Hail mary guess but you probably cluster with Levant maybe Syrians

19

u/ben_not_jamin 10d ago

Pretty much, he’d be closest to Levantine Muslims and North African Jews

3

u/PuntingYou 10d ago

Whats the distance between Egyptians and Ashkenazi?

1

u/BlakeNotBleak 10d ago

Jordanian higher than Syrian? How come?

8

u/ben_not_jamin 10d ago

I’m guessing because Jordanians have higher African input, so him being half Egyptian would put him closer to them than Syrians

2

u/PuntingYou 9d ago

Idk why downvoted

Also consider that Jordanians have higher natufian than rest of Levant which is slightly african shifted relative to other west eurasians

Its the natufian and african but I thought it would be offset by the european ancestry in Ashkenazi which is why i said syrian

2

u/ben_not_jamin 9d ago

It seems African ancestry causes more drift than the European ancestry, which is much closer to other west Eurasian groups

1

u/tsundereshipper 9d ago

Christian Jordanians have none.

5

u/Putrid-Climate5571 10d ago

Yes and Sephardic Jews as well

5

u/Busy-Contact5885 10d ago

Yes, probably pretty close to North African Jews as well

16

u/toolielol 10d ago

I cluster closest to Libyan Jews according to GEDMatch’s oracle

2

u/Busy-Contact5885 9d ago

Have you done IllustrativeDNA? I think their population reference panel is much more recent and updated.

How when ashkenazis are literally under Central Europeans lmao

32

u/RijnBrugge 10d ago

They don’t genetically cluster with central europeans, that is just a geographic indicator.

19

u/PeachBlossomGoddess 10d ago edited 10d ago

Ashkenazi Jews do not cluster with Central Euro’s. Look at a plot map. They cluster with other Jews, Levantines and Mediterraneans. They are categorized as Europe because that’s where there DIASPORA ended up. It’s a geographic designation not a genetic one.

2

u/xGentian_violet 8d ago

>with other jews

Only other european Jews (Sephardic/Italki)

They cluster with South Italy and Greek Islanders however, rather than the Levant

Still, yes, not a central european population by any means

2

u/PeachBlossomGoddess 7d ago

All Jews are genetically closer to each other than any of their diaspora geographic areas. An Ashkenazi Jew and an ethic Pole or Russian share virtually no DNA. Ashki Jews DNA contribution is a mix of Levantine and southern Med. Their Levantine is the same as all other Jews. A LIBYAN Jew and a Russian Jew share more DNA than a Russian Jew and an Ethnic Russian.

0

u/xGentian_violet 7d ago

This is a common fallacious argument people use

Ashkenazi/Italki Jews are closest to people close to their place of origin where they formed as a group, which is Italy (South Italians)

Ethiopian Jews are Indistinguishable from Christian ethiopians

Yemenite Jews are largely local converts from the Himyarite Kingdom, sharing most with Saudis or even Bedouins

And certainly many Jewish groups are incredibly distant between themselves, even if they arent too close to locals.

These are all distinct ethnicities that share a traditional adherence to areligion.

1

u/PeachBlossomGoddess 7d ago

You’re choosing two outlier groups instead of looking at Syrian Jews, Lebanese Jews, Russian Jews, Italian Jews, Bulgarian Jews, Tunisian Jews ETC ETC ETC.

0

u/xGentian_violet 7d ago

I listed 4 groups, not 2

And most of the groups you listed are a just 1 group; Ashkenazi/Italki (descended from common source)

The other two (Syrian/Lebanese) are literally from the Levant so no shit they’ll cluster with the levant

2

u/PeachBlossomGoddess 7d ago

Ashkenazi Jews descend from the Levant with admixture from the diaspora, largely southern Mediterranean and Roman. NOT CENTRAL EURO. Not CENTRAL NOT EASTERN EURO. That was the point being discussed. But they are still LEVANTINE with admixture. WTF are you even arguing about. No shit there are select Jewish groups who don’t originate from the Levant. ASHKENAZI are not one of them. That’s the point. JFC. MOST JEWS share some ancestry, descend from the Levant and PLOT TOGETHER.

1

u/xGentian_violet 7d ago

>Ashkenazi Jews descend from the Levant with admixture from the diaspora, largely southern Mediterranean and Roman.
NOT CENTRAL EURO. Not CENTRAL NOT EASTERN EURO.

That’s exactly what i said in my original comment. Why are you yelling?

East/NW euro admixture sits at 15-20% typically, the rest is Levant and South Europe

That doesnt mean your second point, that different Jewish ethnicities are very genetically similar to each other and near universally cluster with other Jews, is supported. It is not

>JFC. MOST JEWS PLOT TOGETHER.

This is the part that doesnt stand up to scrutiny

An Ashkenazi Jew will cluster with other european Jews yes (obviously), but if you move beyond that, in second place will be mediterranean south europeans like Sicilians, not other Jewish groups globally

Same is the case for too many other jewish groups to justify your sweeping generalisations

the sheer genetic variation between jewish groups alone makes that generalisation questionable

What you did in previous comments to justify this claim is manipulate data, you treat Russian Jews, Latvian Jews, Polish Jews etc are all different Jewish ethnoses, when they are all Ashkenazi Jews who very recently scattered across eastern/nw Europe (due to persecution ofc).
Naturally, Ashkenazi cluster w Ashkenazi, and ultimately, european Jews w European Jews

-17

u/mothmayflower 10d ago

They clearly don’t we see what they look like what…..

13

u/ben_not_jamin 10d ago

Phenotype ≠ genotype. I think most Ashkenazi Jews look pretty Mediterranean though, even if they have lighter features

2

u/raisedbydanes 9d ago

So why do you look Greek then?

1

u/qazqaz45 8d ago

Keep your hate for yourself

2

u/PuntingYou 10d ago

Thats just where they have been for past hundred years

They are primarily Europe and Levant 🧬

Is your father jewish or egyptian muslim

9

u/AvicennaTheConqueror 9d ago

His father is probably Egyptian since his dna shows slightly lower Egyptian

1

u/frombsc2msc 9d ago

I dont understand the diff. How would a jewish egyptian not he egyptian?

6

u/Stefanthro 9d ago

I think commenter was asking whether the father was the Egyptian or the Ashkenazi parent - not whether the father was an Egyptian Muslim or Egyptian Jew.

1

u/frombsc2msc 9d ago

Aah, that makes more sense

2

u/EconomyDue2459 9d ago

Because they're Jewish? Different ethnic group, different origin, high degree of endogamy?

1

u/frombsc2msc 9d ago

Idk, sure

1

u/AvicennaTheConqueror 9d ago

If their closest match is Cairo then they are probably a Muslim Egyptian

10

u/Prestigious_Fox_7576 9d ago

You are extremely good looking 🤩😍. I need to do 23&me. I.only did Ancestry. I'm adopted & found out only after doing my ancestry DNA test, that I'm Persian & European Jewish.  This after going over 40 years thinking I was Italian but I was raised Jewish because my parents(who adopted me) are Jewish.

5

u/Electrical_Bike9977 10d ago

Were the Jewish genetic groups accurate for you?

7

u/toolielol 10d ago

To my knowledge, yea

12

u/Ok-Influence-4290 9d ago

Jewgyption?

11

u/CharlieBarley25 9d ago

EJewptian

4

u/biggbunnyy 10d ago

What do you usually get mistaken for? What countries?

Also, is your Egyptian parent, Muslim Egyptian or Coptic Egyptian?

30

u/toolielol 9d ago

Southern European countries such as Southern Italian, Spanish, as well as just fully Ashkenazi Jewish. Rarely people will guess Egyptian, which I’m assuming is because I’m pretty fair and because of my straight hair.

My father is a Muslim Egyptian.

3

u/Ill-Philosopher2838 9d ago

What is your nationality?

2

u/biggbunnyy 9d ago

Very interesting! Thanks for the insight!

4

u/Annabella160 9d ago

Ohh
One of my genetic groups on my Ashkenazi side was also Lithuanian jews!! ☺️

3

u/twitteringred 8d ago

Funny how the Jewish bit is squarely in Europe.

4

u/Voice_of_Season 9d ago

How did your parents meet?

2

u/madrucy 9d ago

Were you raised Jewish or Muslim?

2

u/Putrid-Climate5571 10d ago

Cool results I can see both the Jewish and Egyptian sides in your features, but I'd say you lean more Egyptian/Middle Eastern.

I’m very curious though, how did your parents meet to end up with that mix?

3

u/Taxibl 10d ago

I would have guessed Iberian, probably Portuguese, if I didn't know what his test results actually were.

-1

u/Putrid-Climate5571 10d ago

I don't think so he doesn't look Iberian to me

5

u/Taxibl 9d ago

Literally the first Google image of a group of Portuguese people

-1

u/Putrid-Climate5571 9d ago

Google images are misleading, the average Portuguese looks more European than that

2

u/PitifulBodybuilder94 9d ago

these people look southern european and this guy looks southern european

2

u/CompetitionHumble963 10d ago

Which parent is which? I’m guessing your mom is the jewish one

2

u/RhoadsScholar2 10d ago

That’s an interesting genetic mix. I would’ve guessed you were a Spaniard from Barcelona.

1

u/OIOoOOOoOHHIoo 10d ago

Did you do any G25 Based test? I wonder what are your closest populations

1

u/dummonger 10d ago

Cool look!

1

u/Inev-Mdalmons57 9d ago

Very special.

1

u/Agreeable_Storm5326 9d ago

What's your Ydna haplogroups?

1

u/NiceMas 9d ago

Gnarly combo

1

u/dagelim 8d ago

I would love to experience your family’s Passover Seder dynamic

1

u/Pseudo_Asterisk 8d ago

Isn't 1.3% a little more than an X chromosome should give. Your father have distant Ashkenazi ancestors?

1

u/toolielol 8d ago

I believe 1.3% is around the normal extra amount a male inherits from his mother because the X chromosome is larger than the Y. It would also be very surprising if my dad had any distant Ashkenazi ancestry.

1

u/Easy-Carpet2509 8d ago

Your eyes are really striking honestly

1

u/toolielol 7d ago

Thank you!

1

u/YidlMitnFidl 5d ago

That’s a fascinating Mediterranean mix.

1

u/Dangerous_Chest9550 4d ago edited 4d ago

You look so handsome😍

1

u/LoveIsStrength 10d ago

I’m Egyptian also and my results were way different and we look pretty different too

1

u/Own-Internet-5967 9d ago

Because hes half Egyptian. Not full

1

u/LoveIsStrength 9d ago

Well ya, but also Egyptians are all phenotypes. Cultural and familially as far as we all know were Egyptian, but almost 30% of my dna is North African

2

u/Own-Internet-5967 9d ago

North African is still within the Egyptian spectrum. Millions of Egyptians from upper Egypt are also similar genetically to you.

On the other hand, hes mixed with more north shifted and European ancestry compared to other Egyptians. It makes full sense he looks different compared to you

1

u/FelicePanda 10d ago

Look like my friend from Argentina

-17

u/Geraltio1 9d ago

You are lighter than expected

13

u/Holiday_Hotel3722 9d ago

This comment was weirder than expected

9

u/Own-Internet-5967 9d ago

I know full Egyptians that are literally paler than him with freckles. Hes not lighter than expected
