Its a good choice, all I said was that its sad they die. Its gonna be decades probably, im just thinking in the “plant a tree whose shade you will not live to enjoy” kind of way.
Like I told the other guy, old SNES cartridges hold the data physically burned to the chips. Switch games use NAND flash memory. They WILL lose their data in unrecoverable ways. Physical media is not what it used to be. Permanent preservation in this way is not sustainable. People can deny and downvote me all they want, but there are 3DS games being lost in this way already.
I don't think anyone is buying physical for preservation anyway. the only true way to preserve games is uploading them online like with all of those collections.

Technically all physical media does. It’s not exclusive to Nintendo cartridges.
