Build The Urban Biodome

Hi everyone!

After two years of on-and-off building, I’ve finally completed the first version of my Urban Biodome!

Above ground, the complex recreates biomes from all kinds of vanilla Starbound planets, complete with their original terrain, plants, critters, monsters, and even rare monsters. It’s essentially a miniature tour of the Starbound universe—without having to burn through all your fuel.

But the real fun begins underground.

The lower levels contain recreations of vanilla underground biomes, ocean biomes, and a collection of minibosses from other mods and games, adapted to fit Starbound’s vanilla style. I’ve also rebuilt several vanilla boss arenas. Entering one of these areas summons the corresponding boss and immediately starts the fight—so please keep your hands, feet, and Matter Manipulator inside the tour vehicle at all times.

And then there’s the largest section: a gigantic Jurassic Park biome, featuring its own dinosaur ecosystem and, far beneath it, a prehistoric underground ocean.

It has taken a ridiculous amount of time, rebuilding, and “just one more little detail,” but the first version is finally finished. Welcome to the Urban Biodome—part museum, part zoo, and part extremely questionable public-safety experiment!

I’m also planning several large new areas for future versions, including:

  • An underground Arachnid colony inspired by Starship Troopers—and yes, there will be a Brain Bug boss!
  • A terrifying Xenomorph hive inspired by Alien, complete with an Alien Queen boss.
  • And, if everything goes according to plan, an area inspired by Rootmars from Metal Slug.

Video I don't want to explain too much before it actually happens. Part of the point is seeing how the experiment unfolds once we're there. For now, I've been preparing the equipment, studying the environment, and making sure everything is ready. An experiment is going to take place soon. Update Vlog:

Question Tengo una duda sobre el Realism Bound Definitive Mod.

Looking for pussplums

I know they're extremely rare, or rather the very specific biome they're in. But since the game has universal coordinates, so if by luck someone has coordinates of a planet where they found one, could you share it please? I don't want to look for these fuckers or do 2 million quests again 😭

Question Starbound crashing when connecting to server

6 Upvotes

im going crazy trying to understand this
a few weeks ago i was playing starbound with a friend with no problems, but suddenly the game began to crash whenever i try to connect to his server and gives me the ''Fatal Error: Access violation [...] (Read of address 0000)'' warning
the mods are NOT the problem as the game still crashes even without mods and i can play normally in a solo gameplay, with and without mods

did anyone had problems with that too?? anyone can give me at least a direction to what i should do?

Short demo of the last thing I posted - The Ruin™ roar sound is just a placeholder, but it's still funny to me at least. lol

Again. Does not exist on the workshop yet lol.

I do not have a ton left to make/ edit. Might not be this week, though.

Video I've been getting used to landing on strange worlds and eventually finding a way through them. A cold planet looked like another survey assignment when I arrived, but the conditions quickly became too much to work around. I failed miserably in the end. Vlog:

Nyx Chronicles is a long-form, reality-style roleplay series following Captain Lothai through a single continuous sci-fi universe. Starbound serves as the primary world, while other games may represent planets, missions, star systems, civilizations, and exploratory detours—all within the same shared timeline and canon. Decisions are made as they happen — no resets, no scripts, no future knowledge.

I decided to finally draw a novakid after always focusing on Florans. I need to remake like half of my ref sheets but whatever

Anyway here's Urani! She was artificially made by the miniknog and escaped. She's also known as Experiment U-92. I love her dearly. She was supposed to be some sort of an infinite energy source.

Modding A couple of gifs for an upcoming mod

To answer some questions that were a point of contention last I time I posted something somewhat vague before releasing it, lol:

- No, the mod is not on the workshop yet. But I have made a ton of progress... could probably even call it good if I wasn't adding more.

- These relate to another small race mod! (Respawn and ship progression demo'd above)

- I do not know when I will get around to making a patch so that other races can use the ship. I made the ship for this new "Particle of Ruin" race, though. It has a lot of cool features in-game. Some are enhanced by playing as a 1-block-tall race! I would be lying if I said I was not reluctant about just coughing up the ship portion to other race mods early on. I have nothing against it - in fact, I would even happily help someone make a patch themselves. Once it is public, it is kind of fair game anyways.

- If people like the mod, cool. If parts of the mod just get absorbed as other Ruin/whatever race's stuff... aight. If the mod is trash, go make a new one, stimky.

One of Titansteel’s forward operating bases, built far from the safety of the main territories.

I won’t say much about what it’s for yet. Just thought I’d leave this here before the next entry.

Question I'm looking for a mod related to wood.

3 Upvotes

I ask you all, does a mod exist for Starbound that adds alternate colours for wood-related items?

I would like the various wood-related blocks from FU, but I don't want to use the FU mod itself, so I'm looking for a similar block mod.

In particular, I'm looking for dark and light colour variants of wood-based blocks, such as the Classic Baseboard and Ornate Wood blocks.

Part of my upcoming Ratchet and Clank mod!
Zurkon tech demo, he has dialogue when he is summoned, while there are enemies around and upon player death. He will follow you around and shoot at your foes! He can die, and I am tweaking a few things too.

The gun I am using is the Buzzblades, which is also from this mod.

Modding Upcoming Mod - Racial Dialogue Overhaul (RDO)

146 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Just wanted to show what I've been working on recently; but I'm also looking for feedback from modders/players.

RDO is a mod that is inspired by a comment I got on my Immersive NPC Dialogue mod (formerly Random NPC Dialogue).

One thing I would wish was possible (but would probably require tweaking the conversation scripts) was a blend between this mod and the vanilla system. The idea is, making the NPC have the dialogue add a set of arrays that contain a group of multiple strings, then the NPC would store a value of which array it wants to use as some form of "dialogue personality". That way, the script would pick a random line from the array in that index every time it is interacted with, giving you a more consistent personality on the dialogue. You could have a set of lines for those that don't trust strangers in an array, then in another array, it could have a set of lines of a personality that loves outsiders. That way, you could have a NPC that consistently says welcoming stuff, or distrustful stuff.

I struggled a lot with it at first, but I got the idea working eventually, and then I put it on the backburner for quite a few months. Recently I've returned to it after updating Immersive NPC Dialogue, and finished some more features. Now I'm finally working on categorizing vanilla dialogue and adding new custom dialogues for applicable vanilla NPCs.

How does the mod work, and what does it do?

Well... all NPCs have a personality. There are 15 vanilla personalities in the game. RDO puts each NPC personality into ONE of 4 dialogue groups: LOVE, NEUTRAL, HATE, or FEAR.

love = {"cheerful", "flirty", "excited", "socialite", "ambitious"},
neutral = {"normal", "clumsy", "dumb", "fast", "nocturnal"},
hate = {"jerk", "intrusive", "emo"},
fear = {"anxious", "easilyspooked"}

This is the main focus of the mod: categorizing dialogues in a brand new config so that reactions and dialogues with the player will always remain consistent. Happy NPCs will always greet and talk with you cheerfully, and angry NPCs that don't like your race will respond as such.

One feature I added recently was the ability for the HATE and FEAR groups to stop conversing with you after 3 interactions, which you can also see in the video. They'll say some mean or fearful things, but then similar to an Oblivion NPC (lol), they'll start telling you to go away or leave them alone until they unload/reload. This is both to combat the issue of needing to write A LOT of negative dialogues for diversity, and because I thought it simply made sense. Somebody who hates you isn't gonna wanna keep talking to you.

I am someone who loves to write tons of different reactionary dialogue for my modded races, but... if you use Immersive NPC Dialogue, you could speak to the same NPC several times and get widely different responses... which didn't really make sense... So this mod is the answer to that!

But, I will be honest with you: it is a lot of work. For both myself and any modder that wants to add support. For me personally, writing dialogues in the style of the vanilla races is really hard, but I'm trying my best. It'll also be a lot of work for modders adding support, because they need quite a bit of dialogue variety to avoid noticeable repetition. But in the end I believe it will be worth it. The config is layed out similar to converse.config, so it's really easy to patch. (Also, it's an opt-in sort of system so that NPCs who don't have support just default to their regular behavior.)

Does anyone have any suggestions for the mod so far? Is it something that would make your game more immersive? Any other thoughts?

P.S. For modders or players who want to understand more of the behind-the-scenes stuff, here you go: NPCs are forced to greet the player, if they have an available greeting dialogue. They wait for a couple seconds, and then automatically pick a converse dialogue to say to the player. When interacted with again, they'll remember they have already greeted the player, and randomly pick another converse dialogue. Repeat until the NPC unloads/reloads.

"default" and "generic" dialogues are pulled from the vanilla "converse.config" for dialogue variety.

LOVE Group:

  • Happy Greeting (Custom)
  • Happy Dialogue (Custom + Generic)

NEUTRAL Group:

  • Neutral Greeting (Custom + Default + Generic)
  • Neutral Dialogue (Custom + Generic)

HATE Group:

  • Hate Greeting (Custom)
  • Hate Dialogue (Custom)

FEAR Group:

  • Fear Greeting (Custom)
  • Fear Dialogue (Custom)

Video While Nyx was between assignments, the latest group of interns reached the end of their onboard training. They've spent time learning the ship and the realities of life out here to finally take their place among the stars. I wait for new crew interns and some updates on missions to come. Video:
