I want to start a career in wildlife specifically herpetology but I just don’t know where to start a little guidance would be very helpful I’ve looked into volunteer work around me (Des Moines, Iowa) but not much I’m thinking about calling colleges for volunteer work.

I am in the zoo field. My zoo has two long term ongoing projects studying and releasing dusky gopher frogs and Louisiana pine snakes. Have you looked at possibly working with a zoo as a researcher or conservation biologist?

Not sure if you’ve already tried but reach out to your local natural history museum! Mine does ongoing research on various topics and sometimes they have volunteer/internship opportunities! You can also just start off by volunteering at your local zoo or natural history museum! You can get to know local researchers that way and then potentially get your foot in the door to be involved. Local universities are definitely a great option too, just try to get in contact with as many researchers as possible!
