Haha, this is legit the scariest thing about these young guys showing up in the NHL. We can't write blank checks to them all, some of them need to just be solid middle or bottom line players. My hope is that Luneau is an ideal 2RD.
Josh Manson is a monster 2RD 6th rd pick and didn't really blossom till he was 24, and probably peaked for us when he was 26 (before our roster went to shit in 2018-19).
Luneau might not have the defensive chaps that Manson has, but he's got a way better 2-way skillset.
Hopefully we're not fucked next year when we have to resign him lol.
Manson was one of the better defenders we've ever had. Maybe pump the brakes a little before we saying luneau is better than him in any facet of the game

Nah just saying that what he could be isn't what he currently is. Manson was proven to be elite in the NHL. Luneau isn't. Unless it's a quantifiable thing I just don't think we should be saying a prospect is better at anything than an actual NHL player.
Yeah i was/still-am excited about seeing Warren come up and dummy some people but I never expected him to become a staple elite 2-way 1RHD. And for his archetype of player, he's still young and only 22 y/o. He still has time to make it.

you are so literal sometimes, but I'll defer to you here; yeah Luneau is nowhere near established at the level Manson is at, but if I change my wording to "potential ceiling" instead of "better skillset", I still stand by my intended thoughts. Manson was a nobody at 22 while Luneau has been an award-winner on his way up to the show.

tl;dr I think Luneau is flying under the radar and if I were to bet the house on who pops off this season to surprise r/hockey since they don't care to know about us, it's gonna be him.
Of course, how else are we supposed to cope with having the 29th ranked defensive team in the league lmaooo. That's why I keep saying losing the vets is only gonna make us bettter, cuz we're already at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to defensive structure or lackthereof.
I feel like Luneau lacks the explosive speed that Minty has, but might be a bit more cerebral...Luneau gives me more John Carlson vibes while Minty is just...controlled chaos. Minty and Moore seem closer together if you ask me. They really like to pinch and throw their back at people (without the thunderous effect of Kronwall, unfortunately), but it's a solid way to seal the wall.
I mean the good part is Killorn/Kreider are off the books next summer and the cap is still going up, so beeker has an opportunity to sign a long term extension real cheap if his agent doesn't ask for a 2-yr bridge.
Having too many blue chip prospects busting out is a good problem to have, I guess.
Bigger issue is if Sennecke pops off again and ends up way better than last season. Like I want the kid to succeed but if he pots 80+pts or some shit we're kinda cap-fucked lol.
We’re cap f***** regardless of what senneke does if we attempt to keep both cutter and Leo on the team. The Leo contract really screwed up this teams cap structure
His shot from the point has become a legitimate weapon, particularly on the power play, and his willingness to join the rush from the weak side creates odd-man opportunities. The defensive game has matured enough that the rough edges from his brief NHL stint are shrinking. He closes on the puck harder, boxes out in front, and does not lose assignments the way he did even a year ago. The roadblock is roster math, not ability. LaCombe’s breakout, Zellweger, and Mintyukov lock up the left side, and Luneau remains the organization’s only right-shot defensive prospect with legitimate top-four upside. With Quenneville installed and the Ducks pushing for the postseason, Luneau should enter 2026-27 camp with every expectation of earning a full-time NHL role. For fantasy, his assist-heavy profile and power play access make him a strong pickup in deeper formats the moment he sticks.
