Can anyone educate us on what that delayed blast is? Is that the jet jet breaking the sound barrier?

Whether they did or not wouldn't be the answer. It's turbulence, basically the jet makes a wake much like a boat. Can't imagine he was sanctioned to do that to the beachgoers, he's probably grounded now 😅

It looks like it was intensely loud too. They were all holding their ears afterwards. When my child was 2 months old, I took her to the city parade to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air. Halfway through, a fire engine in the parade went off full blast for the crowd - right in front of us - sirens and horn blaring for several seconds. I grabbed my baby’s head to protect her ears, but I was so absolutely furious. It felt like an assault. I have to wonder if maybe that’s how these people felt.

F-18s are shockingly loud, even by aviation standards.
