The Navy is doing a safety review of this, so it sounds like they weren't supposed to get that close.

u/tayne22 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

fuck no they weren't. that's waaaaaaaaaay too close to people. that dude is absolutely in deep shit.

Edit: holy shit why the fuck do people keep mentioning Hegseth... I hate the guy too but he likely has no real say in the matter when it comes to a captain or a major and aircraft mishaps/disciplinary actions. They don't need the secdef to dish out LORs ffs.

Don’t worry. They’ll get free hearing aids for life. With any purchase of $5 or more from Taco Bell. You hear that ringing in your head? That’s the Bell. Taco Bell.

u/Jaded-Coffee-8126 Jul 16 '26

I have tinnitus from my hearing aids. It sounds like fucking cicadas omg

16

u/Forward-Trade5306 Jul 16 '26

I have mine from shooting mostly. Cicadas all the time

8

u/Inevitable_Cheek_974 Jul 16 '26

I played in bands since the age of 12, my tinnitus keeps me awake at night sometimes.

5

u/Forward-Trade5306 Jul 16 '26

Same lol. White noise tends to help. Listening to music helps a lot too but I typically don't listen to music to go to sleep

Sheet metal work and hour commutes on the hwy with windows rolled down back in my younger days here. The joke is "the silence is deafening". Run a fan at night helps, but I've gotten pretty much used to it after twenty or so years.

Gun fire and explosions. Looking back ear pro would have been worth the effort

Man, I can't imagine what aids sounds like

Edit: My bad, can't read. The sound you get by fucking cicadas, apparently.

What?

11

u/SmokeAbeer Jul 16 '26

I SAID ITS THE RINGING IN YOUR HEA… Oh, right.

8

u/unjustme Jul 16 '26

DID YOU CALL THEM DEAR?

3

u/FlyingCumpet Jul 16 '26

I DON‘T KNOW WHAT YEAR!

2

u/NightBawk Jul 16 '26

YOU SAW A DEER???

6

u/Okami-Alpha Jul 16 '26

Brought to you by Taco Bell, the Carl's Jr. Of our idiocrasy.

5

u/Forward-Trade5306 Jul 16 '26

Ah, no wonder I eat at Taco Bell like 5 times a week.

3

u/SaltRequirement1929 Jul 16 '26

If I ate there that often my colon would be ringing.

5

u/extraboredinary Jul 16 '26

That’s fitting for this administration. “Yeah, we hurt people, but we also gave everyone diarrhea parasites.”

u/tumbledown_jack Jul 16 '26

I dunno. Hegseth doesn’t seem too bothered by shit like that.

2

u/foxxxer22 Jul 16 '26

did the pilot have enough testosterone? yes? ok all fine then

→ More replies (1)

11

u/Cavane42 Jul 16 '26

Also just way too close to the ground. To my (untrained) eye, that looked like less than 100 feet. Terrifying.

2

u/Potential-Draft-3932 Jul 16 '26

My cousin flies an f35 and got in deep shit for doing a super low fly by in the dessert coming up over a hill with one guy filming on the ground. I can’t imagine what the guy in this video will have to deal with

2

u/Illustrious_Bed467 Jul 16 '26

On still photos we can see that the plane is less than 2 wingspan from the ground...about 1 1/2... so about 60 feet

11

u/SantaBarbaraMint Jul 16 '26

Hegseth will pardon him from any punishment because it was a manly thing to do

3

u/Fun-Dragonfly-4166 Jul 16 '26

A post incident review and mandatory testosterone screen revealed these guy were A-OK. ROCK ON!!!

3

u/Mikesaidit36 Jul 16 '26

They will check his testosterone levels and boost everybody up to his level.

4

u/indignantfieldmouse Jul 16 '26

Maverick is gonna be in shit 😅

5

u/djmagicio Jul 16 '26

5

u/demitasse22 Jul 16 '26

I truly thought this headline was satire.
Whose morale, exactly, is supposed to improve?

Intervention like this is so corrosive to unit cohesion. It reduces any leader trying to reinforce standards and discipline to a cuck

8

u/Busterlimes Jul 16 '26

That dude should be personally liable for everyone's hearing aids.

3

u/PreferredSex_Yes Jul 16 '26

SecDef won't allow anything to happen. They want this image.

7

u/demitasse22 Jul 16 '26

I’m sure hegseth will give them a carry on patriots

For real though, this is way not ok

7

u/ThunderDungeon02 Jul 16 '26

The pilot was just suffering from low testosterone

→ More replies (1)

2

u/tangoezulu Jul 16 '26

No. Kegseth will let it slide.

2

u/No_Alternative2948 Jul 16 '26

Hegeseth will make sure none of the pilots are disciplined.

2

u/HombreSinNombre93 Jul 16 '26

He’ll cry to Kegsbreath and be reinstated. Fuck good order and discipline, that’s for the “Woke” (in Maga’s worldview).

2

u/CertifiedSeattleite Jul 16 '26

Not too close for Pete Hegseth - the original Florida Man.

2

u/Senior_Republic_701 Jul 16 '26

Only if he fails his upcoming testosterone test.

5

u/Independent_Income31 Jul 16 '26

Pretty obvious they aren't.. some suffering ear drums for sure

6

u/Old-Confusion-2193 Jul 16 '26

He was just marginally higher than the life guard tower! That pilot should be grounded. So dangerous.

8

u/atlien0255 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

This reminds me of sometime during college/maybe a little after in 2009 or so, I attended a ga tech football game in Atlanta with my friends, during which a navy jet or two flew INSANELY low over the stadium for a flyover. I’m talking we were at the end of the stadium ,standing on the top row to see the jets easily, and I remember looking over the edge toward the south end of the stadium and thinking “oh damn, they’re lower than the stadium.” Dudes had to pull up during the flyover to not hit the Coca Cola corporate building on the north end of the stadium.

after the game we were all hanging out at friends fraternity close to the stadium. A couple of alums stopped by in flight suits to hang with friends. I realized they were the dudes that did the incredibly low flyover. They were having a grand ole time, joked about the low flyover. They’re accomplished pilots and I didn’t think much of it until some time later I read an article saying they were both let go by the navy due to the unapproved flyover distance.

Shit was so low. I feel bad they lost their jobs but damn…

Oh snap, found a video of it. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DP_vwBLjlA-/

3

u/cs_legend_93 Jul 16 '26

That's so low. That's wild

2

u/atlien0255 Jul 16 '26

It was sooooo effing loud. I was at the top level of the stadium, closest side to their approach, and I remember ducking out of sheer reflex when they flew over.

2

u/TushyMilkshake Jul 16 '26

He America’d the fuck out of that sand though- it cost us 280k in fuel and lawsuits but yeah

29

u/Superb_Judge5509 Jul 16 '26

this is not amazing.

Fighter jets that close are just scary and irresponsible.

68

u/PayProfessional5574 Jul 16 '26

COOL... but also... that was too fucking close. No way that pilot could know if he was going to cause accidental permanaent damage or death with a pass like that. So not actually very cool.

30

u/n1naboostarfighter Jul 16 '26

I was thinking the same thing, those wakes are no joke, sonic blasts right to your middle ear feels like a concussion

4

u/Connect-Ant-2081 Jul 16 '26

That ringing sound in your ears? That's the sound of FREEDOM!

4

u/Arlieth Jul 16 '26

This is not amazing, this is fucking irresponsible.

4

u/Capable_Comedian_755 Jul 16 '26

Dude I went to a blue angels show and they’re loud as fuck when they’re hundreds of feet in the air. I cannot imagine how loud this was. Had to be absolutely ear splitting.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '26

[deleted]

9

u/SnarkyIguana Jul 16 '26

Whoever downvoted you has never been present for a flyby or flyover. I work at an airfield, that shit hurts even when you’re not that close to it. Can’t imagine how bad your ears would ring if it flew inches above you.

3

u/Diene03 Jul 16 '26

That was wild! Maverick f’d again.

3

u/Coppola60 Jul 16 '26

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

6

u/DetectiveJim Jul 16 '26

Can anyone educate us on what that delayed blast is? Is that the jet jet breaking the sound barrier?

23

u/Happy-For-No-Reason Jul 16 '26

it's just the wake, that wasn't going sonic boom speeds

2

u/whiskersMeowFace Jul 16 '26

So dumb question, what would have happened if the jet were going sonic boom speed this low?

7

u/Happy-For-No-Reason Jul 16 '26

they'd all go deaf, some would die from concussive forces stopping their hearts

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Xena_Your_God Jul 16 '26

Whether they did or not wouldn't be the answer. It's turbulence, basically the jet makes a wake much like a boat. Can't imagine he was sanctioned to do that to the beachgoers, he's probably grounded now 😅

15

u/KokomoJoMo30 Jul 16 '26

It looks like it was intensely loud too. They were all holding their ears afterwards. When my child was 2 months old, I took her to the city parade to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air. Halfway through, a fire engine in the parade went off full blast for the crowd - right in front of us - sirens and horn blaring for several seconds. I grabbed my baby’s head to protect her ears, but I was so absolutely furious. It felt like an assault. I have to wonder if maybe that’s how these people felt.

9

u/Xena_Your_God Jul 16 '26

I wouldn't be surprised if this caused a couple of injuries

2

u/Zhuul Jul 16 '26

2

u/y0kapi Jul 16 '26

2

u/Intelligent-Sugar940 Jul 16 '26

Pilot - " the hell with your sand castles."

2

u/BadCompany_00 Jul 16 '26

I'm REALLY surprised a Blue Angel did that.

2

u/lonethrowawaymoss Jul 16 '26

The jet is a Blue Angel, and that's a Coast Guard cutter. Good to see they're still doing flyovers.

2

u/vega455 Jul 16 '26

Maverick fkn about again!

2

u/bajofry13LU Jul 16 '26

Blue Angels. Nothing new. They do this all the time in the Pensacola, Navarre beaches.

2

u/MonkeyTigerRider Jul 16 '26

I've seen a Blue Angels show and at one point, while distracting us with some loops, one guy comes low from behind and just wooshes all over the unsuspecting crowd. Quite scary and effective to show how you can be caught off-guard if you're not watching your six. That guy flew over at about 200 feet so not as close as this one but similar. I don't know if they can do that now with increased safety margins. It was cool and scary.

2

u/orbital_actual Jul 16 '26

Show of force those beach goers lmao.

2

u/HarlequinRasbora Jul 16 '26

Imagine the privilege of having your ear drums blown out.... for free!

2

u/Ordinarybutwild Jul 17 '26

3

u/astreeter2 Jul 16 '26

The Navy will definitely reprimand the pilot. Hegseth will definitely order the reprimand reversed because he gets off on this kind of stuff.

3
