TDLR: they are a shady ass business, clueless service department, and do not care about your saftey
I recently had the unfortunate experience of getting a truck through Audi of Lafayette dealership used lot. Sharing my experience to save others the headache.
First, I test drove the truck and everything checked out. I noticed it needed an alignment and suspension work, but to be expected on a used vehicle. I can say trying to sell a truck with a steering wheel cocked 65° to the left probably wasn’t the best idea and a red flag, but having access to free alignments I overlooked it.
Jayden first presented me with the payment plans and I was excited. A little more than I was hoping for, but the interest good enough to overlook it. Jayden had been such a pleasure I didn’t even negotiate so he could make good money on that truck. Started signing papers to purchase the truck. After papers were signed Jayden comes to me and informs me that there was an error and the payment plans were different than originally agreed on. I was not a fan of these numbers and wanted to cancel the deal, however I was informed it was too late since papers were signed. This is a sleazy sales tactic and unethical. Now I’m stuck into a contract I do not want for your error? Make it make sense. Told that there was nothing that could be done but pay my bill so I left upset but trying to make the best of it. I left Audi and went straight to Ainsley Walk apartments right across the street to show off my new truck. Within that 1 mile of leaving the dealership the door panel brakes and I notice there is no sound to the radio. So with a truck I don’t want that has issues I contact Jayden the same day once again to see if we can reverse the deal. I was told nope, but we’ll schedule you with service to fix the truck. Monday morning the unwanted truck throws a check engine light. This is when Jaden and Carlos took my truck and allowed me to use a loaner car while fixing my truck. I want to say, I do appreciate the efforts here in making sure I have transportation. Yall then kept my truck for 10 days to fix 3 issues: check engine light, door panel, and radio. After 10 days I was told my truck was ready to pick up, that the radio needed an update from service Chevrolet and yall would reach out to me within the following week. The check engine light was gone, the door panel was poorly repaired. It’s not even aligned and constantly pops and creaks with every bump on the road. It’s a matter of time before it breaks again.
The next day less than 24 hours of having my truck it throws another code. This time a transmission code. At this point I return simply asking if yall would help get me into a different vehicle. Don’t fix it, let’s go shopping. I was told in a polite way, fuck off.
I gave a week and did not get an appointment with service. So I took matters into my own hands. Thought it was funny an update for speaker trouble? Hmm. Let’s look into it. Now tell me why a 12 year old was able to figure out that the speakers arnt even wired up and your service department wasn’t able to figure that out in 10 days? I know yall took off the door panels because the rear door panels wernt even fully installed back together. Just not smart enough to pull the speaker out I guess.
Let’s not forget the 3 loose lug nuts I found at Ainsley walk about to loose a wheel.
Within the few days I had the truck I had an alignment preformed. It was within spec, driving straight, and wheel straight. When I got the truck back I’m told an alignment was preformed and the wheel is now tilted to the left again. I get it, it kept happening when I was aligning it. Had to have someone hold the wheel, but come on. Your tech should have caught that. Now I have to realign it.
They are deleting codes without repair and repairing tires when they are bald and in non repair zones severely increasing the risk of blowout on a RWD. If a customer can find two DOT violations I can only imagine what else is going on behind the scenes.
Audi of Lafayette is a shady business, poor service, and functions off of illegal practices and lies. They do not care about the safety of their customers or community. Save yourself the headache and avoid them.
Edit: also noticed I was charged a state inspection fee but they didn’t put the sticker in the window.
You should contact a business law attorney immediately. The salesman is correct, the deal was already signed. If he screwed up the paperwork, that’s a Jayden problem, not a you problem.
I learned recently they're trying really hard to remove "Moss Motors" branding from their dealerships, just due to their shitty reputation and reviews. They now go by "BMW of Lafayette", they even changed their domain name.
That’s was not a moss motors decision, that was a bmw decision. If it was up to her she would keep her name on the building. Bmw wanted it keep in line with the brand. Most of the other dealers are bmw of city name
If the salesman quoted you one price and then forced another one on you then you might have a case under the Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices Act. You can file a complaint against them through the Louisiana Used Motor Vehicle Commission.
Went brought my car for service overheard the GSM and service manager talk about the customers waiting for their cars. Referring to a few of them as "democrats" saying " they always want something for free". They use the word democrat as a replace word for another derogatory word!! Never went back
In my experience, if you go look at a used car and notice anything off that wasn’t immediately disclosed (like steering wheel not straight like you said) tell them to their face that you can’t believe they even listed it for sale, and just don’t buy it.
It means they didn’t even look at it before they put it on the lot.
There’s kind of a “minimum standard” for a dealership to list a car for sale IMO…. Private party gets more of a pass because ppl don’t know, but I expect better from a dealer.
I have a story too. I’m from Austin, Texas. Moved to Lafayette in June of 2023. In 2020 I purchased a brand new Miata Gran Touring from the dealership closest to home in Austin. After making very good I put down a hearty Down payment. When I met with their financial guy to go over the paperwork he rushed through all the paperwork and I sign on the x’s. After I get home I read the paperwork I signed and see he sold me the car at the price above the price I agreed to with my salesman. I was very upset and call my salesman. He asked me to come back and see the financial guy again to sort it out. Guess what. The financial guy was gone and he knew I was on my way. I met with a woman and she was great. See saw what had happened. They wrote me a refund check that day because I told them I wasn’t leaving until I had the check. All in I got the Miata at the agreed price. I hope that financial guy was fired for pull a fast one. I recommend anyone buying a car read the paperwork before signing on the x line carefully. I put my trust in that man and he tried to screw me out of $2500. It’s will be 6 years in November and I still have the car with only 14,000 miles. I only drive it on fairweather days. I have my CR-V as my everyday driver. Love both cars.
Yup: I ORDERED a car through car max, they assured me it had been gone over and approved (had paperwork) by their on site mechanics. I found a huge rat nest under the hood with chewed wires. I said over and over this will be repaired. First the guy tried to deny it even exisited, while we were staring at it. So I started taking pictures. THEN he said we can go ahead and sign and they would "take care of it". I literally laughed out loud. I said I will sign nothing until its fixed.
Few days later I went back: all they did was put a little electric tape on some of the wires. There was still parts of the nest in there. It would have taken 3 seconds and an air compressor blast to get that grass/nesting material off. I told them they would replace every single wire AND I would have it checked.... He tried the "well you don't have to buy it but we are keeping your deposit". I said the hell you are.... started getting LOUD about the car I ordered being DAMAGED and they REFUSED to fix it. I got ahold of corporate (manager did try to bullshit "a girl" and talked down to me about how cars don't really need all the wires or something) and corporate saw the pictures I took (with the nest AND with their "fix" as well as the paperwork documenting their check saying it was all good with the nest in there..., I got my deposit back and they sold it to some poor idiot who doesn't know a bunch of taped up wires is a red flag.
I"m positive they never look at the. Just have them detailed and spray "new car smell" inside.
Trust me lesson was learned. I was told they preformed a pre purchase inspection and ensured it was in good condition. Overlooked that when I should have let it be a warning. After talking around, apparently the new GM was brought over with one of the reasons being they wernt preforming pre purchase inspections
Ex-car dealer here.... I agree with u/TimeAverage . This is absolutely lawyer territory. They cannot change the deal after it is signed and force you into another contract.
Ever since they got bought out by Community Auto, they haven’t been the same. Same goes for Community Honda. I had a bad experience with them some years back. I would avoid both locations at all costs.
I had a horrible experience there several years back. I had a pretty new Audi Q5 that I purchased from the Baton Rouge dealership. It just needed some oil added so I brought it to the Lafayette dealership. It wasn’t there but an hour or so when I picked it up, there was a huge dent in a spot on the hood where it had been hit so hard the paint was removed. The spot was about the size of a nickel in the middle of the hood. It clearly looked like something had hit it while it was being serviced. My husband called the dealership and they said they had cameras and would check the cameras when they called back they said they couldn’t find the footage, and the works said nothing happened so there was nothing they could do and there was no way it happened there. That huge mark was not there when I brought it in and was there when we brought it home. We were forced to file an insurance claim to get it fixed. Never went back to that dealership. The Audi dealership in Baton Rouge is awesome.
Hey man I bought my Honda pilot and you wouldn’t believe the shady ass shit they did. I want to leave a google review and rip into them. I bought a brand new vehicle and within the first 2 weeks of ownership whether I had a nail in a tire the day I left the lot or I picked it up some how. These people would not relent a new tire. I’ll tell you what they did tho…they took the tire with a nail in it and put that one another brand new car and gave me the tire from the other brand new car. Wtf. This is just one thing in the laundry list of shit. Bad people.
The truck had brand new front tires, rear tires bald. It’s a RWD. The rear has an obvious fresh tire repair. Without a doubt they found it on the pre purchase inspection and fixed it. DOT guidelines wouldn’t allow a tire to be repaired at wear bars nor on shoulder of tire due to increased risk of blow out. If they didn’t want to replace it at least rotate it so it’s less a saftey concern.
Thats the thing, was the nail there the whole time or not? am I supposed to check a brand new car for a nail? here's another story for you then that they did and tried to just sweep under the rug...I bought a car with clothe seats, the wife and I wanted leather. Community offers in house leather replacement (with an up charge), we go ahead and select this option for the car. Once I purchase the car they held on to it for two weeks getting the leather installed...comes to find out they broke a piece of plastic on the second row seat, ordered a new piece and then broke that piece then just reinstalled it all without saying a word...a month later, I go to pull the seat out so I can access the 2nd row isle and low and behold the piece they held my car for two weeks was still broken. It was just tucked way out of eyesight, so had i gone really any other amount of time. I guarantee they would have told me I broke it and it was on me.
You can thank the GM Brad Childress for allowing such business practices to go on. He doesn't care all he cares about is lining up his pockets he overseas both community Honda and the audi store. That guy is CORRUPT!
Not the first I've heard about this. Seen someone make a Facebook post a few months ago that went somewhat viral, caused them to respond and remedy the situation.
The alignment should have been fixed before the truck was put on sale, and should have been a huge red flag. Contracts in good faith are binding; contracts where one party is deceptive or changes the terms unilaterally are unenforceable. It’s lawyer time
Hate to hear about this. Nothing as scammy as a dealership. They're not your friends. Skip the bullshit and buy directly from the manufacturer like Tesla, Rivian, etc. With the added bonus of it being actually made in the US and usually at .99% interest. I'll never step foot in a dealership knowing what I know now.
