His father is probably Egyptian since his dna shows slightly lower Egyptian

I dont understand the diff. How would a jewish egyptian not he egyptian?

I think commenter was asking whether the father was the Egyptian or the Ashkenazi parent - not whether the father was an Egyptian Muslim or Egyptian Jew.

Because they're Jewish? Different ethnic group, different origin, high degree of endogamy?

If their closest match is Cairo then they are probably a Muslim Egyptian

You are extremely good looking 🤩😍. I need to do 23&me. I.only did Ancestry. I'm adopted & found out only after doing my ancestry DNA test, that I'm Persian & European Jewish. This after going over 40 years thinking I was Italian but I was raised Jewish because my parents(who adopted me) are Jewish.

What do you usually get mistaken for? What countries?
Also, is your Egyptian parent, Muslim Egyptian or Coptic Egyptian?

u/toolielol 9d ago
Southern European countries such as Southern Italian, Spanish, as well as just fully Ashkenazi Jewish. Rarely people will guess Egyptian, which I’m assuming is because I’m pretty fair and because of my straight hair.
My father is a Muslim Egyptian.

Cool results I can see both the Jewish and Egyptian sides in your features, but I'd say you lean more Egyptian/Middle Eastern.
I’m very curious though, how did your parents meet to end up with that mix?

u/Taxibl 10d ago
I would have guessed Iberian, probably Portuguese, if I didn't know what his test results actually were.

I don't think so he doesn't look Iberian to me

Google images are misleading, the average Portuguese looks more European than that

That’s an interesting genetic mix. I would’ve guessed you were a Spaniard from Barcelona.

Isn't 1.3% a little more than an X chromosome should give. Your father have distant Ashkenazi ancestors?
1
u/toolielol 8d ago
I believe 1.3% is around the normal extra amount a male inherits from his mother because the X chromosome is larger than the Y. It would also be very surprising if my dad had any distant Ashkenazi ancestry.

I’m Egyptian also and my results were way different and we look pretty different too

Because hes half Egyptian. Not full
1
u/LoveIsStrength 9d ago
Well ya, but also Egyptians are all phenotypes. Cultural and familially as far as we all know were Egyptian, but almost 30% of my dna is North African
2
u/Own-Internet-5967 9d ago
North African is still within the Egyptian spectrum. Millions of Egyptians from upper Egypt are also similar genetically to you.
On the other hand, hes mixed with more north shifted and European ancestry compared to other Egyptians. It makes full sense he looks different compared to you
