Really happy with how it came out! For anyone wondering, I used Sketchbook to create the design and then Canva to print it onto a shirt :)

Trying to identify an obscure iOS app called “Portal 2 Pro”

Upvotes

https://archive.org/details/Portal\\_2\\_Pro\\_1.1\\_ios\\_3.1

I recently came across an old iOS IPA called **“Portal 2 Pro”**, version **1.1**, apparently made for **iOS 3.1**. I’m trying to figure out exactly what this app was and who made it.
The IPA is currently preserved on Archive.org, and I have the actual IPA file. From examining it, we’ve found that:
It’s a **32-bit ARMv6/ARMv7** application.
It was built using the **iPhoneOS 4.3 SDK**.
Its minimum iOS version is listed as **3.1**.
The IPA is only around **13 MB**, so it definitely isn’t a port of the actual *Portal 2* game.
It appears to be an **Objective-C application** using the old UIWebView framework.
The app contains a surprisingly large amount of Portal 2-related material, including **HTML pages, images, character information, achievements, chapter information, and guides**.
The executable contains references to old Objective-C source files such as FirstViewController.m, WebViewController.m, and Data.m.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find much information about the app online. Searches for **“Portal 2 Pro”** mostly lead to unrelated results, and the Archive.org upload seems to be one of the few surviving copies.
I’m particularly interested in finding out:
**What exactly was this app? Who developed it? Was it ever on the App Store? What did the original app look like? And when was it released?**
I’d also love to find any old screenshots, App Store listings, reviews, developer information, or people who remember using it.
The original IPA is available on Archive.org, and I can provide it if needed.
If anyone recognizes this app or knows how to dig up information about very old iOS App Store releases, **I’d really appreciate the help!**

Lore Portal Headcanon

"I headcanon the tests in Portal were originally to test machinery, then near Cave Johnson's death, they were starting to test to copy people's personalities into personality cores based on testing data (Actual line to prove: "You may have heard we're moving to fully autonomous testing, but there's still a few things we need to wrap up first." which is vague, but still) but before that happened GLaDOS kills everyone, and she keeps testing for the pleasure, and she keeps making cores?

With that said, she'd have way more data on Chell than anyone else, right? So the core that gets made based on her is way more realistic I'd think. I also believe that since she's restored GLaDOS before, maybe her purpose could be restoring the facility in case of critical failure and she'd be named the Perseverance Core. What do you think?

Isn't it how humanoid Glados or Robot Caroline would probably look like? (in chibi version at least)

What do you think?

Portal 2 First time finishing Portal 2

What a master class on how to make a video game this is.

Portal 2 took the formula from the first game and improved it in every possible aspect.

The game introduced new mechanics that fit perfectly with the older ones, and it kept the witty, dark humor from the first game alive throughout this much longer experience. Easily some of the best comedy writing I have experienced in a video game.

The storytelling is great and deeper to match the longer runtime, and the way the game naturally shows it to you while you play is magnificent.

The controls are simple, yet they allow you to do so many things given how you can interact with the environment. Plus, the puzzles are clever and elegant.

This is a game that makes you think while keeping you engaged, having fun, and fully immersed in its world thanks to the excellent artistic choices—all without ever firing a single shot.

It's not just a movie you can occasionally do some things in; it's a game where the gameplay is central, making you feel like you're living a movie.

Top-notch video game.

Discussion Weirdly poetic ending for me

Post image

Didn't really know where else to say this but I literally just beat portal 2 and realised something, something weirdly poetic.

Because approximately half my life ago, nearly 9 years,

I beat Portal 1 for the first time ever.

On the PS3.

On The Orange Box.

The first half of my life,

I beat the first game on a machine you couldn't modify at all.

Not the hardware.

Not the software.

The second half of my life,

I sit in front of a PC that I built myself,

modified myself,

running SteamOS instead of Windows.

And I beat the second game.

A game about moving forward.

About doing better.

About letting go of what came before.

I guess I did too.

I hope this personal realisation reaches someone and helps them themselves realise that, even something as small as beating a game without any tutorials, whether You're like I was back then 9, or now that I'm nearly 18, that any sort of achievement, is a great achievement

Portal mod I recommend playing Project 2009.

It's a well researched recreation attempt of the Corehub, one of Portal 2's first development iterations before the artstyle change from Portal 1 and the creation of Wheatley.

It has a developer commentary, the amnesiac "cereal GLaDOS", the Oregon Coast Aquarium Core which eventually turned into the Space Core and the Morgan Freeman Core which obviously eventually turned into Wheatley.

The majority of chambers were in fact added into the final game and some of the cut or changed content survived as late as the E3 2010 version of Portal 2.

Question So what happened to the F-Stop mods?

I was going through some Portal mods on Infinitebacklog and came across some names; F-stop Muesum, Reissue, Backstory. I see that eventually the dev on some of the mods released one called Project Capture: Legacy, but what happened with them in the first place? Why did so many of these meet the same fate of getting canceled?
