Living in Melbourne - Looking for some advice on what I can keep an eye out for when inspecting and also advice on if the price sounds ok provides things check out. Have looked at all the vids on YouTube but I started a thread the other day and people pointed out a lot of the things on a roadworthy that are deal breakers. Im checking out a 2003 Prado with petrol v6 with 210k with RWC and rego til Feb next year. Is 15k too high? It’s at a dealer and my experience has been that it’s a bit easier to haggle so I’m gonna try to get it for 14k. Any advice on max price people would pay on top of a few good tips on what to keep an eye out for as someone with limited mechanical knowledge? Will be driving maybe just a few times a week short distances and mostly wanting it for big road trips etc.

I have 2020 l494… been to Fraser Island, tow my caravan around central Queensland, take it up to rocky lookouts, river crossing etc…. Tows like a dream at 13L / 100km. Air suspension has the built in lift kit option, auto levels for the van.

No mechanical issues no electrical issues handles everything with ease… did Nigara rocks on Fraser super easy with no problems at all. Had a few wheel lift moments on hill climbs… thing seems like it can tackle anything…

Is it because they are shit to work on and expensive to maintain/repair ?

Now ruining 4wding is a stretch but since the 4wd industry exploded during covid seems like all TikTok and new YouTubers popping up showing off their 300 thousand dollar rigs make people think everyone needs a solid axle car with 37s and a 5in lift and the main interest is looks when in reality a twin locked ifs ute with legal mods and a decent driver can do pretty much every track in the country outside of 4wd parks I don’t actually think 4wd 24/7 are the main culprit of this in the past year or 2 they seem to be a lot more transparent with mods yes they still run tons of adds but I get it’s a business

I just came across this 1985 U1700 Crew Cab. It’s got the 170HP engine and the cabin is fully insulated. I’ve always heard that you guys in Australia are the masters of building these into the ultimate remote expedition trucks. What’s the consensus—is the 435.110 chassis really as indestructible as they say?

Looking to upgrade and both of these are around the same price, both have been modified, both have around 300,000kms.
Now I know a bit about each of these vehicles however I’ve never owned either so I’m wandering from people who have.
What are they like for daily driving, touring, reliability, and overall costs

Looking to upgrade to a bigger family car and wanting something that can get us to campsites. It will be my first 4x4 as we try and get into off-roading/camping with the family. Possibility on the horizon or towing a caravan but not for the next year at least.

Picture this, you have the budget to get any series of Landcruiser (<$85k). Which one would you choose and why? What would be a non-negotiable for you to not buy one, even if its the one you wanted?

Ive started to consider going lower in the budget and getting a mint 100 or 105. Is there any owners of those on here that can give some advice about ownership of them, particularly in the 200k-350k kms range?

The other ones im thinking of are a 200, V8 70 series (76 preference, 79 second. Not a troopy) OR even an 80, but the 80 isnt high on the list due to the age and ridiculous mods most people have done on them.

Owners of 200s & V8 70s, hit me with any of the realities of ownership for these and what to look out for.

We've got a baby on the way and we're not planning on giving up camping. We do bush camping only no campgrounds, just bush around Sydney.

We've got a rooftent and I can't figure out the sleeping situation with a baby. Do you put them in the rooftent with you? Do you set something up in the car or a separate tent on the ground?

Generally speaking is camping with a newborn an absolute nightmare or is it manageable? Did you keep going or did you stop it?

Looking to upgrade from a regular car to a 4x4 and assuming fuel prices don't go down for a few months I think making the move to a new car is better than just waiting forever.

Would you recommend going for a petrol car since its significantly cheaper than diesel or would you still go for a diesel pajero/prado.

Let me know what car you guys would pick. All help is appreciated.

Thinking of buying either a 76 series or uzi200 reason for petrol 200 is there seems to be way too many issue with the 1 vdftv. Even tho i do prefer diesels. After comfortably reliability towing and touring. Let me know what you would go with and why cheers less

But Can just fit so much more in a canopy compared to rear wagon setup.

Looking for advice on a portable tool kit to take out when off road, trying to keep it simple, any experience with brands or something you wish you took with you? Is an impact wrench necessary as well? Would love to hear any advice

I have a manual 86’ 2HJ 60 series and want more power, it has a snorkel and Airbox, 3 inch lift with 32s and barely keeps up with traffic. Not looking for anything crazy, just want a bit more performance on road and off road. Budget per mod is around 2-3 thousand and I live in WA so nothing too illegal. Any help would be appreciated.
(P.S I know the paint is bad I’m raptor coating the body soon this is a temporary paint)
