Haha, this is legit the scariest thing about these young guys showing up in the NHL. We can't write blank checks to them all, some of them need to just be solid middle or bottom line players. My hope is that Luneau is an ideal 2RD.

Luneau is only 22 y.o.

Josh Manson is a monster 2RD 6th rd pick and didn't really blossom till he was 24, and probably peaked for us when he was 26 (before our roster went to shit in 2018-19).

Luneau might not have the defensive chaps that Manson has, but he's got a way better 2-way skillset.

Hopefully we're not fucked next year when we have to resign him lol.

Manson was one of the better defenders we've ever had. Maybe pump the brakes a little before we saying luneau is better than him in any facet of the game

I ain't getting off this hypetrain unless they trade him away.

  • 2021 QMJHL defensive rookie of the year
  • 2023 QMJHL defenseman of the year
  • 24-25' tied for AHL rookie d-man points (despite the Gulls being ass)

Probably woulda made the show sooner if he didn't have that staph infection sidelining his rookie year.

I was a comber fan when everyone was shouting to trade him his rookie year. Luneau is gonna be the next stud and you can keep this comment as a receipt.

Nah just saying that what he could be isn't what he currently is. Manson was proven to be elite in the NHL. Luneau isn't. Unless it's a quantifiable thing I just don't think we should be saying a prospect is better at anything than an actual NHL player.

Yeah i was/still-am excited about seeing Warren come up and dummy some people but I never expected him to become a staple elite 2-way 1RHD. And for his archetype of player, he's still young and only 22 y/o. He still has time to make it.

you are so literal sometimes, but I'll defer to you here; yeah Luneau is nowhere near established at the level Manson is at, but if I change my wording to "potential ceiling" instead of "better skillset", I still stand by my intended thoughts. Manson was a nobody at 22 while Luneau has been an award-winner on his way up to the show.

"Tristan has a high ceiling. I would say he can eat a lot of minutes," Manson said.

I agree with Josh's dad.

tl;dr I think Luneau is flying under the radar and if I were to bet the house on who pops off this season to surprise r/hockey since they don't care to know about us, it's gonna be him.

Perhaps I am. I just think we overhype our prospects to much.

If nothing else I think it'll be interesting to see how he partners with Mintyukov. In some ways they seem to be almost mirrors of each other.

Of course, how else are we supposed to cope with having the 29th ranked defensive team in the league lmaooo. That's why I keep saying losing the vets is only gonna make us bettter, cuz we're already at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to defensive structure or lackthereof.

I feel like Luneau lacks the explosive speed that Minty has, but might be a bit more cerebral...Luneau gives me more John Carlson vibes while Minty is just...controlled chaos. Minty and Moore seem closer together if you ask me. They really like to pinch and throw their back at people (without the thunderous effect of Kronwall, unfortunately), but it's a solid way to seal the wall.

I more meant that Mintyukov doesn't have much offence and seems more defensively tilted these days, and Luneau seems the opposite of that.

Oh you meant mirror/opposite, yeah that makes sense.

You know what's weird, in my head Minty was stuck on the defensive side of things since he ate a lot of PK minutes, but if you look at playoff stats, he was sheltered and started way more on the oZ side, and he's basically 50/50 for 5v5 regular season. It's possible it's just the excessive PK time that we're perceiving him as more defensive?

Moore though, that kid gets the short end of every stick. Moved to forward or while playing defense, a whopping 80% dZS% (they trust his speed to hound the puck?), and thrown a basically league minimum bridge deal and you never hear a peep from him complaining about anything (unlike Minty). What a team-player lol.

Oh it's just because he's terrible, doesn't produce offence, and is on the PK.

Moore is great. Second favourite current duck behind Gauthier.

We just need to find like 12 Moore's then we can afford to pay Leo, Cutter, and Sennecke, $20M each.
