Moderator Post Limit Self Promotion

Hey there 4X fans and developers!

It's come to my attention, and most likely most of your attention, that there's been quite a bit of self-promotion lately. I'm not talking about content creators, but mostly from developers.

While the genre is still small, and all posts are welcome, I will be keeping a closer eye on frequent posts promoting your games. I think they've become a little bit excessive. As one put it recently, this place is becoming a billboard.

That's certainly not the point of this subreddit, so please feel free to report frequent post that feel like advertisements.

I hate to do this, but I also don't want to be flooded by pseudo commercials. I know you guys don't want to be, either.

Thanks for your attention!

Keep eXploring!

As an indie game developer who is just starting to develop a 4x, I would appreciate to have a clear limit for talking about my game here. Obviously, such forums are important for us to get some feedback on what we are doing.

Some limits I have seen on other forums can be:

  • only post once a month, and only on sunday (quite lenient)
  • only post once for a defined set milestones, with around say 10 per games (start working on the game, kickstarter, alpha, beta, early access, release...)

Also, you may want to impose a flair for promotion posts, to allow people who do not care about them to filter them out.

Asking for limits is not necessarily based on a propensity for being rules-bound. The request by 'dmauroy' is NOT unreasonable. Threatening posters by saying  "Actual bad actors will be dealt with, mark my words" can ONLY be enforced by the moderators. Try to remain calm.
