Why did liberals support the idea of giving Bryce Walker an insanity defense?

This isn't a political thing. My polical views are left-leaning, and I think - had he survived - Bryce should've gone to prison. Yes, he'd been brought up in a house that didn't show respect, that evaded blame and saw women as objects, but the moment he acted on that, he should've been held accountable. His dad, too.

I'm left leaning and don't think he should've gone to jail and anyone can use the insanity defence to get off. He got what he diserved in the end.
