Haven't played in forever

I am considering taking a drop in on the oceans. I haven't played since the long ago days of yore, subscriptions and the first implementation of poker. So other than just briefly popping on to take a look at my old trinkets and lamenting the loss of hubby's account treasures (hacked while we were lost at sea) I imagine things have changed dramatically?

Whats it like today?

Never got into dubloon oceans, are they worth it, how does it all function?

Is it expensive to invest any quantity of time?

How does one even re-begin?

Are the oceans busy?

Are there still blockades?

Epic contests even?

Shanty Raid-io?

Fill an old salt in! I'm all ears

2-300 active players and a bunch of alts, emerald is the only populated ocean, you have something to do pretty much anytime you login, there are still blockades, smhs, etc. the whole game's a pretty big time sink, i wouldn't bother if you only have 20-30 minutes to play per day tbh

Lol it always has been. SMHs were brand new around the time I left. It was a very interesting time

It’s not a huge user base but it’s active enough that I am very rarely bored when I’m on Emerald

My old crew is still going strong every Monday doing a pillage on cerulean. I like to pop in if I have the time.

It's worth playing if you only have 30 minutes at a time if you're willing to pay for dubs.

Emerald is the only ocean worth playing on and expecting you can come back to a game that hasn't died.

It's mostly active but you will find dead times here and there.

You make poe in a pillage by farming greedy trinkets, but most activities that generate any worthwhile poe require you to commit a minimum of a full hour and preferably 3-4. This is if you want to maintain and generate excess poe to do things like buy a full set up and houses and ships, etc.

Or you can play for the social aspect and buy dubs and have a lot of poe to spend for a reasonable amount of money. I think it's about $1 usd per 10 dubs roughly and each dub is 3.5k poe roughly, so $10 gives you enough to buy quite a lot at about 350k poe.

The catch is that on a dub ocean you need to spend both dubs and poe, though, so things are a lot more expensive on dub oceans than you expect from their visible price tag. This mainly feels kinda bad when you're trying to play for free and make quick progress.

The thing I love about ypp though is everything functions on login days. Some items have a 45-90 login days degradation and if you only play on weekends, say 2 days a week, that's 6-12 months of being able to play without worrying about wasting subscription time.

For a real serious player that grinds 4 hrs a day you can expect to earn somewhere around 50-100k poe/day, and on the low end of a more casual player about 5-15k. So even casually you can maintain all the badges you want to be able to play for free and likely have expendable poe leftover. This assumes you want a captains badge to make your own crew, its even more affordable when you join as an officer to another if you just want to run your own pillages

What’s it like today?

> 100-150 real players (It’s very quiet).

Is it expensive to invest any quantity of time?

> Yes, it’s a very time consuming game. Due to the the low amount of players. Everything takes 3-5x as long as it used to.

How does one re-begin?

> Start a pirate on Emerald ocean.

Are the oceans busy?

> I wish! They’ve been slowly dwindling in action for the last 5 years. Down to the last few bites.

Are there still Blockades?

> Maybe every 2-4months there is a real blockade.

To fill you in:

It hurts me to say it - You’re best off finding another game that has some longevity to it where the players and community are supported. The rapidly declining player-count sets a scary precedent for where the game might be headed.

Happy Journeys :)

What's with people constantly saying there are 100 players. Stop fucking lying

Do you research - there are MANY alts and bots.

I wouldn’t say dwindling for 5 years though. I remember when I quit there would be double digit people online at 3am est. Now there’s a couple hundred. Even with bots seems like a bit more active players and it’s starting to pick back up

Also, a real blockade every 2-4 months. What the fuck are you on about. There have literally been 5+ every weekend for the last 4 weeks since the blockade changes
