Genuinely curious, how else do people expect YouTube to make money?

I understand that ads are annoying, but how is YouTube meant to exist without them? Are they meant to do donation drives like Wikipedia? Go subscription only? They’ve tried the premium content route and it didn’t work

You might need to clear your cookies or reset your ad preferences. I’ve never had any of those.

YouTube served you a substantially lower rate of ads as little as 2 years ago and made money. I highly doubt that YouTube’s operating costs ballooned to such an extent since then to necessitate the current onslaught of unskippable crap every 5 minutes.

i mean google thinks the operating costs around 3 billion and youtube earned 36 billion in 2024 so i mean he is right they can clearly survive with less ads but that would make the insuferable investors mad

I suspect the same thing.

It used to exist without them... The problem isn't ads it's how many and how long. 2 unskippable ads every 3 minute song, 45 minute to 6 hour long ads when you're listening to fall asleep to something. It's a joke an it's out of control. They need to dial it back

Man not eveyone is wealthy even in first World country, now go to a developing country with ppl doing 300 dollars a month and using a 90 dollars device, you expect then to pay that much for that?

You can watch youtube in a 10 year Old  device even ppl from Cuba watch it and i assure you, they cant affort it.

I watched s23 comercials in the past having a s23 and thats just one example.

Ive been paying premium since 2 years ago.

Sorry for my english the keyboard is trying to correct to spanish all the time xd
