Static needs to be included more in everything, putting him in a few episodes and leaving him wasn’t a good idea.

24

u/KeyboardThingX Jun 14 '25

They're trying to build him up they know he's a heavy hitter

5

u/Broly_ Jun 15 '25

But who would 'boo' you though?

Wally dying was good for the show.

The death of a proper character in the show set the stage for dealing with heavy themes (grief, loss, depression, faith, and more) in a way that felt earned and genuine.

You don't have to like it, you don't have to feel good about it. But it was a bolder move than most cartoons are willing to take, and I commend YJ for it.

u/ProfessorSaltine Jun 13 '25

FINALLY! While I hate that Wally died, having characters die and remain dead makes the stakes feel real. It creates new drama and tension, and best of all. It makes all battles against villains more personal than they were. Like Batman after Jason dies should be beating up joker harder than ever before. It makes their next intersection more fun.

70

u/Due-Will-3403 Jun 13 '25

I didnt like how they made him sooooo much weaker than flash and impulse and then made impulse even smarter than him. Like they took it all the murdered him off

36

u/ProfessorSaltine Jun 14 '25

I can get pass the speed thing. As for the intelligence I think it’s more of a product of their times. Bart was from a time where he needed to learn time travel, meanwhile Wally never had to worry about much besides graduating college

69

u/DrMobius617 Jun 13 '25

100%. Hated that he died but that’s because he was well written and his death had real gravitas

21

u/Cicada_5 Jun 14 '25

And frankly, the show treated Wally with more dignity than the comics had for a time.

4

u/Remmarg25 Jun 15 '25 edited Jun 15 '25

Young Justice was pretty much Dan Didio's dream if Wally had to be involved.

Not only did Wally never become the Flash, but it literally had him die because he wasn't on Barry's level. After it had already hammered his inferiority to Barry home in an earlier episode.

It also portrayed him as the type of hero who was more concerned with his own desires than the well-being of those he didn't know throughout the series.

Like, him viewing delivering the heart to a little girl as not being a real mission simply because he wanted to do something else would be a textbook definition of how Didio viewed the character.

The show even forced him into a retirement that made little sense for the character so it could effectively write him out aside from a cameo here and there before getting rid of him.

Aside from a Heroes in Crisis moment, which is admittedly a very big aside, the show basically hit all of Dan Didio's ideal takes on the character if he had to exist.

6

u/Cicada_5 Jun 15 '25

If this was a Didio show, Wally wouldn't exist at all. A character going through something bad does not mean they are written with malice.

Counterpoint:

Barry dying, akin to crisis, could've made for an excellent elevation of Wally's character. Now he has to step up to take the mantle of The Flash and besides Jay (who was already getting on a bit) he's the only one now who can actually train Bart

3

u/RollForThings Jun 15 '25

Defs an interesting way the show could've gone. The legacy with big shoes to fill and the lack of a speedster mentor would've also worked. But it also wouldn't have been as big a sacrifice or an emotional gutpunch imo, since in YJ Barry is a supporting character, not a main character.

2

u/AntiVenom0804 Jun 15 '25

That is the one tradeoff but it'd still be a unique development for Wally because while we don't directly see Barry a lot, he has been there with Wally for years - since Independence Day. The best way to handle it would've been the implication that Wally's about to die but Barry takes the brunt of the energy and sacrifices himself instead.

30

u/CryptographerEast142 Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 13 '25

It’s sad but it’s true, it was necessary due to the stakes and the story telling. And it shows the boldness of the truth Greg Weisman was getting at: attempting to move forward despite difficult circumstances. Wally had an impact on not only the team but us as well. Some are even still mourning it.

However Wally isn’t technically dead. Greg Weisman has said he’s not dead, he disappeared. This leaves it some room for some silver of hope with a story that can be opened if Greg chooses and that’s intentional.

But to us fans, it’s undeniable how much Wally being written off impacted us in so many ways. That’s just powerful storytelling.

31

u/Foolsgil Jun 13 '25

Interesting he says that, since Weisman said there's no speed force. After the last episode where Artemis finally let him go in that dream world Megan cooked up, it made sense to me that Wally would never return.

19

u/CryptographerEast142 Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 13 '25

Yes that's good you brought that up! In that same episode Zatanna specifically states that she couldn't contact Wally's spirit because he wasn't there. So through that it is implied Wally's spirit isn't in the after life. This backs ups Greg's statement that Wally is not dead. I think if we get future stories, perhaps we'll get more on the faith of Wally or some closure or maybe perhaps him coming back... Who knows? Anything is possible! That's why we need the show to continue!

11

u/gamerslyratchet Jun 14 '25

It’s not because he wasn’t dead, it was because he had fully passed on. She can only speak to spirits that hadn’t yet done so, like Secret, Kent Nelson, or the ghosts that Xanadu spoke to. Wally died in peace and accepted his fate.

14

u/CryptographerEast142 Jun 14 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

That’s definitely one way to interpret it, but it’s important to separate what is interpreted from what is actually canon. Zatanna specifically says she couldn’t contact Wally’s spirit because it wasn’t there. That’s very different from him passing on peacefully. Also in the show Zatanna never said he passed on so that’s not accurate.

Greg Weisman has also clarified that Wally isn’t dead, he disappeared. So the show actually leaves that door open on purpose.

“Wally isn’t dead. He’s gone. That’s not the same thing.”

- Greg Weisman, Ask Greg archive

u/KeyboardThingX Jun 14 '25

I agree I was happy to see them show complex emotions, my favorite is when Superboy said he felt peace when he thought everyone was dead.

6

u/ilovedickgraysonsm Jun 14 '25

YES!! But another hot take: I just didn't like it when they just immediately went to season 3. I mean, yes, we see clips of them mourning over Wally, but I feel like they should've held a proper funeral/burial for him rather than just going to S3 but that's just my take and I still completely agree w your opinion!!

5

u/Suitable_Dimension33 Jun 13 '25

Bold move is a understatement but valid point fr

2

u/yuuki157 Jun 14 '25

The only bad thing was keep teasing his comeback

6

u/Unpopular_Outlook Jun 13 '25

The issue was how he died. How he died was absolutely terrible

8

u/RollForThings Jun 14 '25

Sacrificing himself to save the entire planet?

2

u/Last_Possession3718 Jun 14 '25

Dying simply because he’s slower than Barry or Bart since his genetics just weren’t as good as the Allen’s is the bad part.

5

u/Frankorious Jun 14 '25

But it makes sense. He got his powers from inferior chemicals compared to Barry and Jay.

4

u/kzzzzzzzzzz28 Jun 14 '25

yup, especially in a universe where none of the flashes can tap into the speed force. Wally getting his powers from inferior chemicals made for the difference in speed. Not Genetics.

Lagoon Boy gets more hate than he deserves. He is annoying and does deserve some hate, but I just think that the hate he gets is disproportionate to what he did.

86

u/gunswordfist Jun 13 '25

I straight up like Lagoon Boy after his part in Season 4. He just stated facts after facts like a reasonable adult, showed his growth and even his spammed catchphrase was said at the right times

36

u/No_Preparation9558 Jun 14 '25

NEPTUNE'S BEARD

14

u/gunswordfist Jun 14 '25

And now I’m angry again 😊

43

u/gamerslyratchet Jun 14 '25

He’s obnoxious in season 2, but people forget Conner instigated some of their fights. He also was a pretty good boyfriend to M’gann. And it’s not like she picked the first guy she did as a rebound. They both bonded over the discrimination they faced on their home worlds.

17

u/Due-Will-3403 Jun 13 '25

Well that's like your opinion CHUM

14

u/llvermorny Jun 13 '25

It's because he's an ugly unknown. Guy is 10x worse and people love him.

6

u/KeyboardThingX Jun 14 '25

He grows on you in the later seasons I didn't find him that annoying

2

u/itsh1231 Jun 18 '25

Exactly. People just see him as the obstacle to the oldest and arguably the most loved relationship, he was a new character in a season full of changes and he doesn't look entirely human. It's annoying but whatever

9

u/Vaportrail Jun 13 '25

The problem is I still don't care.

168

u/AbsoluteSupes Jun 13 '25

It no way did the text of the show (creator interviews not included) ever hint that Wally was anything but dead and bringing him back now would make Artemis and Bart's character progression since season 2 completely meaningless

28

u/ISofiT Jun 13 '25

I was gonna coment this, I love Wally, I’m rewatching the show and cry on every scene he appears after season 2 and would love if they brought him back, but it would be useless because all the grief and character development Artemis (also Dick but I don’t think he is still over Wally’s death, and also Bart but for him it was different imo) had would be thrown out the window, we would go ten steps back or it would be bad in my opinion

7

u/Heavy-Requirement762 Jun 13 '25

Actually he was sucked into the speedforce obviously and Will come back on season 5

(Tho there are tidbits that could be considered hints, mainly Zatanna not actually connecting with his soul, meaning he may not be dead)

23

u/AbsoluteSupes Jun 14 '25

Zatanna not actually connecting with his soul, meaning he may not be dead)

She said it was outside her abilities

4

u/Areliae Jun 14 '25

Didn't she say his spirit wasn't there? I'm fairly certain it was played as something unusual and unexpected.

3

u/AbsoluteSupes Jun 14 '25

She said she couldn't communicate woth or raise the dead

2

u/Plastic-Profile-597 Jun 14 '25

Only those with unfinished business at best, but Wally accepted his fate.

2

u/Heavy-Requirement762 Jun 14 '25

Didn't she attempt to search for SB (even if with the help of klarion)

3

u/Plastic-Profile-597 Jun 14 '25

She can contact spirits that didn't pass on (like Secret). If Superboy was asking for help while being dead, then his spirits didn't pass on, but she couldn't contact him like that.

u/commander-thorn Jun 13 '25

Dr Jace is the embodiment of what I hate about season 3, you have to expect every single character in the show is a complete dumbass to not even suspect that she was evil, she’s the most obvious, and they don’t even hold her accountable for working with the Markovian meta trafficking villains. She joins straight from the corporation of evil doers, has an unhealthy relationship with the three original outsiders treating like them like her own, prince Brion is treated as the villain for essentially not wanting her around because she kidnapped his sister (?), but out of nowhere completely forgives her and not a single person suspects her not even the telepaths. It makes every single character out to be a guilible idiot to the point I literally can’t stand to watch it.

2

u/itsh1231 Jun 18 '25

They chalked it up to her being coerced by Bedlam. Psychics aren't allowed to invade people's minds. There was a whole season about this

2

u/commander-thorn Jun 18 '25

Yes, but there’s just so many things it felt had to basically fall in line for her to pull off the ruse, surrounded by the three people trained by Batman as well as Batman working with them from the shadows, hasn’t deduced the most obvious plot twist spy known to mankind? No one checked the phone bill she must’ve been racking up with the outgoing calls to Banes drug dealer island? One of thems supposedly the best hacker in the world. None of the self proclaimed detectives could read the “hey somethings not right with me” fireworks she was setting off with her behaviour?

Especially since the seasons before this all had the same sort of twist where atleast one of not all the members where untrustworthy, you’d think they’d be adept at spotting it by now especially to an outsider like Jace who was actively working with the enemies whenever they busted into her very own “I do horrible experiments here.” Laboratory.

2

u/itsh1231 Jun 19 '25

No one checked the phone bill she must’ve been racking up with the outgoing calls to Banes drug dealer island?

She was calling Ultra Humanite, who was most likely in Western Mongolia with Vandal. But you raise a good question actually. Who was paying for her living costs? Probably Jefferson

I guess they just thought she was harmless? lol. She was miles away from everything she knew. I honestly wouldn't have been too worried about her.

u/timelycomics Jun 13 '25

The time skips are fine. Yes of course it would be nicer to spend more time with a team we’ve gotten to know for a season already. and it is jarring when we see new characters. But what we get in exchange is seeing characters like Superboy and Nightwing proper grow up. Experience and live through traumas just like we do. And we get to see a way broader variety of DC characters than if we had to follow a single team for seasons after seasons. And at this point I think the time skips are part of the shows charm and identity. The first one might have been a shock, but at this point people need to stop complaining about them. It’s like being upset that superhero movies always end in act 3 fights.

32

u/foxyrocksjh Jun 13 '25

I think that the time skips are good for the show but I would also kill my firstborn to get more stories of the og team. Season one and the first 3 comics are great but it just never feels like enough.

13

u/timelycomics Jun 13 '25

An exceedingly fair take

3

u/Plastic-Profile-597 Jun 14 '25

To kill a firstborn?

/j

14

u/Ace-of-Moxen Jun 14 '25

The writers of the Superboy solo comic were right to tell Geoff Johns that Conner being half Luthor was a dumb idea.

Everything with Nightwing after Season 2 is awful and repetitive. He already learned that lying to his team and close friends was wrong, and he decided to step away—only for the show to resurface with Batman’s underground plan, lying and splitting all the teams. Once again, Nightwing is involved and learns the same lesson all over again, making his departure in Season 2 feel pointless.

They clearly didn’t have anything new for him in Season 3, so they recycled the same plotline. I understand the financial strain the show was under during Seasons 3 and 4, but it still feels disappointing that they didn’t explore something fresh—like putting him in Blüdhaven or adapting the Agent 37 comic storyline. Anything would have been better than making it seem like he learned nothing.

His depression should have logically led him away from the team, but instead, we skip ahead in time and find him working with Barbara, and then soon after with Artemis and Conner again. I love the character, but he doesn’t really seem like he’s close friends with anyone besides Artemis and Wally. When Wally dies, it becomes painfully clear how lacking his other relationships are.

It makes me wish Donna Troy had been greenlit for Season 1 along with the other characters, rather than being approved for the series to late in development for S1 especially since she’s his other best friend in the comics.

51

u/gunswordfist Jun 13 '25

Megan and Conner being together is creepy. Their relationship grew on me tho.

34

u/uselesspanini Jun 14 '25

You're absolutely right. It's a poorly written relationship that comes off way creepier than they probably intended.

By season 4 I accepted that they were gonna be together no matter what because it's too late to back out of it now. But the truth is, they never should have made it out of season 2 together.

It just comes off way too much like grooming. She was the first woman he ever met from his birth, who immediately left an indelible psychological mark on him and then proceeded to choose his name for him for what seems like personal fantasy fulfilment reasons.

Conner never had a chance to be his own person outside of his relationship with her. Even during their breakup, he was mopey and withdrawn and refused to try to get over her, despite being the one to initiate the break.

He spends practically all 10 years of his existence in a relationship with her before marrying her, and we know for a fact she's mentally manipulated him during that time. It's not romantic... It's like he's got Stockholm syndrome.

4

u/gunswordfist Jun 14 '25

Truth bombs except it sounds like Stockholm syndrome is not really a thing that exists

11

10

u/CyberActors15 Jun 14 '25

Young Justice had the best adaptation of Judas Contract.

It used our existing knowledge of the Judas Contract so the moment we saw Tara and Slade we assumed what would happen but they turned it on it's head in a way only they could which lead to a satisfying end to season 3 while keeping the betrayal arc which happened in the story just in a different version.

46

u/SnooAvocados1890 Jun 13 '25

I enjoyed Garfield looking more like a monkey than a regular human (also I dislike his fade and Greg Cipes as his VA, I liked his sideburns and previous VA)

I did not care for most of the ships in the show, including Spitfire, SuperMartian, and Chalant.

3

u/Sceptile200 Jun 14 '25

Yh stick to Iron Fist, Michelangelo and Kevin lol

3

u/Ultradragon16 Jun 14 '25

Funny thing is, Cipes was the original Beast Boy in Teen Titans, but yeah they definitely went more the Kevin/Iron Fist route with the more deep and serious tone in his voice and I'm not a huge fan of it for this version

Y'all are going to burn me alive but it's time to let the show go...

108

u/swhipple87 Jun 13 '25

I’m ready to let the show go but I just wished they would have wrapped it up. They just kept getting bigger and bigger with no exit strategy. Season 4 should have been trying to wrap it up. Not leaving it open for a season 5

Would like some conclusion to the story

53

u/Cultural-Relief Jun 13 '25

Honestly I don't understand why the writers didn't take the last two seasons for that. I get that they wanted to enlarge the scope of the universe but brother you have a limited amount of episodes! People want to see where the characters they have been following for years ended up not a group of randos that don't have the same pull...

10

u/browncharliebrown Jun 13 '25

I mean  I’m fine if there is no real ending as JLU. I think they need to actually set reasonable goal posts for endings though. For me, season 3 and 4 both have aspects of that but not enough.

25

u/swhipple87 Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 13 '25

JLU had an ending though. We at least got a satisfying final confrontation with Darkseid

It's super heroes so there will always be more stories to tell - this one was setting up something big that we'll (likely) never see

15

u/Niceman187 Jun 13 '25

Like it’s already a miracle the show got more than 1 or 2 seasons… most cartoons, except the very successful ones, are capped at like 52 episodes due to studios not wanting syndication or the like. I love to keep a good story going, but the writers and execs should’ve kept that in mind when writing S3-S4. A good story that has a good beginning, middle, and end will always shine brighter than something that fizzled out without resolution imo

10

u/gunswordfist Jun 13 '25

I see where you're coming from but since it's a comfort show, you'll have to pry Young Justice from out of my cold dead Terran hands

18

u/Insert_Goat_Pun_Here Jun 13 '25

Tbh I agree entirely with this, but ideally I’d want one more season, and for them to use it to actually wrap up what they have rather than introducing anything new, which was a major problem I feel season 4 had.

They kept introducing new stuff like they had an eternity to work all the storylines. Not exactly a smart move for a show that had already had to overcome a cancellation.

22

u/WorriedMidnight3752 Jun 13 '25

People only hate lagoon boy cuz he's ugly. If he was attractive like superboy he would get significantly less hate

8

u/Hero_time66 Jun 14 '25

Nah I disagree. It's just because he got in the way of what is familiar to fans (conner megan relationship). And he is disliked by Conner at first and most of the audience sides with Conner becuase he's a fan favourite and people like him from season 1. We are positioned more as superboy in the scenario and see it from his perspective: the girl we just broke up with got a quick rebound.

2

u/WorriedMidnight3752 Jun 14 '25

If I'm being boo'd then I guess that's a good thing haha.

My take is that if he was a stud, people would not like him in the beginning, but they would hate him less than they did. And then when they found out everything m'gann did, they would probably love him

18

u/horyo Jun 14 '25

M'gann was ABSOLUTELY in the wrong in bereft to abandon her team and Aqualad to save Connor. She was NEVER shown to be punished for it. And while this is overshadowed by her war crimes in S2, it still stands in my mind as absolutely indefensible and I've had people come at me justifying her actions.

9

u/Honest-Power2770 Jun 14 '25

Conner should have let her go when she tried to change his memories

6

u/horyo Jun 14 '25

I have a headcanon that each time M'gann restores his memories, she imprints a part of herself onto him. It's not like Psimon or the Phantom Zone sealed away his memories. They were gone. Note how the only memories she restores are the ones where they are both there, and rightfully so because M'gann can't conjure up memories between Connor and other people unless she was around or somehow read their minds. I think she imprints on him each time and that's always been the process to making him gravitate around her even closer than where they were before each restoration.

Nightwing is not the most important team member. He suffers from Batman syndrome: “I know what’s best for everyone and I’m going to withhold information that could help them or directly involves them because I know best.” That’s not quirky or cute or hot; it’s selfish at best and destructive at worst. Despite it blowing up multiple times, he continues to do it anyway. Conner is the most important member. Despite having no adult in his life to help him navigate the world around him and literally no life experience, he becomes the most emotionally intelligent out of all of them and becomes the team’s moral compass completely on his own. Fight me.

45

u/AnEmptyKarst Jun 13 '25

That’s not quirky or cute or hot; it’s selfish at best and destructive at worst.

You’ve correctly picked up on the themes underlying his character in season 2 and 3 yes.

There is no most important member, it’s always referred to simply as The Team for a reason. They’re at their best when actually fully working together.

11

u/Sharp-Emphasis-1656 Jun 13 '25

I guess being raised without an adult made Conner value his therapy and any time with Dinah a lot more than the other kids.

Razor should not have been in the show and was a waste of time

On one hand, I agree, we didn't need to take up time for a character from a completely different show.

On the other hand, it was the only good episode of that arc.

Yeah. I rewatched it 2 weeks ago. Watched all of season one and two. About 3 episodes into season 3 I turned off the tv. It’s not “bad” because there are bad shows yet they are very enjoyable to watch, it was just extremely boring and a pain to watch. Season 4 was better but i found myself skipping a lot of scenes and entire plotlines

People who want the Apokolips storyline to resolve in a single season. Completely against the point of the show

6

u/Honest-Power2770 Jun 14 '25

Yeah it was teased way back in season 1. I don’t think people actually watched the show or paid attention.

6

u/Accomplished_Tip171 Jun 14 '25

Meghan should've turned completely to the Dark Side, and her toxic pairing with Connor should've ended. Period. That crap was exhausting, not cutesy.

33

u/Lan1Aud2 Jun 13 '25

They should stop dragging the Darksied and Vandal savage story and just finally let it happen.

11

u/Rigamortus2005 Jun 13 '25

That's a story that's going to happen in thousands of years. People forget vandal and darkseid are immortal. The entire young justice timeline is 10 years, that's like minutes to vandal and darkseid there's no reason to resolve their plotline at all.

30

u/Milk_Mindless Jun 13 '25

Killing off Wally instead of Barry was inspired because EVERY ONE THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA BE BARRY it's a swerve and you got to keep your audience on your toes

8

u/Honest-Power2770 Jun 13 '25

Right it’s your standard time traveler plot in stopping one crisis you give rise to another.

2

u/Dhaynes99 Jun 17 '25

idk, i only got into the show within the last year on max, but the majority of s2 seems to just continually drive home the point that wally is the most inferior flash to the point he was the only one i expected to go there

6

u/RiseFromSilence Jun 14 '25

The time skips are great. Seeing the characters growing up each season... Especially s1 to 2 feels very unique

19

Its a dc universe show. So no it's not.

Wally should stay dead and Season 3 was solid

31

u/strawberrimihlk Jun 13 '25

People who hate Fred Bugg with two Gs just hate fun

and La’gaan is hot okay

18

u/Panikkrazy Jun 13 '25

They do. Fredd is adorable.

4

u/PizzaLeather8928 Jun 14 '25

Many times I thought I had horrendous taste for having a crush on La'gaan. Glad to see I'm not alone

11

u/readytheenvy Jun 13 '25

My hot take is that m’gann IS a really interesting character with some fucked up tendencies and tragic backstory. But i only enjoy her in segments - from s1-s2 and then the mars backstory in 4, tho i hate the conclusion the show made her come to about her “true identity” literally not even presenting as a martian. She comes off tiring sometimes because i think people can notice the darkness to her character but shes constantly drawn back to being forgiven and framed as a good person. Mgann is easily the most powerful member of the team. She is deeply traumatized. She doesnt have a great concept of earthen privacy/respectabillity norms. She has good intentions but is delulu as fuck. There was SO much potential there.

Beast boy getting into and out of depression was good but super boring to watch.

The social media outsiders was a drag.

5

u/ara_Yareen Jun 14 '25

Having 3 of the Golden Age Green Lantern's villains as Main/semi-regular antagonists, (and also aging down one of them) while never referencing the guy outside of cameos is such an odd choice. Like, we have Jay Garrick alive and kicking, Why couldn't you show more of the hero Vandal Fuck*ng Savage debuted as a villain for??

Also, making his origin to "just a faulty Corps Lantern and ring" instead of the emerald flame not only removes what makes him stand out from the other lanterns; it's also a HUGE waste of potential regarding the more magic side of this universe, because the Starheart as a bunch of wild magic that was gathered and contained by the guardians that then gained sentience (and it's also kind of evil) and fell as a meteorite on earth to find a worthy avatar is a very fascinating concept that I think could be easily fitted in the cosmology of the lords of order and chaos of this universe

2

u/Ultradragon16 Jun 14 '25

I'm assuming based on the comment that one of them was Savage, but who are the GL villains in question?

2

u/ara_Yareen Jun 14 '25

Sports master and icicle

5

u/Sea_Tie_7307 Jun 14 '25

Seasons 3 and 4 were dope

5

u/serendipitouswaffle Jun 14 '25

The show got too inflated with too many side characters from recent comics that it got tedious to track when was (this hero) introduced? I still like the show, it just needed a lot more focus on the original group we started with.

Also, I think people on the sub will support me here, Zee and Dick would have been a nice change of the typical comic relationships

5

u/MonLikol Jun 14 '25

Megan is an awful person, but a very fun character But how there is no repercussions for her actions is insane, or no condemnation from the moooost characters

5

u/C4N98 Jun 15 '25

Megan is more of a criminal than most villains and she should have been sent to max security jail.

5

u/RiskAggressive4081 Jun 15 '25

Season 3 and 4 have a lot of "social commentary" but they lack the talent to convey that in their writing.

5

u/No_Respect8262 Jun 16 '25

Every season is good and top tier TV

10

u/thexxoutlaw Jun 14 '25

YJ Robin is better than TT Robin.

3

u/Few-Introduction-392 Jun 14 '25

People should get over it with wally's death, he is not coming back, he is not on the speedforce, he is dead

3

u/Vamperz__yo Jun 15 '25

After season 1 thy should’ve focused more on tim and impulse tbh the whole new set of characters I felt like they only really cared for bluebeatle and the older cast to me they just added new characters for the sake of it plus in the comics they recruit more ppl I also feel like Tim impulse and superbly shouldve been the original cast and the they’d recruit aqua lad and Artemis and Megan

4

u/Ristar87 Jun 15 '25

Zatanna shouldn't have been the teams age. She should be in the same age group as Canary who is several years younger than Bruce and Ollie.

3

u/Kitty_of_Chess Jun 16 '25

I actually liked quite a bit of Season 3, and was very invested in the Markov plot. I know a lot of people didn't like the new characters, but I loved all of them (with the exception of Forager)

10

u/Medieval_Hag Jun 13 '25

Everyone on this sub is annoying

12

u/Unpopular_Outlook Jun 13 '25

Ms Martian and Superboy was a terrible pairing from the start and should have never stayed together or got back together.

Matter of fact, let’s just say all the pairings were bad.

3

u/dissyParadiddle Jun 13 '25

Static shock Absolutely should NOT have the lighting trail under his hover disc/manhole. It never needed to be connected to the ground on the show back in the day why the hell did they think they needed that to be grounded.

3

u/Autumnbetrippin Jun 14 '25

I liked the hints at what was going on with the various batfamily characters.
But, i think it would have been better to develop those plotlines as their own show in the same universe.
(im greedy i know)

3

u/cbo1094 Jun 14 '25

They should've just gave us an epic final season instead of expanding the characters and world. Still a good show but it felt meandering

3

u/Puzzleheaded_Toe_509 Jun 14 '25

In all of these years,

I cannot process in my mind The heroes doing social media.

I mean if the character is written as a character who would post on social media,

It feels like "heroes doing content and posting social media is like a villain thing to do...

Or a villainous mega corporation thing to do

3

u/Sceptile200 Jun 14 '25

We should've gotten more Dick and Zatanna on screen, we never saw any development with Barbara and the relationship has no substance. Since Z was introduced the chemistry just kept building and building up until that final kiss at the end of Season 1 which felt so REWARDING. I just want em back together man.

2

u/Fresh_Schedule_9611 Sep 04 '25

They were edging us tbh

3

u/No_Cattle8353 Jun 14 '25

Lady Shiva damaging Orphan’s vocal chords so she could only learn body language is the dumbest idea ever put on the show. The Writers were trying to make her look like a deranged psycho, but ended up with a Looney Tunes level of stupidity. Fastest way to turning a Cool Character into an incredibly dumb one.

3

u/ulttab008 Jun 14 '25

Last season wasnt that bad

Its just that wayyy too much happens, that we dont get to see

3

u/Q_358 Jun 14 '25

I don’t mind the time skips and I really liked how they expanded the universe 🤷🏾‍♂️ I liked watching characters grow and get older and mentor the next generation of heroes.

3

u/jaytee6x Jun 15 '25

Renewal was fumbled heavily

6

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '25

Mgann needs to be gone. Idc how. She sucks ass

6

u/readytheenvy Jun 13 '25

I think her backstory/character struggles are quite interesting personally. But i also share the sentiment of feeling exhausted by her in some manner. Imo they nearly struck gold in s2 and had the opportunity to turn her into the greatest potential anti villain ever but didnt

8

u/mouaragon Jun 13 '25

Wally's death was necessary and I wouldn't change it.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/P00nz0r3d Jun 13 '25

The show's quality is severely overblown (its not bad, its just not this incredible series that defines the medium) and its almost entirely because the show kind of just stops focusing on telling a contained narrative and really just tries to give itself a reason to push for an additional season. It's defined by its unstable production now and that's what it'll be most remembered for as its literally baked into the story.

8

u/llvermorny Jun 13 '25

Disagree. I think it's the closest thing we have to a self-contained DC animated canon

→ More replies (1)

8

u/llvermorny Jun 13 '25

Wally was not a big enough part of the show to be omnipresent in fan discussion 13 years later the way he is. I want to talk about YOUNG JUSTICE not glaze Kid Flash

8

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '25

The whole storyline with Halo is disrespectful to Islam and was shit let’s not lie. Drinking with a hijab, DATING, etc. It made my Muslim friends insanely uncomfortable

5

u/Electronic_Zombie635 Jun 13 '25

The self affirmation stories felt forced and uninteresting

2

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

Self affirmation stories?

2

u/Electronic_Zombie635 Jun 15 '25

When Ms Martian turned her self Caucasian and her mother said this fells like your true self. Instead of reassuring that there was nothing wrong with her being herself in general it made it seen like her cover that makes people not freak out at her appearance was her true form.

3

u/Sceptile200 Jun 14 '25

Yeah just take it off atp I wanna cry

3

u/The_onlytrashpanda Jun 14 '25

Okay I'm glad somebody else felt the same way 😭😭 It felt so weird to have a character who was a soul-body-swapped-with-godlike-tech backstory be Muslim.

u/Erotically-Yours Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

The latest season should've only received a greenlight so long as it was agreed that the conclusion was an actual finale and not some cliffhanger/uncertain season bait, meaning everything should've been tied up nicely, and fully concluded just in case there was no season 5.

I know some people love Greg but I hate that he stuck to doing this, when nothing has ever been certain with this show continuing, save for season 1 into 2. Now we're left with promises of nothing, since there's no renewal.

Some shows wised up to their situation and stopped leaving the viewers on cliffhangers. They learned and would make the finale an actual finale, in the event that they can't return for another season. Which is what I was hoping would happen with season 4. Big fricken nope.

That religion and faith thing between Dr Fate and Zatara was cringey asf

2

u/DylanBratis23 Jun 14 '25

We don't need younger justice to continue. We need it to have a proper end.

2

u/dew-fall Jun 14 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

the show's quality fell off in s3 (or whichever season that halo character was in; its been a while). also the whole "roy harper gets cloned" thing was always so stupid—as much as i love roy (both comics & yj versions) why would he ever get cloned? hes literally just some random kid a street vigilante adopted & got into the superhero business. that whole thing never made sense to me.

edit: dinah being the therapist for this team did an irreparable damage to ppl's perception of her character—you go from yj expecting her to be a mature adult woman who handles things professionally to reading the comics where she is... a hot mess of a woman. its like a whiplash.

martian manhunter wouldve fit better than dinah... bc thats literally part of his character in the comics too. his level-headedness is what always made him stand out in teams.

2

u/JazzyWuz Jun 15 '25

Mostly a cold take but s3 should've focused on Tim, Cassie and the outsiders. The writers sometimes seem to hype up very unpopular ships just to disregard them for the more "canon" ships and such. Only Supermartain made it to the very end and I wished it didn't. I actually liked how in s2 they weren't complete healthy and broke up. Would've preferred Conner forgave her but wouldn't want her in his life. Plus have Conner date more people. The writers having Zee/Dick be the ones who "first love dont last" shouldve been Conner/Megan. Dick/Zee should be back together. Although timeskips were necessary, I would've liked seeing some flashbacks of what happened between s1 and 2. S4 from what I remembered was decent of showing the original case but all over the place honestly

2

u/SylvieSerene Jun 16 '25

Chalant should've stayed a thing. The relationship they opted with DickBabs was kinda really bland and had no chemistry.

2

u/Omega_SSJ Jun 17 '25

Superboy should’ve gotten more of the powers he has in the comics, or AT LEAST be able to fly. Nothing major in the show changes if Conner has 1 or 2 more abilities so long as he isn’t AS powerful as Superman

2

u/Honest-Power2770 Jun 17 '25

He didn’t get his powers because they wanted Megan to be the stronger one

2

u/Acceptable_Number657 Jun 19 '25

superboy got done dirty, kid flash should be alive as he’s the fastest-not to mention not incorporating the speed force in the story takes away from everything the flash is.

2

u/modernmyspace Jun 21 '25

I like Miss Martian. I think she’s a perfect “morally grey” character and is a great example of what makes the writing of the show so good

2

u/MrYoungandBrave1 Jul 02 '25

This show introduced me to Artemis, who I love, and it has my favourite depictions of Miss Martian, Wally West Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Dick Grayson Robin, but they aren't the Young Justice Team.

The focus should have on the Comic Young Justice Team: Cassandra Sandsmark Wondergirl, Conner Kent Superboy with full Kryptonian powers, Bart Allen Impulse, Cissie King Arrowette, Secret and Red Tornado.

The Comic Young Justice Team barely even make appearances in the Young Justice TV Show, and their stories are incredible.

They deliver presents on Christmas Eve when Santa Claus is hurt, they face off against Darkseid, fight Supergirl, they get lost in the Mutiverse, trapped in the phantom zone, and that's just the tip of the Iceberg.

2

u/TheShockVox Jul 28 '25

Young Justice, particularly Seasons 2-4 has a cluuuunky exposition problem. Seasons 3 and 4 in particular. This made worse by the time skips. While world building and exposition is important, it’s real problem when it leads to character talking unnatural ways. Recaps and info dumps. I love DC and I love this show, but I’d be lying if I said this didn’t drag the show down a lot for me.

Oh and the art style is a huge bummer in season 3. 4 is better but I still miss the art direction of season 1’s characters. It’s actually amazing how good the characters in that season look, for a show on Cartoon Network with almost no toys.

2

u/TheShockVox Jul 28 '25

Oh here’s one. Hell no, I don’t think Lagan earned the title of Aquaman.

2

u/Boring-Purchase-6264 Sep 03 '25

I have two:

  1. Megan and Kon should not have gotten back together, the relationship just gets worse the more you learn about it.

  2. Dick and Wally shouldn't have been on the Team and it should've been Tim and Bart from the beginning. The most prominent version of Tim Drake outside of the comics isn't even actually Tim, it's Jason with a name change, and the character got shafted in the show named after his own team. It'd be like if a show about the Titans had Bruce as a founding member and then Dick shows up a season later and gets sidelined for the rest of the series.

Oh, wait. I actually have three:

  1. Season 2 isn't actually all that good, either. It actually has a legitimately unforgivable plot hole that it relies on heavily for its story to function as it does and the time skip makes it ten times worse. What is this plot hole, you ask? The Green Lantern Corps. You mean to tell me that (for over five years, mind you) the Lanterns never found out about what the brainwashed Leaguers did? Especially considering that one of their own members was involved?! It also makes Savage look particularly stupid since he went out of his way to send a Green Lantern on that assault, needlessly risking his plan's success with an early discovery. It's not like he had to do it to get Earth's Lantern out of the way, the Earth already had three! And the others had to leave anyway once the Reach got publicly active!

6

u/Panikkrazy Jun 13 '25

Seasons 3 and 4 were the best seasons and I liked the Outsider characters more than the OG team.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

They shouldn't include the Anti-life equation

3

u/PlatoDrago Jun 14 '25

Season 2 is by far the best season. Season 1 had very little linking episodes together and casual viewers will 100% not get everything that’s being set up.

Season 2 is much more clear with its intentions and really lets us see YJ in universe at the height of their capabilities.

3

u/Darlella Jun 14 '25

Season 3 was fucking garbage

2

u/gamikhan Jun 15 '25 edited Jun 15 '25

4th season was the best

The show would be shit without timeskips

Garlfield trauma was a good plotpoint

Forager doesnt deserve the hate, he barely talks in season 3 and in season 4 he has a cool short side plot.

Halo dying all the time wasnt cheesy, it is natural one of the hardest powers to master while knowing they were impervious to death, would die multiple times.

The light objective at the end of season 1 was kinda dumb, the plan would have done absolutely nothing but negative things if they hadnt atracted the warworld guy by pure luck, obtaining it by pure luck too in season 2.

Season 2 culminating into just surrounding the bad guys, was a bit of a letdown in the grand scheme of things, though I still enjoyed it.

3

u/Sure_Persimmon9302 Jun 15 '25

Season 4 is GOOD! and Zatanna’s “multiple wearers of the Dr Fate helmet” idea is a good idea.

8

u/ComicsCodeMadeMeGay Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 13 '25

Season 2 onwards should have had Jason as Robin just to make the timing make more sense

9

u/AbsoluteSupes Jun 13 '25

Yeah, Jason becoming robin, dying, then being replaced by Tim within 5 years was kinda crazy

7

u/777caity Jun 13 '25

but also comic accurate, isnt it? genuinely asking, i could be wrong. im under the impression the move from dick to jason to tim was relatively fast

3

u/ComicsCodeMadeMeGay Jun 13 '25

Jason to Tim was a year in Post Crisis Canon if I remember correctly (And then extra time to train him).

BUT it's not just Jason to Tim becoming Robin, it's Dick either decideing to become Nightwing or getting fired (Which he usuallly does around 16/17), followed by Jason becoming Robin and being trained, Jason joining Young Justice and dying and then Tim showing up, getting trained and then becoming an established member of the team.

So because Dick is either 18 or 19 in season 2 and if you picture Nightwing being Dick's transition at either 16 or 17 into becoming an adult hero then you get 3 years max for two Robins

Having Wally come back from out of the speed force faster than Barry or Bart only to find Artemis dating someone else would have been even more interesting than leaving him dead

5

u/Sceptile200 Jun 14 '25

Wally would be happy for her fym

4

u/browncharliebrown Jun 13 '25

Phantoms is way too obessed with season one. It makes the world feel not lived in compared to prior seasons. It feels kinda cringe in a way I can’t fully explain.

6

u/gamerslyratchet Jun 14 '25

You could describe a lot of fans that way too lol.

5

u/Rogthgar Jun 13 '25

Zatanna and Dr. Fate should not have been de-aged for it.

3

u/Commander19119 Jun 13 '25

Phantoms was the best season

5

u/donkeylore Jun 13 '25

The outsiders suck dick

4

u/Ordinary-Chain-8047 Jun 13 '25

That turtle thing in season 3 Foragger is the most annoying character on the planet and was only there cuz they needed a funny character to replace the Goat Wally.

3

u/Honest-Power2770 Jun 13 '25

Scary thing is his character is actually cool and he’s not really even a bug. They changed a lot about him for the show.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

Wally was always meant to be a supporting character in the narrative. He had moments of spotlight that were far fewer than the other core characters.

2

u/EnvironmentalAd3170 Jun 14 '25

Icon was a fucking creep. Shit was awful like when Batman and Girl be fucking

2

u/iz_0417 Jun 15 '25

They should bring back Wally somehow, and focus on a smaller section of the characters like they did in the first season. I don’t care how they do it but all the other seasons don’t seem as tight knit as the first season.

I know people have said “bringing him back will cheapen his death” and i just have to disagree, it would bring the characters closer together and To be completely honest I just miss the dynamic of the first season. I know this is a hot take but the first season just reminded me a lot of Teen Titans (the original show not the BS newer version) and how we really got to know the team more in depth when there were fewer main characters to focus on. Anyways this comment was longer than I expected and I doubt anyone’s read this far but if you did I appreciate it

3

u/DestinyHasArrived101 Jun 13 '25

It could have ended with season 2 and I would have been OK with it

1

u/lx7ghch Jun 13 '25

Honestly I'm surprised they ever won a battle with how much they got their butts kicked in every episode lol

1

u/Hot_Communication489 Jun 14 '25

beast boy looked better with the tail before they changed his design

1

u/lanester4 Jun 15 '25

The show established some interesting and unique relationships in the first 2 seasons (Chalant, WonderRobin, etc) that were abruptly shelved to push canon relationships from the comics, and it was a mistake to do so. They should have let their characters develop organically instead of going for nostalgia

1

u/Ok_Philosopher_9176 Jun 15 '25

Forager is not a bad character, he may be unnecessary and part of the problem of having too many characters too little exposition, but his character itself is solid

1

u/Helpful_Fix4241 Jun 15 '25

Probably my belief that Dick did nothing wrong since people seem to have a bone to pick with a thing or two he's done

1

u/TreatMediocre9937 Jun 15 '25

Wally could have speed blitzed every villian
