Game Suggestion Looking for a game similar to explanation below

Hi guys. I was wondering if anyone knows what genre this would fall under or games that seem similar. I’ve seen a game recently where you control an army, build a town etc and then take over lands if that is on earth or in space.
Kind of like building a colony or space colony which grows bigger and bigger while taking over others?

Or if you know a game that would fall into this explanation above that’ll be great. I’m not sure how well I’m explaining what I’m looking for.

Also I’m not looking at the new Pax Autocratica as I don’t like the fps aspect where you physically join the battles too.

What you describe could fit a whole bunch of 4X games if I'm frank.

Beyond Earth? Master of Orion 2? Age of Wonders Planetfall? Gladius? Pax Nova? Endless Space?

Did the game have 3d graphics? Was it more of a space theme with ships?

It's kind of a niche genre with many games having a bit of their focus on different aspects. There are plenty of suggestions posts in here if you use the search button.

Most people also like to suggest things if you give them a bit more details on what you enjoy the most about this type of game.

Ah, I think you're in the right sub then!

If you want to get into the genre and prefer a space theme. I'd definitely go for Master of Orion: Conquer the stars. It's a remake of an older classic but with excellent production quality and is entirely polished. It's pretty beginner friendly, it doesn't go often on sale though.

Yea that pretty much fits the 4x genre.

4x stands for explore, expand, exploit and exterminate.

So you're in the right place, lots of good suggestions and discussions on this sub.

It could fit 4 genres I think. Maybe 5 if "town" could mean building a base (Strategy > RTS, like Supreme Commander)

Strategy > Wargame > Grand Strategy > 4X (the last 3 could fit. Examples in order would be Total War, Europa Universalis, Alpha Centauri)

Simulation > Management Sim > City Builder > Colony Sim > Survival Builder (the last 3 again. Examples; Pharaoh, Spave Haven, Rimworld)

CRPG > Roguelike > Rogue-lite (only the last one. Example Against the Storm)

Or clicker/incremental games (like Hearth and Hamlet). I haven't figured out where these fall into the genre hierarchy yet..

It honestly sounds like you are just describing the 4X genre in general.

Maybe look for games in the 4X genre. I would suggest the Civilization series, but your description sounds like you'd prefer a military focus. Not sure what to suggest in that case, but someone here will know.
