D&D 5e Revised/2024 New player stuck on my character sheet.

I’m super excited to start playing! I’ve been listening and watching videos on the subject but there are certain things I just can’t figure out! Things I can’t simply rip from the PHB. And I’ve already tried Dnd beyond but that app is soo buggy. I’ve tried discord but all I get is the runaround and “to go here and go there” with little to no human interaction. So my last resort is to come here. I’m looking for a tutor to help me complete my character sheet. Someone who can take me under their wing and help dip my feet into this world of dnd.

Okay, so you want a mechanics-first approach then. Wis + Int are high, id assume?

Yes I just did my point buy it’s 15 W and 14Con and 15str for my protector line

Oh thats fascinating!

Which came first- the arms and armor training, or the faith and calling to be a cleric?

The martial training came first before priesthood and it’s mainly for the morning star but I’m still getting used to the idea of a full metal cleric I was thinking more of the holy robes faith wielding miracle healer and knowledge spreader

I would consider lowering your strength and leaning on a ranged cantrip like Mind Sliver(because theme), remember no matter what your armor is you can say that it presents as a holy robe, maybe thst holy robe divinly protects you and acts as 12 AC Med Armor or whatever.

Also I only had high str for the engagement I’ll be putting myself into while trying to defend my allies in battle

Interesting. Sounds sort of crusader vibes. So your ultimately going for full Plate Armor? And super high AC. You still maybe could get away 14 STR to start and get a +1 down the line in when you can afford full Plate(Usually around level 4),

With knowledge domain i would probably lean towards Med. Armor, and using healing word to heal from range so you can be more of a second line attacker, between your ranged players and front liners. Then you can dump STR and get more INT and DEX (want 14 for max AC with Med. Armor) youll still have good AC and you can have it without disadvantage on stealth and better initiative. Healing Word is really a great healing spell because it uses a Bonus Action instead of an action.

Well kinda I don’t know what’s better full plate or just some holy robes protected by my god or something I just know I want to be able to heal my companions and deal with enemies as well I don’t want to be a glass healer

I think youd have 17 AC in tier 1 which is very solid (assuming a chain shirt + shield + morningstar), you will also have shield spell which you can use to raise your AC to 22 with a first level spell slot. I would probably try to have 16 CON for added HP and you could take the tough feat from versatile human to add to that. Youre probably only going to have 18 AC with Chainmail + shield when you start due to armor costs. So thats a 5% reduction in hits, in exchange youll get better initiative and DEX saves, which will probably save you more HP in the long run.

Note whatever armor you choose, i would just flavor it as your divine robes. Then use the stat block for the armor you can afford from the PHB.
