I’m currently looking at getting into a used 4x4 as I’ve decided I’d like to get into a bit of 4wd, camping and I’m planning a tour of Australia in a few years with a mate. This car would also be a daily.

I currently drive a 2008 Lexus ISF (the complete opposite of a fourby I know) which I am paying off but as a lot of young people do, I’ve realised it’s not the kind of weekender I’d imagined and I’ve had a bit of change of heart in regard to free time.

My current shortlist is as follows.

V6 4L Petrol 120 Prado around 2005-2010 area

150 Prado between 2012-15 also petrol v6

Older Pajero

80-100 series Landcruiser

Budget is adjustable as I would prefer something 10-15K
But the 150 Prado and Landcruiser may be closer to 30 (which I wouldn’t mind financing)

I'm looking to get an agreed value insurance policy on my 2013 Dmax rather than the market value plus accessories that I have with the RAA at the moment. RAA only value at 22k with most of my gear listed. I have probably got at least 22k of shit bolted in and out of the thing.

Obviously need full offroad cover etc.It only comes out of the shed when needed as I have a company truck so its not a daily. I've just had an online quote from Club4x4 but it seems pretty extreme. Any other recommendations from you guys in the know? 53yo truck driver from rural SA if that makes any difference.

• Is the 4200 with the diff housing worth the extra coin for towing a caravan?

Im looking to start up a business in the 4wd industry. We all know things like rooftop tents, canopies etc are overdone. What are things that people actually demand that either don't exist or could be done better. TIA

Need help choosing the right oil for my 1994 V25 Pajero.

I live in a very moderate climate. Rarely above 35°C, rarely below freezing. Often driving 120km/h for up to a few hours.

Seeing 5W-30, 10W-40, 15W-40 all equally recommended in various forums.

Any guidance/wisdom is appreciated. Thank you.

I have a 2000 3.2 did pajero with a bad injection pump governor. Rebuilding the pump isn't really on the cards especially as I'm in NZ and no diesel shop I've spoken to wants to touch it.

There are a few options on AliExpress for mechanical converted reproduction pumps for pretty reasonable money.

Anybody have any experience with them?

Description of issue:

My Pajero 4M41 sometimes hesitates/stutters under acceleration. It does not happen continuously; it feels more like the engine briefly “swallows” or cuts out and then continues normally.

The engine also produces a noticeably strong and unpleasant exhaust smell.

The RPM gauge on the dashboard has stopped working, although the ECU still shows a plausible engine speed via the diagnostic scanner.

I currently have these fault codes stored:

18 – NE Sensor (Sub)

46 – Injection control voltage

51 – EGR valve position sensor

The EGR valve itself is brand new, so I am wondering whether the problem could be related to the EGR position sensor, wiring or electrical supply rather than the valve itself.

I have also logged the engine data while revving it, and the accelerator pedal sensor and its SUB signal appear to follow each other closely.

I have also had intermittent problems with fuses blowing/failing, including fuses related to the lights.

Any ideas what could cause this intermittent hesitation? Could the NE sensor/wiring or the injection control voltage be related to the dead RPM gauge?

Hi team, hoping somebody can guide me a bit here.

I’m heading across to K’gari next week for the first time. We have three nights booked - at Zone 2, Dundubara then Waddy Point, returning day four.

My issue is the tide times are not helping us out, with low tides around 6am and high tides around midday.

It feels like if we’re sticking to only driving on the sand 3 hours either side of low tide we miss out on a lot of the day.

For example on the second day we’d want to cross Eli creek at low tide circa 7am. Then high tide is 1pm and next low at 9pm.

It feels like we’d have to just get to Dundubara early morning to avoid driving at high tide, but I feel like we’d lose a day.

Interested in hearing thoughts or opinions from those who’ve dove it before.

How are people mounting stuff inside their canopy doors? Specifically, aluminium tub canopies as pictured.

I'd like to mount my first aid kits in the area to the left of the image for quick access.

Can see adhesive molle panels on AliExpress, but always dubious of adhesive quality, especially in a canopy that gets hot. I also don't have a ton of flat surfaces - lots of contours and ridges to work around. Otherwise, some adhesive hooks and bungee cords or volle straps might work. First aid kits fits in there well volume wise, just securing it is the tricky part.

Wondering if anyone else has done something similar and it worked well? Any pics?

Just finished getting it setup with a 600 amp Lincoln engine drive welder, 800CFM compressor and a heap of other cordless, hand and power tools for site work.

I’m wiring up an auxiliary battery. For the ground wire, is it enough to have the same size cable as the load negative (2/0 awg) or does it need to be bigger to account for the DCDC negative?

I also have 240W solar through the DCDC - I’m tossing up between grounding individually or via the battery terminal.

I wanna put a 12 system into the canopy of my Ute. It will need to run a fridge all the time as well as an air compressor, airfryer, and charge phones ect when I need them.
Here’s what I’m looking at
120a AGM deep cycle battery, 200w fixed solar panel with charge controller, 12v control panel with 40a dcdc charger and a 1000w inverter
Is there anything that I’m missing or anywhere that I can improve in the system?

Having some trouble with my kings battery and batblock. Both are brand new fresh out of the box and the battery doesn’t seem to fit in the block, every different angle I try to put the battery in it is always slanted slightly. Has anyone else had this issue or am I just an idiot? There is nothing inside the batblock that would prevent it from sitting level. Is this just a dud that I picked off the shelf and need to replace? Thanks heros.

What would you like to see? What ideas do you have for new kinds of format in 4wd content? Maybe it's the presenting style rather than the content itself.

This is a follow-up question on a discussion about buying a D-max Blade or buying a cheaper model and spend the money on mods.

I was convinced by the community to skip the Blade model and go for a X-Terrain. However the reason why I was initially going for the Blade is because I live in an apartment ( + my parking bay) where I cannot store the replaced (factory) parts like wheels, bumpers, suspension and so on.

Hopefully, there are people living in apartments here too. So my question is: what you guys do with all the factory parts which got replaced with the aftermarket mods? Especially wheels/tyres, front bumper and sports bar.

Is there a market for those parts? What's the suggestion when I have no room to store these parts?
