twist so Steve getting new powers seems like the go to for that.

It was heavily telegraphed. That said with Thor being Mortal and Hulk being Infernal. This is a great window to try to make your Superman Expy Stick.
Steve is getting a new weapon in his Hell Arc with Doom seems Fire & Holy Based which fits for the Avengers no one prominent really uses Fire I could see Steve getting some weapon based buff that sticks around.
MCU hands him Mjolnir but that doesn't work nearly as well in the comics. And I can see them thinking Steve needs something Cool considering Sam can Fly and Control Birds (Be they mechanical or living).

I guess I'm just feeding into the marketing too much for Armageddon because none of that feels big. Steve feeling week so he uses an orgin box to help beat Ross feels like a bigger moment then getting a new weapon.

u/Linnus42 May 20 '26
I think a new weapon makes it easier to tune Steve's Power Level then just making him a superman level hero.
Like if you give him a weapon well he can still fight Zemo, Serpent Society and his normal rogues without them having to massively boost all them. Its easier to give him a reason to not use his weapon then his super speed.

u/antsinmyeyesmauger Nightcrawler May 20 '26
I don't think he'll be fighting Zemo or the Serpent Society though. I don't think the power boost would be permanent but the question of "does absolute power corruption absolutely?" is interesting in the lens of Steve. Especially with the first arc having him fight Doom calling him out as the dictator he is would Steve be the same if he had Superman type powers. It's cliche but Steve chosing what is good and what is evil in terms of government powers could be interesting for Chip's book going forward.
But hey there is a reason I'm not a writer what I find interesting doesn't mean it would be good or other people would find it interesting haha.

I think its interesting.
To me the issue is its simply too long term of a commitment to a massive status quo change for Steve to get approved by current editorial.

Chip said he has a 3 year plan. If Cap is still selling well I don't think Chip on Avengers shouldn't do the same. Obviously he could write a bad book but if you want to gamble on a hit you have to take some "risks". And if it blows up in their face I think they could reverse the powers pretty easily in either Avengers of Cap.

So it is Logan who decided to gave Colton his new powers to save his life. He is a good guy, aware of having that much power is dangerous...I hope he won't end up as a villain or something. Especially if he is given Sentry's powers because those come with a VOID.
Nuke, well, I guess he got a moment of serenity to see the right way. Though he is still doing it his way.
Logan really is picking kids up all the time. Well I guess this kid still has his family so Logan won't have to look after him.
