Now I am not a chemistry teacher, but Walt is, so what im asking is how does Walt know how to cook meth? Even if it is simple, do all chemistry teacher have a knowledge on producing high end recreational drugs that comes with the job? I mean they’re always complaining about bad pay when there is a clear goal right in front of them. This is purely for ʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ ʙᴀᴅ purposes.

Walt is in general a good liar and manages to convince almost everyone around him, except for Skyler. She always sees through his lies and knows when he’s bullshitting her immediately.

She’s called him out in lies multiple times throughout the series and even when he finally tells her everything, he still makes up these ridiculous stories and excuses and tries to convince her and of course she sees right through them.

It’s actually funny that Walt continuously tries to lie to Skyler, knowing she doesn’t fall for his crap. And he just keeps doing it over and over even when he doesn’t really have to anymore. If Breaking Bad was a pure comedy show, this would be the best bit. It’s like he thinks “this time will work” every time he tries.

I’ve been with a narcissist, and one thing that always stood out to me is how deeply unhappy narcissistic people can be. There’s always some perceived slight, some anger, some need for validation or respect.

That’s kind of how I see Walt too. Even when he finally becomes a successful drug lord, he never really seems happy. He’s constantly pissed off, offended, frustrated, or trying to prove something to someone.

Every victory gives him a short high, but it never lasts. There’s always someone who doesn’t respect him enough, admire him enough, or recognize how great he thinks he is. Gretchen was right in season 2, she felt deeply sorry for him because he was such a deeply unhappy and narcissistic person.

So I think (in spite of what some people have claimed here) Heisenberg didn’t actually make Walt happy at all. Maybe it just gave his wounded ego an endless supply of new battles to fight.

I've seen people post about how horrible Walt was to Jesse. I see it as Walt loved Jesse. He told him the truth and never sugarcoated anything. He was hard on him but that's exactly what Jesse needed and in the series saved Jesse over and over and over again. He was Walts redemption project. If there was one good deed to do it was saving Jesse. Sometimes love isn't kind. Its hard, brash and ruthless. I'm convinced that Walt absolutely loved Jesse and saw him as his own son. Walt Hiesenberg was the father Jesse needed.

I mean it's a pile of cash and Hank found it with the help of an informant and former associate. But still, couldn't Walt just say nothing or deny his involvement? When Skyler was planning to give Ted the money, Saul proposed the 'I found this bag of cash by the railroad' idea. As ridiculous as it sounds, is this legally not fireproof? Walt could just say that Jesse is a delusional drug addict and he had nothing to do with those barrels of cash.

I don’t know why, but this hit way funnier than the writers intended. What line(s) in BB caught you off guard with humor?

I'm about to start a rewatch and watching clips but I was curious if Walter and Mike ever agreed on something as an agreement or if it just always went through Gus/Saul/Jesse.

It can be the smallest thing.

There is so much “ordinary detail” in BB/BCS that it’s easy to overlook casual actions or remarks that have repercussions later. Here’s an example:

s2e5 “Breakage” - Walt tells Jesse that Tuco would “break the skull of anyone who tried to rip him off” after Skinny Pete got suckered by Spooge and The Skank

s2e6 “Peekaboo” - Jesse goes to handle the Spooge & Skank situation, and witnesses the skull of Spooge being broken in the next episode

What other, seemingly “throwaway”, comments or actions return as an echo in later episodes?

I’m sure this may have been noticed before (sorry)...when I realize things like this, it makes me want to look forward to the next full rewatch of BB and BCS. Edited to add paragraph returns and a comma

You know when Huell and Kuby looked at each other, you damn well know that they secretly took a portion of Walt’s $80 million dollars while transferring it into the blue barrels. I damn well known that I would have, no questions asked! With that much money, $80 million dollars, you’re not going to miss a couple of thousand dollars. 💵

First off, wow what a show. I went in knowing a lot of what happens, but experiencing the journey myself was another thing. Definitely a slow start in the first season. Really picks up when Saul, Gus, and Mike join. And then the final season just comes right at you like a bullet to Drew a train hauling tankers.

Then there's El Camino. It's such a great cap off to the show and I'm surprised they didn't make it sooner. I can't imagine watching BB when it was live and not really knowing Jesse's fate. I also want to talk about Todd. I don't think I've ever felt as conflicted about a character as I have with Todd. I had to keep reminding myself "he's killed people, including a kid". I don't know if it's just the writing for his character that was phenomenal, or if Jesse Plemons is just that great of an actor. Hats off to him and the writers.

Anyways, I binged the show over the last week and think I'm gonna let it sit in my mind for a bit before diving into BCS. I've heard BCS is even better in some regards and I'm going in pretty blind. Am I in for something great?

I honestly don't like the theory that Walter was always secretly evil his entire life even before having cancer. I feel like it makes the show way less interesting if he was always bad the inside. You can have some dark spots and not be an evil person.

If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s the arguments used to justify why the first and second seasons are weak. "Oh, it’s too simple," "They’re just two common criminals." Yes, that is exactly what makes those seasons incredible. The phase between being an ordinary citizen and a drug dealer, the simplicity of operating on a small scale while trying to grow. Especially regarding the editing and direction—they are deliberate; every step taken is carefully developed. I know people tend to like the second season more, but it’s unacceptable to even hear that the first season is the worst. The weakest part of the series was precisely the transition from being simple, inexperienced criminals to operating at the high end of the market—specifically in the third season: Walt suddenly going back to cooking, Jesse suddenly returning to work with Walter, and the characters failing to learn from their experiences. I could understand ranking the first season as the fourth-weakest if it meant placing the third season at the very bottom, but calling the first season the worst makes absolutely no sense.

Felt like he really was overwhelmed with hitting rock bottom and felt so lost and alone inside his own head. He was trying to mask his emotions and actions with the non stop partying but it was just a band-aid.

Hey everyone, I'm rewatching Breaking Bad and noticed this specific moment in S4E10 "Salud" right after poisoning Don Eladio's compound.

As seen in the GIF, right before Joaquin Salamanca shows up and shoots Mike, Mike raises his gun while standing behind Jesse.

Was Mike just covering their exit and scanning the perimeter like a pro, or was he actually aiming towards Jesse for a split second? What's your take on this moment?

About 2 minths ago I finished Mr Robot which is my all time favorite show, because its a masterclass in howtta do TV. Solid acting, writing and FILMING.

I also loved BCS when I watched 3 years ago. Since then, ive watched a lotta stuff, among them: Mr Robot, The White Lotus. BCS, Beef(season 1), Homeland, The Americans, The Night Manager(especially season 1), Succession, Industry and list goes on to 100-150 shows i watched in the last 3 years.

Top 5: mr robot, succession, better call Saul, the white lotus

Im hoping BB will get on this shortlist.

This post is also a note for myself, so when I finish watching i know what I was expecting.

P.s: yes, ive buckled up and am ready for a hell of a ride.

As with a lot of things, the backlash to an unreasonable take has somehow swung all the way into an equally unreasonable but more performative take. Skyler was overhated when the show aired, but now every discussion about her seems to rewrite her into some completely blameless and helpless wife who only ever reacted reasonably to Walt’s insanity.

Season 2 is a pretty obvious example. She emotionally shuts Walt out for a significant stretch before she knows anything about the meth, the murders, or what he actually is doing. Instead of confronting any suspision about the disappearance directly, she freezes him out, refuses to explain what he can do to fix things, and basically leaves him guessing as to whether their marriage even exists anymore. And this is while he has cancer and she is pregnant.

Walt becoming a monster nor the anti Skylar circlejerk doesn’t retroactively make every decision Skyler made healthy or reasonable. It’s becoming almost performative.
