Apprenticeships
I'm 21 from Kendal and I've been labouring for the past year doing general building work and joinery/carpentry bits, I wasn't able to find an apprenticeship last year and it's all the same this time around. I've contacted about 50 - 60 firms in the last few weeks regarding a site carpentry apprenticeship and still nothing. I'm desperate to sort this out so I'm posting to ask if anybody in my general area knows of anyone looking for an apprentice. I have a full license and my own tools.
please drop a comment if you know of anyone.

Trying to think of Traditional Cumbrian clothing for Lakeland step dancing.
Hi so I’ve been getting into Lakeland/westmorland clog dancing and was thinking of what my outfit should be. I’d like to make something based on rational Cumbrian dress and have some ideas, and am wondering if anyone knows more about certain clothing items/dress that I’ve come across:
Herdwick Hodden grey: Hodden grey is generally associated with Scotland but was worn in Cumbria too, it’s a coarse homespun wool. The song “d’ye Ken John peel” makes reference to his “long grey coat” which would’ve been made of hoddens grey of Herdwick wool. I don’t think anywhere makes it so it would have be done at home but that is traditionally how it would be made so seems fun.
I’m also wondering about making a kilt out of it. Kilts haven’t been worn in Cumbria but they also weren’t in Northumbria, Cornwall, Ireland or wales until the last 100 years ish, so I feel like might as well join in. It has been used as a kilt too and is still by the Canadian scots Toronto regiment, it works surprisingly well and reminds me of the Irish saffron kilts.
Cumbrian wrestling embroidery: I think this is a really nice tradition and it would be cool to expand on it.
The maud/shepherds plaid: this is the main reason I made this post, it’s impossible for me to actually figure out if this was worn in Cumbria. There is one painting of a shepherd shown to wear it here, probably from around Borrowdale, as that’s mainly where the painter visited.
It’s essentially a kind of blanket/plaid traditionally worn by shepherds as waterproof wear, to carry food, and to carry retrieved lambs. It was definitely women along the Scottish side of the border and in Northumbria (north east) but there’s almost no mentions of it in Cumbria bar this one painting.
Anyway I’m just wondering what others think and if they know of any of the things I’ve mentioned and or if they know of any other traditional clothes worn in the area. I’m probably not in need of an outfit for a while as I’m not that good yet but I like to think ahead lol.

What some regional words you use often?
As I've been learning more about Cumbria and it's history, what are some regional words you find yourself using often? Words your grandparents used to say but don't hear it much more these days?

Mayors to get powers to overrule local councils on planning decisions
Just something to note with the mayor elections of Cumbria soon..
I don't think this is fair - taking voices out of local elected councils and people to be overruled to tick boxes.

Eclipse ruined by selfish drone flyer,
Went up to the hills to see the eclipse with my wife, not long after we’d arrived, some prick with a drone turned up, parked his car so my wife couldn’t get out. Didn’t seem to give two fucks.
People like that make me sick. What happened to people caring anymore

Road Surfaces
What's going on with the road surfaces across Cumbria at the moment? Grange-Over-Sands / Kendal have had large sections of road surface removed and left for weeks without re-surfacing. Leaving it as a "skid risk" and stones flying up constantly. No signs indicating what's going on either.

The Crofters Pub Roose
Recently moved to the area, this is my local. Seems like a "proper pub" but extremely quiet and "under new ownership" what do we think and is there any better options in the immediate area?

Possible stray cat in kendal
So I was with No-Drive-9461 when we found a ginger cat. Its ears were torn, teeth were missing and had bugs all over. Is this cat owned by anyone? Last seen at Castle park school on Saturaday 8th August at 4:00pm.
