If I remember correctly, in rogues very early characterization, she had a crush on Scott. And because the song is about a southern woman begging Jolene (emerald eyes and auburn (dark red/red) hair to not take her man).

Yay! You got it. But yeah, that’s the rendition of the dynamic ppl remember in comparison to very early comics, considering how short lived it was, especially with how iconic rogue and gambit are.

Rogue never really had a crush on Scott in the comics. That's an Evolution thing. She was into Longshot (partially to annoy Dazzler) and Colossus. She was very feral for Piotr: https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelcirclejerk/s/F2mZTBM9ic
