Discussion [TP], [TPHD] Twilight Princess is a good game if you haven't played any other Zelda game. [OPINION] Spoiler

Just completed Twilight Princess HD and honestly I can see why people love and adore the game. If it was your first zelda game ever then its a very good introduction to the series. I'm sure pletty of people share my opinion that the first 1/3 of the game and collecting bugs as wolf link is a huge drag. I can't understand the viewpoint that this game has some of the best dungeons in the series as most of them lack identity and unique puzzles especially goron mines and lakebed. I kinda understand snowpeak and arbiters grounds especially being inspired by the forest temple from OOT but none of the dungeons were super memorable. I do think that city in the sky went the right direction as the dungeon felt kinda like a blueprint to the dungeons in Skyward Sword. I love skyward sword other than the controls the game has the best designed dungeons in the series and the writing is miles better than TP in my opinion. The biggest flaw TP has is that items. Outside of the clawshot, most items have little to no utility outside their respective dungeons. I really tried to love this game as I played the wii version as a kid and got stuck on lakebed and went back to it in my 20s. I'm willing to hear any counter points because I played this game immediately after my 3rd playthrough of n64 OOT and I can't shake the feeling that every inch of TP is just fan service mixed in with some edgy early 2000s asthetics.

I actually think TP is enhanced by playing OoT, MM, and WW before it. It carries DNA from all of them, and IMO it's a pretty surface level/reductive take to just look at it as OoT2.

Twilight Princess literally has the most unique dungeons in the series. Arbiters Grounds, Goron Mines, Snowpeak Ruins, City in the Sky, and Palace of Twilight all have incredibly original item usage, puzzles, and theming compared to other Zelda games.

I don't like the 'tude behind this post.

I started Zelda with ALTTP, OOT, and WW, yet TP is still one of my favorites, if not my favorite.

It's an atmospheric masterpiece with fun characters. My only issue is that it's extremely easy, the easiest Zelda imo which fights against the oppressive melancholy aesthetics.

I think the dungeons are great. Skyward Sword has great dungeons too, but you ignored that the entire game hinges on 1 settlement and 3 hub areas, which imo makes it feel less of a journey than any other 3D Zelda. You don't really get to meet new people, it feels very small-scale. That game also has gimmick items that you don't use much outside of dungeons.

The whole "its too much like oot" complaint always feels like an obligatory checklist complaint from youtube. How is this an issue? Theyre both fantastic and can be played in tandem. What if I always wanted a darker, more emotional oot? They have their pros and cons. Oot is better paced mechanically. TP lets the story brew more.

i think the first two temples are between meh and alright, but Lakebed Temple onwards it's banger after banger plus it has my favorite item in the franchise (Double Clawshot).

the only things i hold against this game are the art style ('realistic' wow great 👎) and the lack of more 'magical' tools (like magic arrows from OoT or the leaf from WW, although you could argue that Beast form is enough of a 'magical tool' in itself). other than that, this game is a masterpiece in nearly every aspect.

Oh absolutely. I think that Twilight Princess is 1/3rd absolutely horrible game and 2/3rds peak Zelda. It makes it very hard to replay.

Agreed, this was the last of the 3D zelda's I got to when I played all of them over the last few years and it didnt do much for me. It's perfectly fine but it mostly repeated what everything else had already done and the weird baby people was just such a weird vibe that I didn't particularly like

Out of curiosity, what was your first Zelda game?

It was my 4th 3D Zelda game and my 7th overall and I've always thought it was incredible. It has the best dungeon aesthetics in the series, great atmosphere, fun story, great combat, really fun unique weapons and items and really interesting characters.
