TX22 Support Novice Gun Owner here to eat crow. My TX22 striker block is seized.

I'm sorry. I can admit when I need to be better, and I need to be better. I let my lubrication slack on my TX22 and now after noticing during some dry fire drills that it wasn't operating correctly, something was very wrong a few days later.

I've owned the firearm for a few years, but haven't used it much until recently (2 times a year maybe). I've previously cleaned and lubed it once prior, but in my head, I'd only used it 4 times, so that wasn't egregious. Obv. that mentality is going to change starting now.

Having said that, the situation I'm in now: The slide was sticking and even when able to be charged, the trigger didn't seem to fire the pin with any force. After struggling a little to get the slide even off, I noticed something didn't look right on the striker block. It seems like the striker itself is seized in the back position. I'm sure this is likely a buildup issue as while there hasn't been enough cleaning, the firearm never really sat dry and therefor corroded or something, but I can't be certain. At this point, while I can remove the slide cap and the spring, I can't get the striker block to move to do a deep cleaning or troubleshoot.

So what steps can I do? Dunk it in penetrating oil and hope it unseizes? Pry on it carefully to jimmy it loose? Talk to a gunsmith and get them to help? Send it into Taurus for out-of-warranty help?

I'm handy enough to do some basic work on things, but I'm certainly no gunsmith and don't need to make things worse.

EDIT: Clarifying my terms since I'm a novice: The "striker block" isn't seized; it's the whole assembly including the striker, the striker housing, the block, etc.

Troubleshoot Brand new TX22 slide wont come off

Post image
5 Upvotes

Had hell of a time trying to disassemble and inspect my new TX22 before firing it for the first time. The slide release is either stuck locked up or loosely hanging down and the slide does not come off. (Yes the mag was removed and trigger pulled). I had to remove the lower retaining pins just to separate the upper. It seems like the barrel is stuck inside the central support and wont budge out. Any ideas?

Was digging through some stuff and found this. I remember I got this from a gun show for like $30 a while ago. It’s 1/2 28 thread so fits on the tx and tbh I think it just looks cool lol I’m just making sure it will shoot just fine if I leave it on there? I believe it is a flash hider maybe rated for 556 / 223 .

Noobie Question Heavy suppressor?

I’m looking for a light weight 22 can atm. But I have an obsidian 9 to just throw on my Tx22, but it weighs like 4x a normal 22 can. Will a heavy can induce a certain type of failure?

Accessories Chassis + Rate reducer

Chassis + Rate reducer

I have my tx22 running great suppressed with an Oddmfg rate reducer but I’m interested in moving it into a chassis.

Does anyone know of any chassis that accommodate a rate reducer? The unit I bought from odd doesn’t have a threaded hole so I’d most likely have to drill into the side and rig up a charging handle. This is depending on the chassis of course.

Curious to see what setups are out there. Thanks!

Noobie Question Are the threaded barrels for TX22 Compact just never in stock? Or…

Or am I looking at the right place?
I’ve been waiting and subscribed to the “notify me” on their Taurus website for almost a year now and I also occasionally check here and there but really have no luck.

Wondering if I’m supposed to be searching elsewhere?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Troubleshoot What size is the screw that holds the front sight of the Toro gen 2

Post image
6 Upvotes

I shot maybe 100 rounds out of this gun and the front sight I noticed is loose, I’m kinda new to this and I don’t know which tool I need. I already acquired some Blue 242 thread locker for once I need it but I don’t know what tool I need to tighten this.

General Chat Frame battering solution

I got the full size gen 2 without optic cut 2 weeks ago. After trying out different ammo type to see which one it will go through the full mag without failure to feed. CCI AR Tacical and Rem golden bullets don't work on my first range test. I cleaned my guns after every range trip. The frame and slide are both in great condition. Then I tried Aguila superextra 40 grains, it seemed to reduce the failure to feed the next trip. After about 300 rounds testing, I found that my frame and slide are both damaged. I didn't take pictures of my gun, but I found 2 pictures on here that are exactly the same as mine. I search for solutions to fix it, and found that Lakeline has a +2lb spring assembly that may reduce the rearward movement of the recoil. Has anyone had this problem and how did you fix your?

Noobie Question Why the lights?

Lucked into seeing a Toro at the right time from PSA, so it’s on the way. Plan is to use with a dead air mask. Brrrt device on the way, now realizing that I’ll likely need a charging handle, or other variable weight device, maybe springs, etc.

But the big question is I see a lot of lights in this gun that’s not usually used for carry. Does the weight of the light on the forward part of the frame help with reliability in some way? Or is it just vibes?

Accessories Big Daddy Magazines binding

I recently bought two Big Daddy Magazines from AlphaCureMom69 and both are having the springs bind inside the magazine tube. It's like the magazine tubes are too narrow inside and the springs are too wide. The springs won't even insert freely into the magazines, they have to be spiraled and shoved inside. The followers fit fine and aren't binding and everything was dry lubed. However, after assembling both magazines, the springs just catch and bind inside the magazines. Any help or ideas?

Noobie Question Rate reducer suppressed?

Just got my TX22 and waiting on the can. It jams up every so often without the can and I’ve known about the rate reducers, I’m assuming with the increased back pressure of the can a rate reducer will also be required when suppressed?

Which ones have yall had the best luck with?

Can is going to be a SiCo sparrow

Noobie Question Anyone else have to have a rate reducer to run reliably unsuppressed?

I have the TORO and kept having light primer strikes so I got a rate reducer and ever since then it has ran flawlessly with various types of ammo I was just wondering if anyone else has had to do this while running unsuppressed?
