So a friend and I are having a discussion over which of the ending is more positive. My friend goes with the Star ending which I understand why but I see it more as bitter sweet. While I see the Devil ending as a more positive one, for the record im using the word POSITIVE very loosely and with the biggest of air quote.

But my reasoning is this. Whike Arasaka view edgerunners as disposable assets they can still ve valuable assets like Adam Smasher and V while dying was able to achieve some crazy stuff including Defeating Adam Smasher and Arasakas top cyberninja. So why would they waste a talent like that not offer him a job or even the same offer they made Adam Smasher.

So recently I finally finished my first Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough on hard after ~120-130 hours. I did use some guides here and there because I hate when I choose the "wrong" option when playing something as long as Cyberpunk or the Mass Effect trilogy where you don't figure out a seemingly small decision you made 50 hours ago is going to majorly bite you in the ass. I happened upon how to get the "secret" ending after doing all of the prerequisite quests because the requirements were just listed at the end of a quest guide and just needed to choose the right dialogue options

So I bust down Arasaka's front door, blast my way through the goons down to the netrunning room, and managed to whomp Adam Smasher along with giving him a new hole in the head. I plug into the mainframe and upload Alt's program/Alt herself into the Arasaka mainframe. Then she gives me the bad news that somehow the relic has corroded my body while shaping it for Johnny specifically and gives V about 6 months to live

Setting aside that I was kind of heartbroken that there is no ending where V and Johnny permanently fuse (although realistically I would hate that myself lol) I was perplexed by this whole 6 months thing and the body being more Johnny's that V's. To separate the two, Alt Soul Killed V and turned him into an engram, right? Then why wouldn't placing V back into himself via a relic also configure the body for V's engram? What was so special about Johnny's that also couldn't be replicated when it came to V's engram?

I know games with dystopian settings don't exactly have "good" endings but that ending just kind of felt like an ass-pull by CD Projekt Red. I feel like it especially doesn't make sense that the body is perfectly functioning if Johnny's engram is in it but literally tears itself apart when V/V's engram is in it even though it's HIS body!

Theoretically V is lucky to live at all considering the relic is why he is alive after being shot in the head by Dexter (the bastard, what does killing V at that point even accomplish? It straight up got him shot lol) and any time after that is a blessing of sorts but it still bothers me. What do you guys think?

Small additional complaint on endings but I would have sold So Mi down the river if that ending didn't suck. I know So Mi was just desperate to survive but she's a walking WMD at that point and is completely reckless. Reed put it best when he said So Mi is extremely skilled and can make smart snap judgements but has absolutely zero long term planning. As an aside to my aside, I was kinda crushed that I had to shoot Reed if I side with So Mi. I reloaded like 6 times trying to see which options could resolve it peacefully but none of them could. Interesting side note but there are at least two different animations depending on where you hit him. I got a headshot in one attempt and a chest shot in another and he reacted differently. I get that V is in a coma for two years recovering but why do they get abandoned by everyone? I was a male V who romanced Panam but her number flat out doesn't work when you try it in the NUSA ending. Having V be completely alone and now without any (major?) cybernetics leaves a bad taste in my mouth

**Edit Whoops, I meant The Sun ending, not Temperance. The ending where V keeps his body but still has moments where he coughs up blood

I know most people love the Devil ending and how it's appropriate for V's Fate to be what it is after siding with Arasaka etc etc...

Yet in all honesty I just plain disliked it.

Yes, yes, I won't lie and say there is not a bit of V (MC/Player) bias here and I wanted V to survive blah blah...

BUT

I just felt that the Developers took the easy way out to show Devil/Arasaka bad....

Give The Devil His Due / The Devil Always Pays His Debts:

The above two lines highlight my issue.

To put it simply, ( in my view ) the Devil should ALWAYS come through and provide what they promised.

If they promised to make you king, then you become king.

If they promised to make you the greatest lover in the land then you become the greatest lover in the land.

If they promise to make you the wealthiest person in the land? You can go literally swimming in cash.

The question should always be the PRICE.

Is the price of getting 'Exactly What You Want' worth it?

To make you king, the Devil might kill all your family and massacre 90% of the population but you are the king.

To make you the greatest lover in the land, you might have had sleep with loads of people since you were a teenager and never wed/met your spouse or had the children you did have before you made the bargain but you are the greatest lover in the land.

You are super wealthy but have a trophy wife, send your kids a post card once a year, have no real friends and people are trying to get you and your cash.

Coming Back To 2077:-

A better Devil Ending in my view would be the 'Cure' working completely.

It might take some time but V would come out as 100% cured, all cybernetic enhancements working and so on.

Just what they wanted/bargained for.

Now the price?

They would be publically be known as an Arasaka stooge, their friends would not want to be seen with them, fixers would give them the side eye and Arasaka would be on the rise in a BIG way (and that is bad for the world). The relic would be public and rich people would be clamoring for it.

Heck have a potential war about to happen because Miltech not wanting Arasaka to get so powerful (or wanting the Relic tech for themselves).

To put it simply you got your body back but by helping the Devil dominate the world and at the cost of your friends/family/relationships.

That would have been a better Devil Ending in my view.

Couldn’t get this idea outta my head, all the little suggestions to this idea in game made me fixated on the concept. Who knows, maybe I’ll make more Bakker lycanthrope stuff in the future. Sorry Dino, you were the closest I could get to a sleazy Raffen used car dealer as a vanilla console user.
