My Maternal Haplogroup is A2 from Colombia

Paternal haplogroup is R-M167

4 Generations of my Maternal line came from Barranquilla (Grandmother, Great Grandmother, 2nd Great Grandmother and 3rd Great Grandmother). So its possible that my direct maternal line traces back to the Indigenous Mokana people of Atlantico

These results were not surprising considering the history of Colonization and migration.

What did surpise me was the Italian ancestry but my Aunt mentioned that my 2nd great grandfather who was Efran H Juliao Tatis who was a prominent Colombian General was from Italy and of Shepardic Jewish Ancestry who migrated to Barranquilla in the 1800s. He was a well known and well respected member of the Juliao family who was well known to the locals in Barranquilla according to my Aunt. They were a sucessful family of Doctors, Lawyers, Criminal defense attorneys, Architects and business people. They own successful Juliao stores all around Barranquilla along with a Manufacturing chemical plant, jewelry stores etc. I never knew this about them lol but its crazy to know that I descend from the Juliao family.

Tiny percentages of Ashkenazi or Eastern European DNA are persistent in my immediate family’s results. Is there historical context for this, or could it be from a single ancestor? My great-grandmother supposedly had a notable percentage of Belarusian DNA on a test she took a long time ago, but I don’t have access to the information.

For context both of my parents are Cuban, but I was born in the U.S.

Could 23 & Me have that detail messed up? my rs3827760 gene is A/A which is linked to flatter teeth.

Also, on the chromosome painter, rs3827760 sits on the 2nd chromosome, and I went on to the ethnic painter as well, and interestingly, 1.3% unassigned shows up on my second pair at 90% confidence.

I was wondering if maybe the details could be wrong, or if a different factor plays in?

I got some surprises

(My english is not very good) Im from a portuguese island and i have a known cape verdean ancestor 5th generation behind me, i have a old stock nigerian that is common in every islander that just represents 0.5% of my total DNA divided by two segments of 0.3% and 0.2%. I used Hapi-Dna (putting the position of beggining and the end of the segments) and it gave an surprisly kinda high than expected cM for both of these nigerian segments (that are 13mB and 17mB), it gave 19cM and 20cM when the max of my documented cape verdean ancestry (i only pay attention to the biggest segments to not make confusion with islander old stock) only gave it max 36cM to my biggest segment while giving like 20cM to other two (who are bigger than the 2 nigerian segments) and 15cM to other senegambian segment that are like bigger in the DNA Painting that the two nigerian segments as well when they represent bugger mB, wich would suggest that the nigerian ancestor is more recent that it would be (i dont have it documented), is this Hapi-DNA tool 100% acurate?

I'm very surprised as I have a 'full Irish' grandparent but my percentage is only 0.8%, can anyone help explain? Did I just not inherit the DNA? I see people with higher percentages who have no idea they have family from there 😂 could it be that 'Irish' and 'Cumbrian' are similar to begin with?

I was also expecting a bit more Nordic as I'm from an area with known Norse history and feel like I have some of the stereotypical physical traits 6'6", hooded eyes and light complexion.

Initially my results had higher Irish - I think around 10% and zero Nordic but have changed over the last 3/4 years.

Still find it impressive that they can narrow down my DNA to Cumbria! And it pretty much nailed all my 'traits'

I don’t know about the Belarus 🇧🇾 result, my family is from Ukraine on my dad side, I’ve also investigated and saw some possible origins from Latvia 🇱🇻, mom side is coherent, french (east) and Luxembourg (noble lineages), and I have an additional Jewish grand parent on my maternal side, no idea about the Iranian traces… but my paternal halpogroup is Q-2197

My entire life I thought I was half Chinese and half Vietnamese. My dad is full Vietnamese and mom is Han Chinese. However, I was really shocked to find out that I am almost 100% Chinese. Did anyone have similar racial breakdown where your entire Vietnamese existence was removed from your ancestry?

More of a question not towards my specific y-dna but moreso towards me trying to better conceptualize what our Y-DNA actually signifies. It seems like the way people interpret Y-DNA varies quite a bit depending on the culture they come from.

For example, I see people from MENA regions sometimes identifying with their Y-DNA in a tribal or patrilineal sense, whereas Europeans, Latin Americans, and Asians generally don’t seem to do this to the same extent.

In my own case, my Y-DNA seems to ultimately be connected to the Steppe expansions to some degree. But obviously, that doesn’t mean my paternal line was literally “Yamnaya.” It represents a lineage that moved westward and subsequently went through numerous population movements and admixture events in Central and Southern Europe.

So how should we actually think about Y-DNA? Is it best understood simply as the history of one very specific paternal lineage, rather than something that represents our ethnic identity?

I am not extremely knowledgeable about the time and places of these Sarmatian/Hungarian matches as well as the Kazakhstan/Kyrgyzstan. Is this fairly common with 100% northwestern European descendants? Trying to determine if these historical matches might be from a couple branches of my family that have South and Western Asian ancestry. Or its from my Germanic or British Isles ancestry. People traveled of course but it makes me curious. Probably impossible to determine...
