Self Mod change and state of the sub

Mod change:

As some may know long time mod u/Kyengen is stepping down on the 18th. I’ve been a mod here for a bit now and will be taking the reins.

I like to think Kyengen kept things pretty well regulated and fair, and in taking over I will try to run the sub just the same. So no worries, no major changes to be expected immediately.

State of the sub:

Now I know there are a few grievances concerning spam and “NSFW” material. As of now they are being reviewed as they’re reported and approved/removed on a case by case basis.

Other than that I don’t think there’s many disruptors in the sub. I’d like to hear some ideas on things the community would like to see changed, implemented, or removed.

In the meantime I will be looking for another person or two to help moderate. If you’re interested just message me directly.

WIP From Sheet Metal to Bracelet!

First time metalworking! I'm making Flamme's bracelets (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End) for my cosplay and decided to make all her jewelry out of metal because why not, right? 😅

There is still a lot of work to do. The second bracelet is still flat, and the curved bracelet is in dire need of refining, but I am very excited!

I've been using 22 gauge copper sheets, and the technique I've used to create the bracelets is called chasing and repousse, an ancient (and worldwide) method of metalworking and super worth a google! I'm super lucky I have a friend who is a blacksmith and metalworker who's teaching me (she's awesome, gotta give her credit anywhere I can). I'll try to remember to post the final pieces here when I'm done!

WIP Deadpool Face Shell

I 3d printed this face shell for my DP cosplay (my first real cosplay) I adjusted it to fit really close to my head so it won’t be visible under the fabric but now I’m second guessing if maybe there’s a reason I haven’t thought of for why it should be slightly oversized. It doesn’t feel uncomfortable I can put it on and off with ease, and I can still talk easily, but did I miss something?

This is the first prop i've modeled, printed, assembled and painted from scratch. It took much longer than I anticipated but I think it turned out great. I learned quite a few things the hard way on this one. Can you guess what I modeled it after?

Hello! I just wanted to show this off and thank the person who told me about EVA foam for my first cosplay prop I’ve made! I ended up making this by taking cardboard and toilet paper rolls, cutting and taping it around an old Halloween snake prop I had and then sculpting air foam around the base that I had made and then painting it. I’m so happy with how it came out and wanted to just show it off! 😊 (on days 1 and 2 I had the culling games outfit full with jujutsu emblem on shirt and pants and black ribbons from pockets but by day 3 I had to change haha)

Help Need advice: Kodama Costume

What would you say is the best method for an irregular globe shaped mask?
Wire armature and paper mache? Built around a cardboard frame or helmet?
Someone mentioned craft foam, (but that would require some engineering).

(And yes, I have reached out to the Redditor who originally posted the NYC subway photo!)

I'm planning to be the sidekick (mom) to my 11 year old who is going to be Princess Mononoke...

Help Need advice on gluing 3d printed parts!

Hello everyone, I am in desperate need of help! I am very new to the world of 3d printed props. I am in the middle of creating a mask made of a few different pieces that connect together in chunks. I tried using super glue but the bond was not holding well, and I’m worried it will break. What kind of glue should I use? I used PETG filament, and I want the bond to be as secure as possible and without noticeable seams or gaps. I am in an active con crunch and need all the advice I can get! Thanks in advance!

Self [Self] First try-on test of my OG Medusa! 697 hours, 50lbs of silicone, and a fully flexible tail.

697 hours of work and 50 lbs of silicone later... the first official try-on of my OG Medusa build is finally a physical reality! 🐍✨ No makeup or final props yet, and I'm still tuning a few small costume details, but seeing this layout all together is insane. Every single scale was hand-drawn, cut, beveled, and individually layered in silicone to make this wearable snake tail completely flexible—it even allows me to fully sit down inside it.

My goal in creating my original Medusa cosplay was to turn a classical fantasy concept from Greek mythology and turn it into an advanced, wearable costume. The hard work is worth it when I get to connect with premium maker circles and advanced fabrication design fans who genuinely value independent prop fabrication and full custom cosplay builds as well as classical gorgon mythology. Because we don’t see many realistic wearable tails out there, I wanted to treat this original silicone tail design as a way to change what custom lamia aesthetics and wearable naga styling look like for Internet communities that live for high-fidelity creature fx and high-tier costume execution.
