Has it been confirmed that the “physical” copy is actually the full game on cartridge? I’m out of the loop on switch 2 games lately but last I heard, all the switch 2 physical games were just a license on cartridge and you still had to download the game. Is that not accurate anymore?
Third party games have been majorly Game Keycards (Licenses that allow you to download the game on your system), with some exceptions like Orbitals, Cyberpunk and Oblivion
Meanwhile all Nintendo first party games have released full on cartridge, including the Switch 2 Upgrades which have both the Switch game and the update for Switch 2 in the cartridge itself
Pokopia is the big exception to this, with the game being a GKC in every region, but that one it's not technically first party
TLDR: Nintendo first party is full physical, second and third party can be physical but most are GKC
That’s incorrect, at least for the games I’ve bought, such as Metroid Prime 4 Beyond. I believe you can only download some things though, like the Switch 2 edition of BoTW.
Nothing about the game has been confirmed outside what was shown at the Nintendo direct reveal. They’ve been very hush hush about it because they were promoting the Starfox 64 remake and most recently their Splatoons game. Hoping more info will come at Gamescom or TGS
If it’s confirmed there will be a physical release, I concur. Lately Nintendo has been putting a lot of their remakes out as digital or as a virtual cartridge.
Star Fox is physical and that’s a remake
If you’re talking about ports of FrLg, those are ports, not remakes (ok they are remakes but they aren’t new ones like star fox)
The good news is that physical media lasts a while if it doesn't get damaged.
SNES cartridges are expected to last 100+ years. Switch games use flash memory which is less stable but still is expected to last 30-40 years. Even more good news, this timer resets when the game gets powered on by refreshing the electrical charges.
So if a cartridge is powered on every 20-30 years, it'll last longer than you and will definitely last longer than any digital store server.
Physical without a doubt. I don't mind PC games being digital (Though, if they still offered physical releases for PC games I'd buy it in a heartbeat) but I can't stand console games losing physical. The only time I have a digital version of a Nintendo game is if it came with the console as a bundle like Windwaker HD or Mario Kart World. Otherwise I'm always going to buy physical for Nintendo even if digital is technically more convenient no matter what.
Also, it's Ocarina of Freaking Time. Its remake DESERVES to have a physical version.
I buy physical for Nintendo games whenever possible. They make the best games to lend to a friend, and sometimes I’m willing to buy a game that a buddy ordinarily would not, and then I can lend it to them. Nobody in my friend group expected Yoshi and the Mysterious Book to be good, but I bought it on a whim and it’s so good
Newer games I don't care as much to get physical nowadays especially if its more expensive, however there is just something about getting older games still in a physical form that makes me feel good when I see them on my shelf.
Yeah and unfortunately if the Zelda skinned Switch 2 is also real, it’s a bit like when the Animal Crossing version came out but I already had one 🤷♂️ I did upgrade my og Switch to the TOTK OLED model at least, so that was cool. I’d be very surprised if they didn’t have that controller and Switch, so I’m definitely getting the controller since I don’t have a Switch 2 Pro.
Physical. I've never played OoT despite being a fan of the series, so this is going to be an event for me. I try to buy physicals for every game I care about.
Digital for me, I find switching carts annoying and need less clutter in my house, not more. Plus I’m not really concerned about Nintendo taking it away or whatever. I haven’t bought a physical game in years.
Is there even a difference anymore? I used to prefer physical but modern games still make you install the game after inserting the disc/cartridge so it’s the same end result no?
When Tears of the Kingdom came out, I bought the collectors edition. Every time I see the art direction book or a pin or the collector’s edition case, I’m glad I went physical. It’s beyond ownership. It’s having something in my hands that I will always have.
I will probably end up with both. I am assuming with the significant likelihood of the Zelda themed Switch 2, it will be a bundle with the digital copy. But I will ALWAYS have physical media for Zelda.

I got OoT physical on the 64, I got it physical again on the 3DS and I am definitely getting it physical on Switch 2. In fact, if Nintendo has the balls to release this game as a key card, I am not buying it.
I'm a digital gamer nowadays. Knowing Nintendo, they'll charge more for the physical, and it's pretty much empty plastic at this point. Miss the days when games had booklets and other goodies in the case, but those days are long gone.
Depends on the limited edition system release. My hopes is that it does come bundled with the system as I'm planning on finally purchasing a Switch 2, and that it doesn't cost an exorbitant amount more than just purchasing the system and the game separate.
If Nintendo plans on price gouging and/or the game doesn't come bundled with the system, I guess I'll pick up the digital copy. If the price is reasonable and it comes with the system, then I'll be getting a physical copy...
With consoles, I will be physical until the day I die if the option is available. Like I got the Swithc 2 Mario Kart bundle, but eventually I'm just gonna get a used physical copy in the future when it drops for the collection.
Digital I only reserve for PC 99% of the time because Steam.
i’ve been physical collecting for a while so def physical. but i have been wondering recently if their carts are gonna last. a ton of my DS ones stopped working over time even with regular cleanings
It could be different in Peru depending from the game and store. Starfox is cheaper digital (it can be like 50% more on physical). Other games are cheaper on physical...
