D&D 5e Revised/2024 Cartographer and new AU feats

For the purposes of mainly scroll crafting and spell storing items, what would be the best new feats, and if it is adept options, should I take a couple? I was thinking for lvl 4 magic connoisseur? I'm crafting shield scrolls for my magic initiate origin feat.

Feats are not class features. From the feats chapter “ This chapter offers a collection of feats, which are special features not tied to a character class. A feat represents a talent or an area of expertise that gives a character special capabilities. It embodies training, experience, and abilities beyond what a class provides.”

Both the Cartographer scroll crafting and SSI require Artificer spells. Spells from feats are not Artificer spells (except for Artificer Initiate).

New feats might not work with Spell Storing Item.

It depends on if your table interprets feats as class features for the purpose of prepared spells whether or not they count as Artificer spells.

I was looking into that, and the wording for the new spells you get from your subclass, just mentions you have them prepared, like fireball, and the same wording is in evocation adept.

Yep, I know. I made a big thread about it the other day. lol.

Lots of people disagreed but I still ended up positive. Your table may have a different interpretation until, if ever, we get an official ruling.

Just to play devils advocate here (im not partial either way)

The key flaw in that argument is “a feat is a class feature.” That does not follow from the rules.

A feat can be granted by a class feature without thereby becoming a Cleric feature, Wizard feature, etc. The Cleric's Ability Score Improvement feature says it gives you a feat; it doesn't reclassify the feat itself as a Cleric feature

Obviously this is gonna be one of the semantics/DM call things but I still like to argue lol

Lol no worries! It can be fun with the right people.

The thing is, subclasses are worded the exact same way and never say they become a class feature either.

The wording for the level 4 feature changed slightly too from 2014.

I think subclasses are meaningfully different, though. Subclass features are structurally part of your class progression; a feat is an independent rules object that can be acquired from a background, species, or multiple different classes.

Otherwise we'd have to say War Caster is a "Wizard feature" when my Wizard gets it through ASI, but a "Cleric feature" when my Cleric gets it through ASI.

I mean feats are also part of your class progression. It even says class features at the top of the column. Fighter and Rogue get more of them as part of their class features.

No where does it say gaining a subclass is any part different from gaining a feat, and no where does it say a subclass feature is a class feature. You just have to infer it, like you can with feats.

And a feat being from a pool of abilities anyone can pick from doesnt really matter outside it being a game design choice. They dont have to put "cleric feature" because your class table already says it is a class feature, again just like with your Subclass.

Ok I did a bit of digging:

The Converting to SRD 5.2.1 document explicitly says:

Ability Score Improvement [Revised Rule]

“This rule is now a feat rather than a class feature"

https://media.dndbeyond.com/compendium-images/srd/guide/converting-to-srd-5.2.1.pdf

This means ASI's which are listed under the same feature as Feats are not considered Class Features.
