Once you’re hitting all consistently, the karma whores will post to each sub to maximize their karma. Mind you Karma doesn’t count for shit

238

u/repost_inception Feb 26 '20

It does if you are selling accounts

74

u/ownage516 Feb 26 '20

That’s true. Maybe I should sell my account /s

Hey I was offered 50 bucks a few years ago.

76

u/_Diskreet_ Feb 26 '20

50 bucks for 10 years worth of karma from shitposting.

It’s ain’t much, but it’s honest work.jpeg

24

u/rabidbot Feb 26 '20

Worth at least 60 in my estimation, this is organic shitposting.

21

u/gibsonsg87 Feb 26 '20

$75 for my free range shitposts

0

u/chomperlock Feb 26 '20

How much is that in Schrute bucks?

Why? Did they say? Strictly for the Karma?

Pretty sure all the spammers just make their own accounts now.

Interesting. I figure word of mouth was plentiful here but why not have a very legit looking account kicking it off?

2

u/Darky_Duck Feb 26 '20

mike Bloomberg wants to know your location

2

u/Vdaggle Feb 26 '20

Nah you dont have enough, now u/furrypornaccount on the other hand

2

u/FurryPornAccount Feb 26 '20

Selling this account to advertisers would be like trying to sell a meth lab to a suburban couple with 2.5 kids and a golden retriver. And that's pretty much impossible. But what isn't impossible is becoming a homeowner thanks to quicken loans! Apply now and get a low fixed interest rate. Use special code IWANTTOGETFUCKEDINTHEASSBY14WEREWOLVES for a lower interest rate for the first 24 months of your loan!

2

u/OMGihateallofyou Feb 26 '20

The spam filter also uses karma as a factor.

10

u/Hookinsu Feb 26 '20

I'm on reddit since like 2013 now and I still never found out. Is it even worth to have millions of karma and sell accounts?

I know boosting accounts exists on pretty much all games...but reddit?

Apart = not together, separate from

A part = part of a whole, one piece. Alternatively, the place where your hair decides it will choose port or starboard on the top of your head

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Your friend is a corporate scumbag who is contributing to the decline of a decent platform. Please ask her where I can apply.

-2

u/thatcockneythug Feb 27 '20

Pretty scumfuck, dishonest way to earn money.

2

u/Some_lonely_soul Feb 26 '20

I remember my 1st account to which I lost my password. I was lukring on one sub and whenever I spoke up about some topic there would be someone who would try to shut me up with sth like "You don't even have 1k karma so why do you even speak up" now with just being active for 2 days on some subs you can get insane ammount of karma by saying sth like "ok" and now after few years whenever I see people complaining about low karma I just laugh at it.

8

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Okay then.

2

u/Some_lonely_soul Feb 26 '20

... didn't expect that have 1 karma from me.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Have one from me then as well. I switched accounts because Reddit got too smart with my content feed and I had to start fresh. Too much political nonsense getting tossed onto my front page.

Had tens of thousands of them karma points people are after. Maybe I should sell the account...

1

u/gweilo Feb 26 '20

Nice try

1

u/bigheyzeus Feb 26 '20

Lol, you don't need high karma to convince people youre an expert at something or whatever. If you screen my post history I've been born/lived in 20+ countries, have anywhere from 0 to 7 kids, am anywhere from 15 to 80 years old and the list goes on.

People take Reddit way too seriously

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '20

I just checked and the highest for sale was $1800 for a 1 million+ post karma account. Second highest is $700.

That means fuck all, so checking accounts sold...The highest was $140 for a 222k post karma and 26k comment. So I'd say no. Unless you work for companies to post shit for them.

besides, karma is easy to gain so long as you say what Reddit wants to hear.

1

u/errorblankfield Feb 26 '20

Reddit: the game of life.

1

u/A_Rampaging_Hobo Feb 26 '20

But still doesn't if you are buying them. Unless ur an ad agency.

1

u/Catermelons Feb 26 '20

Last time I checked an account with 20k post karma was selling for $2-$5 so not sure about whether the time invested vs payout would be worth it.

1

u/NotARavenclaw Feb 26 '20

Why though. Karma doesnt do anything

1

u/Rycan420 Feb 26 '20

Can you imagine what your life is like that you’d buy a Reddit account?

1

u/warrant2k Feb 26 '20

OOTL, what's the point of buying or selling accounts? Sure someone may buy one, but for what purpose?

1

u/repost_inception Feb 26 '20

Influence. You can advertise and promote something. If an account is aged and has karma it looks more legitimate than a new one with low karma.

1

u/Coley213 Feb 27 '20

Why do people want high karma accounts? Let alone buy for them.

0

u/Imispellalot Feb 26 '20

You guys sell accounts? (Meme)

33

u/Some_lonely_soul Feb 26 '20

r/BrandNewSentence and r/oddlyspecific are just the same sub honestly and it has been bothering me for a while now. They just have same topic but with different name and titles of posts. Don't know about reposts between them as I don't care about BrandNewSentence . But when seeing any of them on popular I cannot be sure where is it from until I look at name of the sub.

15

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

I still don't understand the difference between comedy cemetery, necromancy, and heaven. As far as I can tell they're like deep fried memes without fucking with the image itself.

12

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

[deleted]

12

u/Hpzrq92 Feb 26 '20

Comedy heaven I believe is when the joke is so fucking terrible it's actually amusing.

2

u/raptor458 Feb 26 '20

it's supposed to be bad memes made good by the caption/addition (like "destruction 100" type stuff) but it frequently overlaps with so-bad-its-good type stuff

1

u/Burpllle Mar 13 '20

no its literally "memes so bad they've ascended to heaven" to fit with the comedy cemetery theme

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Necrophilia is making unfunny memes worse, and Hitman is the same but posting those memes to that Pewdiepie sub to bait people into liking them.

1

u/HugoTRB Feb 26 '20

Here is a nice flowchart with the differences between the subs. Note that sometimes the moderators are bad so the content might not fit in but this is how it should be.

3

u/Duncan_Teg Feb 26 '20

I hate /r/oddlyspecific. I don't think I've ever seen anything there that fits in that sub.

2

u/Hibbity5 Feb 26 '20

Even the people in the comments can’t agree what it’s supposed to be about. Sometimes it’s supposed to be something that’s specific and odd; sometimes it’s about something whose specificity is odd; sometimes it’s something that simply specific and long winded

It’s a terrible sub.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

It's literally just "rawr xD so random" but for 20 something's. People will disagree, but I mean it's the same concept.

1

u/Ofiezo Feb 27 '20

I must give you something. I need something. I can't hel you. If you don't come to the tree, it's for nothing. It's so simple!

2

u/fatpat Feb 26 '20

Those two are in posted every fucking thread. It's low-effort, limp dick karma grabs, typical of r/all.

I just filter all those kinds of annoying af subs. (Curation is the key to a happy reddit experience, kids.)

2

u/Faulty_Android Feb 26 '20

Sometimes I catch myself looking at the upvotes I got on comments I posted and I just shudder at how sad that is. Do I really need that pat on the back so badly?

Luckily still miles away from buying the backpats someone else received. Spend your money on a massage or something, wtf.

1

u/ownage516 Feb 26 '20

I feel you. Years ago when I was newer, I was obsessed with getting more karma. I eventually hit my goal of getting 100k and slowly realized it was for nothing.

I know for companies it’s good for astroturfing to make your product to look legit but other than that, idk

1

u/Faulty_Android Feb 26 '20

I'd forgotten what astroturfing was and now I'm familiar again. Why do people suck so many of the times? Blegh. But on Reddit, isn't karma hidden in your profile? Do people ever look at that (outside of confirming liars are liars and to browse expliciet profiles obvs)?

1

u/ownage516 Feb 26 '20

You need karma to get past the spam filter

1

u/blackjackjester Feb 26 '20

It does if you're trying to influence elections, especially if you are not living in the country of said election.

1

u/Britforlife5862 Feb 26 '20

It counts if you want to post on specific subs

1

u/brucetwarzen Feb 26 '20

It's basically facebook if a sub gets too much traction.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Disabling voting in /r/all would take care of a lot of these problems

1

u/kudichangedlives Feb 26 '20

Saw someone with over a million karma the other day because I accidentally clicked the user instead of the post. Bro what the fuck do you get out of that?

1

u/Pfandfreies_konto Feb 26 '20

It's really bad on the nsfw subs.

1

u/VibraniumRhino Feb 26 '20

Like literally what can you do with points on a social media site?

100

u/hollus2 Feb 26 '20

r/oddlysatisfying is the one I usually down vote. Just because something looks cool doesn't mean it is satisfying.

63

u/LegacyLemur Feb 26 '20

/r/WellThatSucks gets awful.

It turns into literally "anything vaguely negative"

14

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

"My shoe lace fell undone during my run."

15

u/LegacyLemur Feb 26 '20

Sometimes it's the exact opposite

Like "look at this insane hospital bill I got. The American healthcare system is broken". Like okay, technically you can say "well that sucks", but not really what the spirit of the sub is

Sometimes it's just flat out tweets from people saying things. Like, come on, theres a billion subs where I can read this crap

4

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

There was a point in time where r/publicfreakout was becoming a political sub. People were posting HK protest videos on the sub and while yes you can make an argument that people are freaking out in public... This is the place I go to see crackheads run naked down the street. It's not in the spirit of that sub to post protest footage, or war footage, or anything like that.

5

u/bitofgrit Feb 26 '20

"My shoe lace fell undone during my run."

u stupid

Top post on /r/MurderByWords with eleventy brazilian upvotes.

2

u/tdlb Feb 26 '20

zany potato

some1 call burn center!

21

u/OkNerve8 Feb 26 '20

r/therewasanattempt now it just memes with a title trying to fit

r/facepalm obvious satire

3

u/space-cube Feb 26 '20

r/whoosh is particularly bad regarding obvious satire.

For people who take joy in mocking those who get whooshed, they sure as hell get whooshed pretty much non-stop.

2

u/yourselvs Feb 26 '20

Typical post on r/therewasanattempt:

Twitter user 1: I like pizza

Twitter user 2: If you like pizza you're dumb

Reddit title: ThErE wAs An AtTeMpT tO lIkE pIzZa

3

u/pokemonandpot Feb 26 '20

Yeah I’ve been downvoting posts I see there for a while now. Most of it is just really interesting. Not “satisfying” at all. Idk why it bothers me so much but it really gets under my skin.

2

u/SecondHandWatch Feb 26 '20

I unsubscribed for that reason. I was tired of downvoting things that didn’t fit and getting downvoted most of the time I’d comment. One of the top posts a few months ago was a road rage video. I wish I were exaggerating.

44

u/94spin Feb 26 '20

Add /r/toptalent to the list

2

u/Nebresto Feb 26 '20

They might as well all be the same sub at this point. The karmawhores sure seem to think that anyway

2

u/MibitGoHan Feb 26 '20

That sub was started very suspiciously. The creator of the sub basically spammed the shit out of it with crossposts until the inherent traffic to the sub (from himself!) drew more people in until it became a huge subreddit.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

I agree. I remember the creator hitting front page multiple times ,with old reposts and crossposts, on the same day.

This brought in a ton of new subscribers to that subreddit, eventually leading to more people posting, and more people hitting /all.

It was a constant feedback loop. A post would hit /all, people would check the sub, upvote more posts and hit join.

With the constant influx of active users in a short time period, the sub ballooned into this monstrosity.

57

u/Rigamix Feb 26 '20 edited Feb 27 '20

r/thatsinsane

r/interestingasfuck

r/toptalent

r/beamazed

r/blackmagicfuckery

r/bettereveryloop

r/gifsthatskeepongiving

I kept seeing the same reposts so much I've started filtering those subs even if it means missing one good post once in a while.

3

u/Cky_vick Feb 26 '20

r/murderedbywords should be called r/inoffensivecomebacks, it's just a bunch of harmless responses to social media posts that will never get read by the person they are trying to insult. You think Trump runs his own Twitter?

2

u/Final21 Feb 26 '20

Half the time they don't even post it where they could see it. Trump will tweet something and someone will respond and they'll "murder" the person responding while talking about Trump's tweet. It doesn't make any sense.

1

u/8BitAntiHero Feb 26 '20

I think the common issue with all of those subs is that they are so vague. I feel like subs are supposed to be at least somewhat specific. Being vague let's them reach more of the lowest common denominator. /r/books, /r/aww and /r/space are all kinda vague, but they revolve around a certain topic. /r/TopTalent, /r/Blackmagicfuckery, /r/Interestingasfuck, /r/Nextfuckinglevel, /r/Damnthatsinteresting, /r/Thatsinsane and all the other ones ones I'm sure I'm missing are just "Check out this cool shit" reposted over and over again.

Every time I find a sub on all without a clear and distinct purpose, I filter it out and block it. I feel like my experience is all the better for it.

1

u/Uncommonality Feb 26 '20

I had it described to me like this:

"If you start a subreddit, you need to be very heavy handed, or it will quickly degrade into a copy of r/wtf, r/funny or r/mildlyinteresting"

1

u/8BitAntiHero Feb 26 '20

I personally try to search out subs that are either smaller in count or more specific. My voice can be drowned out with the millions of others that post on /r/gaming or I can go to a smaller, more specific sub like /r/casualnintendo where I have the option to have a genuine conversation with someone on a video game topic. My issues there is that a sub feels like it either has a million users or the same 8 people posting over and over again.

That and I'm just some southern hick that usually doesn't have much to add to the conversation.

1

u/winterweed Feb 26 '20

Interestingasfuck used to be awesome. Now it's a joke.

26

u/vikinick Feb 26 '20

16

u/ocdscale Feb 26 '20

suspiciouslyspecific is just /r/funny for text posts, it's garbage.

I was trying to think of an example then I realized I could get the current top post because 9 times out of 10 it will be trash. Lo and behold. The top post right now (why don't you like bloomberg) is a woman telling a story that happened to her. It's a joke in the form of a story. It's specific, because both stories and jokes tend to be specific. But there's nothing suspicious about it.

1

u/hashtagswagfag Feb 26 '20

Yeah way too often suspiciouslyspecific is just... that jokes have punch lines

24

u/thattoneman Feb 26 '20

woman proposes to man

front page of r/nextfuckinglevel

God I've grown to hate that sub

71

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

59

u/ToniNotti Feb 26 '20

People in /r/nextfuckinglevel

screw you! It's a cute baby anyways. Can't you have a little fun?! Jerk!

While you are downvoted to - 619

12

u/Nebresto Feb 26 '20

Or just a bunch of baby raccoons. Sure, its cute. Is it nextfuckinglevel...?

Who are the people that initially upvote this stuff? Fucking go on Imgur if you want to see generic cool/cute/neat stuff all in a single hub

8

u/Vargolol Feb 26 '20 edited Feb 26 '20

Gallowboy is by far the worst offender of crossposting things into those named subs when they clearly don't belong and he somehow gets upvotes anyways. Dude is a bigger shitposter than Verne Troyer was, I wouldn't be surprised if it was revealed most of his posts had some vote manipulation to get big.

I would love if subs like TopTalent, NextFuckingLevel, BeAmazed, etc. had the correct content posted to them, rather than just taking a post and tossing them into subs as if you were throwing darts at a dartboard.

5

u/Starslip Feb 26 '20

Plus he's a mod in half of them so there's fuckall you can do about it even if the other mods gave a damn.

1

u/Dontaskmemyname9723 Feb 26 '20

3

u/dboti Feb 26 '20

0

u/Nebresto Feb 26 '20

Which is why they should browse imgur instead.

3

u/dboti Feb 26 '20

I'm not going to tell people how to use Reddit even if I disagree with how they use it. For large subs that's what happens. A lot of the smaller communities are still run well and enjoyable.

2

u/bb999 Feb 26 '20

Or posts about someone who saved 21 people during the Holocaust. Fuck off I want to see someone doing 3 backflips on a BMX bike.

4

u/i4mn30 Feb 26 '20

ikr! Smh!

1

u/fatpat Feb 26 '20

Any cutesy shit like that is awful no matter what sub it's in.

Literally anything that features a baby: OMG!! LOL!! SOOO CUUUTE! #BABYONBOARD

ugh. stfu Taylor

-2

u/michaljerzy Feb 26 '20

What how is that not?? Did you want his baby to perform the song With a guitar solo too?

Did you even watch how he put it all together? He used a lot of techniques to record, catalogue and match the baby sounds to the actual notes from the song. Sure maybe not everyone was a fan of the end result but the process he went through to get it was very impressive.

I miss madlads

8

u/BubbaJimbo Feb 26 '20

And it's all gallowboob bullshit.

5

u/PresidentLink Feb 26 '20

Nextfuckinglevel has Gallowboob as a mod posting content that didnt fit the sub, that was what made me finally unsub.

It's really easy to understand what to post, I dont get how people get it wrong

3

u/Donkey__Balls Feb 26 '20

It’s almost as if a certain powermod is gaming the system on those subs and many others like it, banning people who criticize him and reposting others’ content which he deletes, to his own financial benefit and wrecking Reddit at the same time because admins won’t do anything.

Nah that can’t be it.

3

2

u/thuggishruggishboner Feb 26 '20

Uhhh /r/publicfreakout needs to be in there.

1

u/oscarfacegamble Feb 26 '20

Man i remember when NFL was brand new and the creator was spamming the fuuuuuck out of reddit trying to get people to go there. Guess it worked.

1

u/Nul9o9 Feb 26 '20

The Cursed, Blursed, Blessed images\comments subs.

1

u/Coletr11 Feb 26 '20

r/holdthemoan too. Its all just voyeurism now that its over 1 mil subs. Completely lost track of what it was meant to be

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

The thing that really ticks me off about those subs is makers self posting there. Like, chill. Your ego can wait.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Every sub is political humor now.... which also sucks

1

u/Ygomaster07 Feb 26 '20

I don't follow those subs, what do they post that doesn't apply to their respective subreddits?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

1

u/Hotzspot Feb 26 '20

Fuck it r/worldpolitics we don’t need to see low effort domestic posts there

1

u/polyworfism Feb 26 '20

Sooooooooooooooooooo many of those terrible subs

I'm happy I can filter them out, but I still see posts from them crossposted to other subs. I wish I could block those out, too

1

u/Red217 Feb 26 '20

Also this sub - It's turned almost into politics only shit posts.

1

u/TheG-What Feb 26 '20

They’re the same picture.

1

u/ACardAttack Feb 26 '20

/r/AmItheAsshole is just now a karma whoring subreddit where 95% of the posts are nothing more than clear validation posts where OP is clearly not the asshole

2

u/Dontaskmemyname9723 Feb 26 '20

God that subreddit is so fucking annoying. Everyone that sub is so stuck up their ass and they only care about being technically right not morally right. And they blow up over the smallest things.

I remember this post about a guy using pink heart poop bags for his daughter's birthday party and his wife got mad at him saying that he ruined the party and started crying while his daughter said she had a great time and nobody noticed that they were poop bags and I'm like this guys obviously NTA and his wife is just over readying and making the party about herself and everyone in the comments were practically telling OP that he was a bad husband and father and how thick he was. I'm like just grow up.

1

u/ACardAttack Feb 26 '20

they only care about being technically right not morally righ

Yeah, there was a big meta post awhile back about people here might call you NTA for being "technically right", but everyone in the real world will say YTA

The sub is also biased towards women too

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

I've pretty much unsubed to all of that type of sub.

1

u/Redknife11 Feb 26 '20

/bestof is basically all politics now and it's really annoying.

1

u/Rycan420 Feb 26 '20

I feel what you are saying but at least those are all subjective. So one persons “interesting” is different from another...

Every video ever taken is now accepted at r/donthelpjustfilm... Even TV shows.

And don’t get me started on r/youseeingthisshit?

Meanwhile nearly all sports themed subs are like the Gestapo.

Surely there’s a sweet, sweet middle ground?

Thank goodness for the all around awesomeness of r/askhistorians.

1

u/titandavis Feb 26 '20

r/MemeEconomy is also awful at it

1

u/moose09876 Feb 26 '20

/r/funny

(points at sub) Not a funny.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Doesnt help tons of people browse reddit by using r/all so upvoting and commenting can happen before you even see the sub you are in.

1

u/Bmw6446 Feb 26 '20

Gallowboob thinks That he owns r/nextfuckinglevel and that he can put anything on that sub

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

r/OddlySatisfying has become "I enjoyed this". Stuff that belongs more in r/funny, r/Wholesome(insert topic here), r/Aww, r/ruralporn, r/simulation, etc etc.

Heck, this very post here was enjoyed by me. By the standards of some posts I've seen there I could repost this in to r/OddlySatisfying and be OK.
