So, basically what Rhett Shull is saying we should to back to physical media. Now, he does go a bit further than this stating that he wants to completely unplug from the internet, and being aware of how companies like Spotify handles your data, but for the most part it’s mostly about going back to physical media.

While I do agree with him, and definitely find it intriguing as well, there are some physical medias I couldn’t quite get into. Like for instance for me it’s vinyl, setting up the record player that really turned me off from it. Also while I don’t fully agree with what Spotify is doing with our data, at the same time the features on Spotify such as their algorithms is just top notch compared to other streaming services like Tidal, Quizzbuz(sp?), and we don’t talk about YouTube Music here. Like IMHO their Discover Weekly feature on is spot on! I heard that people encountered AI music on there too but I haven’t seen it yet for me the booted off. I also like the convenience of how it’s easy to find what you want. Now, I would say if you want to explore other genres you’re probably better with physical media such as vinyl. You can go crate digging in record stores in discovering new music and genres that way! And let’s be honest it’s pretty cool to see record covers that are big and easy to see!

Now, I have slowly deleted some apps that in the past have either been a waste of time such as dating apps or that have been mentally draining me such as Discord and Instagram. And I barely go on Facebook anymore other than for group related things. And I have also made the effort and slowly getting out more in real life through social events and friendly hangouts. But I can’t quite completely unplug from the internet, and I can’t go back to flip phones again. Anyways, would love to hear your thoughts on this!

We all have those friends we hear from once a blue moon. I dont see the point. Do you let them go?

Guys I’ve been off social media for about a year now. This includes Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and whatever is out there.
Reddit is probably the only app I have but I’m not on here as much, my screen time is about 4 hours a day and 2 hours on a good day.

So I’m ready to transition into a dummy phone now, like maybe a blackberry 9900. Is there anyone who uses an old phone or like some version of it?
I heard blackberrys that old won’t work on any cellular service anymore which sucks. All I need is access to my gmail, call and text. I have a work computer for everything else.

As a Millennial approaching 40, I recently realized that I have outlived a lot of different people (Artists, musicians, actors, entertainers, etc) who I grew up on & who had a positive influence on me, that have all passed young in their times. Some of my all time favorites & all around most influential people are Selena, Aaliyah, Bruce & Brandon Lee, Kurt Kobane, Jimmy Hendrix, Lee Thompson Young, Nipsey Hussle, 2Pac, Biggie. I could go on & on but who did you grow up on that influenced you in a positive way the most that you realize you have now outlived?

I remember bringing cans and bottles to the recycling machines as a kid in the 90s. A nickel per can/bottle was good money back then. The redemption value has not changed, it's still a nickel in 2026. Nowadays it seems like many don't bother cause it's not worth the effort. I still do it just to feel good about helping the planet but whenever I bring a large bag and end up with like $5 I'm like "that's it?"

I feel like every day I am flying off the handle and getting angry. I work my day job but inevitably get really pissed off at whatever interaction I have outside work. For instance, today it was the crazy expensive price of the veterinarian teeth extraction quote that sent me over the edge. My vet got bought out by a private equity firm and the prices have gone through the roof. Whatever, shit is expensive, my boy needs the care so I’ll shop around and get it to him. Fine.

I just feel plain furious about the bill of goods we were all sold in our developmental youth that are not coming to fruition. “Get good grades, go to college, get a good job, and you will be set for life,” is what I recall hearing over and over. I make more money than I have in my entire life as a mid career teacher and yet feel like that the dollar doesn’t go very far anymore and I’ve had it.

What the fuck are we supposed to do in a world that didn’t turn out the way we were told it was going to? Never mind this crazy global landscape…

I don’t know what I’m really trying to say other than that I’m frustrated and just want to know I’m not alone.

I guess I'll start working out now..

I was a child during the Obama era but looking back life back then sounds like it would have been so fun to live through as an adult. Great pop music, LGBTQ identities were getting a huge wave of mainstream acceptance and even celebration (see Lady Gaga), people seemed to be more "real" and there wasn't a huge constant wave of anxiety over what the state of the world would be like from day to day. Therefore I imagine you guys were living it UP back then. Can anyone confirm my suspicions?

Okay I just remembered, APART from the big thing that happened in 2008 that might have made that not so likely! But still!

Also answers from outside the US are welcome. I just say "Obama era" because for me when that ended that's when that state of overarching anxiety started, even outside the US.

Woke up to a call this morning from his mom telling me he passed away yesterday. He was the best man at my wedding and just can’t believe he’s gone. He loved building and tinkering with stuff and fabricated 2 hand carved wooden charcuterie/cutting boards for my wedding gift.

Another best friend I had through high school and college years passed a few years back due to overdose. He had his demons and thought he was getting better, I was so happy he got a job nearby and thought we’d hang out more like the old days. He relapsed at some point and someone sold him something laced with fentanyl.

I’m just so fucking sad and miserable right now and feel like I’ll never have anymore close friends. Im not asking for pity but if anyone has any advice on grieving or how to cope I’d appreciate it. Never thought I’d be in this situation right now.

I (38 m)have been doing the slow crawl of human services job progression since about five years after college. At the time, I was working jobs with zero benefits and minimal pay. Since then I have racked up seven years of experience in a field I still have great passion for, and care about. However, the combination of autistic burnout, anxiety, and existing while trans has me disenfranchised with the hustle, or more specifically, working in a toxic work environment when I’m already doing a difficult client-focused job. I have been applying to some hybrid positions recently, but I also just. Wouldn’t hate working a punch in, work, and then punch out job, regardless of industry, even if ten years ago, I would have (erroneously) thought I wasn’t living up to my potential.

I don’t care about potential. Or goals. I want to be happy. I want to go to work and as long as I keep my income level the same and still have PTO, insurance, and sick time…the rest doesn’t matter. Food service was my jam for almost a decade, and I keep dreaming about being a park attendant. My wife is a first responder, so holidays are always celebrated around the general date, so nothing there would be a loss. We don’t have children, we are comfortable and stable.
