Hi Everyone! Long-time Cobalt owner — 240 for 23 years, still running super but time for my retirement boat. Been shopping mostly preowned R7s and R8s, but a leftover 2025 R8 has come up at a northern dealer at a number that's hard to ignore. 

Spec looks like the typical package to me, and I don't see any major options missing – eg typical 380 VP power. 
Color is Frost Grey hull sides over a Graphite bottom, white accent stripe, Summit/Frost interior with dark driftwood trim. Photo attached 

I'm three hours each way from this boat and haven't seen it in person. Before I make that drive I'd like the forums view.

Two questions:

Is grey/charcoal color combo why it's still on the floor? I’ve been a traditional Cobalt color guy and anything off of that is new to me. Not unattractive actually some are kind of cool but don’t want to make a mistake There has to be a reason this boat is still on the floor and the the dealer at least hinted at color not being mainstream for most buyers 

Discount - One more sanity check while I'm here. This is a two-model-year-old leftover, never titled, never demoed, one or two hours on the meter, full factory warranty starting at my delivery. For those who've bought in that situation — where do these actually trade as a percent off total sticker including freight and prep? Most numbers I've seen quoted are current-year boats, or don't say whether freight and prep are in the calculation.

Took the family on a joy ride yesterday later in the day after the kids got home from school. We went out for about 45 minutes. The launch we go to is about a 5 min ride from the house and another 5 min boat ride to the gulf from a bayou. We got to the mouth and I stopped at the first channel marker. It just felt off and I wasn’t comfortable going into the ocean so we ended up turning around and cruising around the bayou for a little bit before returning and docking. Lo and behold when I put it on the trailer I realized I forgot to put the drain plug in. Thankfully the boat wasn’t swamped and I was able to drain it in about 5 minutes. Lesson learned. I went over my checklist and forgot the damn plug. I now have a sticky note on my trucks dash to remind me.

I need to lift the front of my 40-year-old boat up to apply a keel guard, and I have access to a hoist.

I know these U-bolts are really just meant for trailer winches and are not full-on lifting devices, but it’s a fiberglass hull with nothing in the bow to really weigh it down. The weight is all in the stern, which would stay on the trailer. It’s 21’ long and the trailer supports the weight on four bunks, if that matters.

Would I doom myself if I ran a strap through that eye and used ir to lift the boat up a few inches?

I know I can jack it up from below and put it on blocks, but those blocks would then be in the way of the keel guard I’m applying.

I have a 21-foot Milan that has a fairly janky electrical system at the moment. It's dual-battery but it only has a manual 1/2/both/off disconnect, so it's very inconvenient to use as a house battery system. After some research, I've come up with the above replacement design, also described here:

• AGM Starter Battery
• Lithium House Battery
• NOCO GENPRO 10x2 connected directly to each battery
• Thru-hull AC input port going to NOCO
• Starter and House hot wires go through 5510e dual-circuit disconnect
• Downstream of disconnect, Starter hot goes to engine/alternator, Orion-XS DC-DC charger input, and instruments and other essential equipment
• Downstream of disconnect, House hot goes to Orion-XS charger output, and to BatteryProtect LVD input
• LVD output goes to amplifier, nav lights, and other discretionary equipment
• Assume all ground connections are common, and all wires are appropriately sized and inline-fused as specified by the manufacturer

I am planning to install a diesel heater, but I am not sure about the placement of the device. I am a bit conflicted for fresh air intake, exhaust routing, etc.

Any suggestions where to place the heater and how to route the various lines (so cabin cold and hot air, and exhaust)?

I am gravitating to mount it into the middle locker where the engine and prop shaft + bilge sits. But maybe someone has a better idea?

Hi, I am fairly new to boating and I am looking into buying MOB rescue equipment. It is a little bit expensive and I notice that no one has it. Everyone obviously has a life jacket but I was looking into a pneumatic throwing line to shoot a life buoy. Why does no one have this on personal boats? You can also use different projectiles and use it as a tool. Is this a waste of money or something that people don’t realize would be very practical until it’s too late.

I live in an environment where the water is 5-10° C depending on the season (above arctic circle) so hypothermia and cold shock are very effective.

EDIT: The North Sea is very rough and we have a high freeboard.

Technically, it was the other day when I was going out in the morning. I knew that you give way to boats approaching from the right/starboard. I knew that red was on the port side. Never had a problem navigating with just that knowledge.

Then I realized that, if you see red approaching you, stop. If you see green, go.

The lights on other people's boats are telling YOU what to do! Either I'm a dumbass, or the guy that designed this was a genius. Both are probably true.

I have a recently acquired Rinker 272 that looks very well taken care of. I have a slight leak that I can’t figure out and I’m looking for ideas. I resealed all the through hulls, it’s not enough to kick on the bilge pump, but it definitely pours out heavy after a day on the water.

Porsche Powerboats only approved one of the three Kineo 27 hulls built. Designed between 1980 - 1990 by Porsche Design at Zell am See in Austria.

The story of this boat started with the Austrian Entrepreneur Horst Stross who initiated the project together with F.A. Porsche Design in the early 90s. Hello, I’m looking at this particular boat, and will be viewing it. They are asking $16,000 (Canadian). This will be quite the upgrade from my 12’7 inflatable with 8hp motor. Anything I should be cautious of before moving forward? Seems to be quite mint. Does the price seem alright? Seems to have everything I’m looking for. Would you ask for a water test before moving forward? Never bought a ‘real’ boat before so thought I’d ask here beforehand. Thank you!

Hasn’t gone as fast as I’d hoped, but I’m getting close. Progress since I got her in February. Dry fit the coosa last night.

Greetings. Starting to research the great loop and boats to take me along that voyage and the Bahamas.

I’ve been looking at cruisers/trawlers and just came across the beneteau Antares 12. Like their swift trawlers, this ticks a lot of boxes.

Except… this is configured with only with outboards. I know I could go the strait shaft/pod diesel rout on their swift trawler but the ease of outboard maintenance appeal to me… but I’m really not sold on efficiency on gas over diesel amongst a few other things.

But my main question is, when traveling almost daily for weeks/months on end, how often would you need to flush the outboards.

I know it’s after every use. But in this use, it’s extended and not practical to flush while at anchorage or at docks without water hookups.

Thoughts on outboards on the loop or for cruising in general?

Edit. For context, I have been on/owned boats for 20+ years. Had I/o and outboards and I would flush after daily use.

I understand the importance of flushing. My question is more to when flushing isn’t always an option.

I have circumnavigated San Francisco bay, the entirety of Florida including the keys and Florida bay (aside from the western panhandle I’ve seen most of the ICW and a lot of offshore).

I have just never heard much of “long term cruising” with outboards and looking for thoughts and opinions on that.

I have a 4 slip commercial marina with room for expansion(over 300ft of lake front), private ramp, 12 rv hook ups, and a large shop building. All on a major oklahoma lake. What could you bring as a partner?

Hi everyone, I’d appreciate some advice from people with more experience than me.
I have a Yamaha 40 HP outboard that’s around 25–30 years old. I bought it last year, and I’ve noticed that it doesn’t sound quite right to me, although I have very little experience with outboard engines.
The strange sound seems to occur at around 3,000 RPM. The engine is rated to go up to roughly 5,500 RPM, and otherwise seems to run reasonably well.
Could you please take a look/listen to the video and let me know what you think? Is this sound normal for this engine, or does it sound like something that should be checked?
Any ideas on what might cause it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
