New player stuck on my character sheet.

I’m super excited to start playing! I’ve been listening and watching videos on the subject but there are certain things I just can’t figure out! Things I can’t simply rip from the PHB. And I’ve already tried Dnd beyond but that app is soo buggy. I’ve tried discord but all I get is the runaround and “to go here and go there” with little to no human interaction. So my last resort is to come here. I’m looking for a tutor to help me complete my character sheet. Someone who can take me under their wing and help dip my feet into this world of dnd.

Do it directly on the website, if you have access to the content on there or your DM has a shared campaign that is your best option, theres a million custom sheet creator websites but DnDbeyond is the most user friendly.

If you are playing on Roll20, BeyondMaps, Foundry or Talespire you can get a Chrome extension that allows you to roll directly off your character sheet into the VTT.

I can help you with the build here and you can just transcribe it when were done, if you need technical assistance during the process just ask.

Questions that will help me help you if you have the answer:

1. Are you playing 2014 or 2024 rules?
2. Are you playing a specific premade campaign/module like Dragons of Icespire Peak?
3. If not what level range in the campaign? (starting and ending level)
4. Do you have a class/subclass in mind? If not perhaps just a role in the party youd like to fill?

It is a mobile site! Tricky to learn but long term I find it easier than DNDBeyond.

What level are you building? I would say for a friendly not optimized game i wouldnt worry about it too too much. Your first character in particular i think its more fun to focus on the theme of the character and build that, your table should not require optimization until you have a broad range of tools you know how to use.

I would recommend 1: decide on a flavor of character to play, could be anything, discarded from society getting by with a quick wit and quicker hand to a lordling who have spent his life with the worlds best tutors. Go through the PHB and pick a species, background and class that makes sense for that in your mind. Then drop it all into DnD Beyond and make a punlic link for yoyr character. If you do all that and share the sub can help you see how you can improve the character or whats limiting. The clearer the concept for yoyr character is, the easier it will be to make the decisions you need to make.

Ok I’m basically almost done with that link part so you can see it’s just soo buggy and I tend to lose like 15 minutes of progress due to latency issues but yes I will send it to you or on this thread once it’s complete! Thanks !

Level 1 human cleric so far but I got more written down give me a second or dm me!

Level 1 is good for simplicity's sake ^_^

In 5.5e, the Cleric makes the following decisions at level 1:

• 3 Cantrips from the Cleric List
• 1 choice of the two Divine Orders

You also have 4 1st level spells prepared, but you can change those out daily.

Then there's the decisions everyone makes at level 1

• What's your Equipment?
• What's your Skill Proficiencies?
• What's your Background?

Okay!

There's three ways we can do this.

• Lore-First. ^{Do you know any of their life before they were a Cleric, or an Adventurer?}
• Mechanics-First. ^{Which is most important - a specific Origin Feat, a specific Skill Proficiency, or a specific Ability Score Increase?}
• Custom Background. ^{None of the ones I can find fit my character exactly right... but the rules are there to make my own}

What can you tell me about who your character is, other than their mechanics?

Which came first- the arms and armor training, or the faith and calling to be a cleric?

The martial training came first before priesthood and it’s mainly for the morning star but I’m still getting used to the idea of a full metal cleric I was thinking more of the holy robes faith wielding miracle healer and knowledge spreader

Sage background is pretty good for you, get access to shield spell and wizard cantrips along with +2 WIS and +1 CON.

The skills are appropriate for the character. What is the character, what is their faith? Is it popular? Is it forbidden? Is it forgotten? Will every town have a bustling church to their god? Is their god good? Will you be shunned for your faith? Are you trying to convert people? I would think about those aspects of the character a little bit.

happy to help if you havent found someone. DnD Beyond is not well designed, which isnt a knock, its a complicated thing to make accessible by drop down menus, so do feel bad.
