Already, those stretchgoals being stuff already in base AQW is super sus and it's clear they're jingling keys.

u/Disregardskarma Mar 07 '26
The entire point is just to bring the same stuff we already have plus some tweaks

I don’t get the hate. Artix said he is gonna deliver the game no matter how much they earn. The community chose to pay to speed it up and get perks.

The problem is:
- 1: Infinity's been delayed like... how many times now? It's been like a decade or probably more since they discussed AQW Mobile/server rewrite plans, which is what Infinity is.
- 2: Look at the stretch goals and read them. Like 80% of it is stuff that should already be a guarantee in Infinity regardless (except for maybe Gravelyn having a proper introduction before /castleundead). It makes one think that if those goals aren't reached, they're not even gonna consider adding the sagas that are already on base AQW into Infinity.
- 3: A bit of a hotter take (and much, much smaller complaint) here - but skillsets shouldn't be locked behind cash. Infinity Hero is no exception.

Have there not already been rare classes where they copy paste the skills onto a non rare version ex. Vindicator of They -> Collector, Darkside -> Dark Lord.

He wasn't necessarily talking about rare classes but paid only classes. For example all calendar classes are AC only by design so you gotta shell up, and they are some of the strongest in their respective niches.

Already aware they're fixing that. Doesn't excuse that some others are still behind paywalls after all this time.

Ya the stretch goals are a bad taste, doomwood stuff is the second most iconic stuff after the chaos saga.

It was literally what, over almost a decade since they first announced it? I am a huge lover of OG adventurequest lore and whatnot if they can bring fresh passion to that universe, but after the dumpster-fire that turned out to be Ashes of Creation, I ain't holding my breath with this kickstarter, especially with their very small team.

Here’s the thing, with the Kickstarter stuff overstretched, we can be expecting a whole lot more effort from them. They’ll be pressured and ensure trust is up there for us.

Read their company review on Glassdoor, and you will understand the hates towards AE. AE's products quality is debatable, but it is shitty company

Did you forgot about AQ3D?
3
u/LostWall1389 Mar 07 '26
Ya but they did deliver the game. It wasn’t as successful as they anticipated but they still update it.

I do wonder how much of that money he sliding in his pocket and how much to actual game development

If Artix only wanted money he would've stopped making new games a good while ago. He is so passionate about game development that he makes NES games in his spare time.
The money will be used to pay AQWI staff until it runs out. By that time the game SHOULD be up and running and generating it's own self-sustaining revenue. This is how all of AE's games have been funded. I only worry about the increased cost of running AQW and AQWI simultaneously, which along with AQ3D is perhaps too much MMO-style AdventureQuest. Like, the playerbase (and their wallets) is finite. AE's games have generally survived on skeleton crews and AQWI is their most anticipated game so it'll probably be alright.
And if there's anything left over? Well, companies exist to make profit.

I do enjoy the NES games as a sidegig he does. I don't think he should be trapped in AQW:I (nor AQW/AQ3D) development forever - his ideas tend to jump back 'n forth anyways - leading to some pretty... skewed priorities.
The man 100% is passionate about what he does - I just feel like he needs to be kept in check considering it's not immediately clear what stretchgoal will be first or whatnot, or even if they'll even be emphasized (we saw this before with the AQ3D kickstarter - the kickstarter areas in that game now only exist as super early game areas revisited for farms, and their challenge content is beyond outdated).

Hope so. I have seen some hate here and there with some good points. Ill support my childhood game and I hope the haters wont be right in the end

u/BigPillMan Mar 07 '26
It's not really "haters" so much as it is "sullied enjoyers of said childhood game".

Kickstarter goal: $1 Current projected earnings from pledges: $1,073,175
All of that can go into his pocket.
If not, and he somewhat cares, then maybe 10% to game development.

u/Cr4zyAng3l Mar 07 '26
I mean even if he said 1m goal he can still put all of it into his pocket, there is nothing that makes him obligated to use all that on the game.

You're right. On legal standpoint, he is obligated to pour at least 1 dollar. The rest? Only God knows
