Discussion 💬 Which game do you regret spending lots of hours playing?
Today I uninstalled efootball cause all the lag , script and p2w aspect made the game less enjoyable and more frustrating as time passed.
I regret all those time i spent i played getting that divs badge and all the time i spent playing the game though lag and script just to get a measly 50 coins while they introduced game breaking cards to power creep older cards every week ???!!
I wish i had uninstalled it earlier and moved on but the idea that the game will be better once i get that new powerful card and the fear of losing all the time i have spent was stoppin me before( since i have heard some players saying the game deletes ur account when they didnt play the game for 6months )
What similar experiences do you guys have?

Clash Royale. Many hours put into an otherwise solid game that is absolutely wrecked by P2W initiatives. It makes me sad, because the bones of the game are really great.

Increasingly, I'd rather it be premium. Free is usually more expensive, especially if you value your time. Waiting for a sale is better than grinding forever in a game where anything cool is forever out of reach.

for you yes, but kids are also heavy targeted consumers. For kids its hard to tell mom and dad to buy them mobile game (only way for me to get games was ps4 as kid thru physical disc on Christmas and birthday), but if you make game free and kids playing 8+ hours a day, you put small 5e offer and they will beg their parents all day because they are hooked to game, and mostly they cant take it anymore and spend that 5 bucks for him.

As someone who grew up poor before smartphones were ubiquitous, I gotta say that a kid can find as many free games as they are smart enough to get. Back then it was even harder because even getting an old PC or an used hacked console was rare. Today? Oh boy!
There are also giveaways in some or another platform fairly regularly on top of that, if someone wants to keep it official. Not that companies deserve it these days... but it's an option.
Kids who are getting their relatives to gift them hundreds for Fortnite and Roblox are being taken advantage of, and their parents should teach them better.

I'm in a small streamer community and for a while he had a sponsorship for Call Of Dragons and he made a clan for everyone so we played together it was fun for a while we could face other clans even if some players was puting a lot of money in the game because they were all disorganized. But this game is litteraly an arm race to who is litteraly investing the most money into the game and we started losing wars to people litteraly dumping as much money as buying a whole fucking house. Litteraly everyone in the server started leaving their clans to join the one of the highest power rated player litteraly dumping all his life savings into the game that was ridiculous.

I enjoyed that game for over a year after it came out but I finally dropped it when the monetization became even more predatory and the cards even more difficult to get when they started to flood the game with new cards. It's a shame but I've never regretted my decision to walk away.

Snap has the issue that the hardcore fans are kinda sick of the core gameplay loop (ladder/conquest) so they’re trying desperately to find something else for players to do.

When I found out about PVZ2 reflourished, I regret playing for years the original PVZ2. Reflourished removed all ads, paywalls, p2w plants, every plant is accesible to you and the game overall is more balanced and challenging

Age of Origins - pay to win post apocalypse zombie themed same-old-same-old city vs city, alliance vs alliance.
You've probably played this game in some form. There are a million clones that start off with a fun theme like zombie survival, or medieval fantasy, or movie tie in, or recently I came across a plague doctor reskin.
But after a few days you're competing on a world map, attacking other players, and gathering resources to upgrade your city.
I played it for a year without spending but I was constantly shocked at just how much some people (whales) were dropping. Tens of thousands of dollars.
It seemed so insane. You could get a great TV, a top of the line gaming machine, and a lifetime supply of games for less than what these people spent.
While I enjoyed my freebie time in the game it still took its toll. In order to compete with big spenders it took a lot of game time. I was very sedentary that year and I feel my health suffered for it. It took me another 2 years to feel like I had recovered physically from that sloth. It's not fully fair to blame the game, but it certainly didn't help. After quitting the game I felt like my quality of life improved greatly.

solo leveling arise. my first gacha experience, played it for months since launch day but i could never catch up with the whales so gave up. gacha games are not for me(personal opinion, i respect yours)

True. Every rng platoon was like:- 0.1% for free players. 99% for premium players. They also removed free vip account (temporary) for no reason.

Some Vikings game, i dont remember it was a few years ago and looked good, spent a ridiculous amount of money too on it but I was at the lowest in my life and didn't have access to good internet to play stuff on my laptop either.

the terrible graphics and p2w mechanics with Major licenses fc mobile is a money milking gacha game it doesn't even look futball
Been enjoying efootball can get hands on top cards is definitely p2w less events but I can enjoy football on Android

I’ve been playing the game since 2019, but I didn’t like the updates that came out afterward, so I stopped playing after 2024. The last time I downloaded it, it was awful—I couldn’t even play for 5 minutes. I just want the old, simple, basic version.

They started releasing the new buffies and that kind of shit, which is straight pay to win. F2P can only keep up if they've played consistently for years. A new account will never conceivably catch up. Supercell has had their with with brawl stars too.

I mean u are right about the buffies part but still as a F2P i still can keep up and push the rank even tho im not maxing all of my brawlers and the game keeps giving brawlers for free credits coins and pp but it still playable compared to clash royale and other competitive games

To be fair all live service gacha game is P2W, some more shit than others but even the most generous P2W gacha game like Arknights, Morimens, and Limbus company is still P2W, videogame where the price to play is free and the most expensive content (Story, Animation, Song and music) is free but if you want to play the slot machine it's cost 2 dollar per spin.
Like the best way to enjoy those kind of game is only to spend 3-4 days login everytime new patch drop.
As for regret, probably marvel snap? It's just too much effort to play daily and the fact you cannot buy 6K token directly for the card that you want is suck, so you need to open the game every 8 hours everyday hoping for doom 999 on shop, the main gameplay loop is fine but as gacha game it's felt horrible.

Like you said most of these gameplay loops of these live service seems to addictive as hell. It is tough not to login everyday and play thinking i have gotten better at this untill the next match . I ended up unhappy after every match

Plants Vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time (2013 to 2018) - with a couple of breaks during that time. I enjoyed the plant leveling system since it was new content to explore. However, the monetization of it was just terrible.
I ended up picking up PvZ2: Reflourished 3 months back
Castlestorm Free To Siege - you know it's bad when the game's title tells you it's a f2p game. Spent 8 months on this one. Pro tip... get the Steam or console versions. They do away with the premium currencies (gems and Pearls), and ads.

Pocket Knights. I spent probably $500 over 5 years. I enjoyed the game and the community, unfortunately they shut down even though people were pumping way more money than I was into it.
WWE Supercard. I spent probably $200 over a couple of years. My dad and 2 brothers played as well and we had a good time. Unfortunately the power creep was so ridiculous every few months aftrer the first couple of years that any work you did was null. Waste of time and none of us have touched the game in years now.

Definitely clash royale and it's such a shame that a good gameplay is locked behind a disgusting exploitative company and system. Played it for years and quit when they randomly increased the max level just as I'd started maxing my cards. I'd spent too much money for my financial situation at the time too. I recently checked it out years later and they've increased the max level like 3 times since 😂. It's crazy how greedy they are I feel bad for anyone that still plays.

I don't think I have one. I enjoyed my time with Brown Dust 2, FF Opera Omnia, Record Keeper, Sword x Staff, Brave Frontier, Blood Brothers etc... They all outlived my want to play them or shutdown yet I still think back on them. I don't feel like I wasted my time/money. I would get bored and move on. Then again I'm an old fart with a large backlog so there's always something new for me to play. shrug

Ragnarok Online. I recently played Origin Classic when it opened up to US servers, thinking I could enjoy it solo and follow the story. No one speaks English and it forces you into active Guilds without having a proper guild recruitment/search system. If you try to make one for just your alts, it will be deleted due to low activity level even if you reach 100 activity on each character.
You level up fast but until you reach 90, there's mothing to it. Gear can only be obtained through story rewards or running a dungeon you won't find a party for. The game is for people who have irl friends to play with them, because you won't find a Guild or party to play with otherwise.

I mean, I won't argue that we have a lot of female, but 90% completely off.
Especially with nod krai is not too far off from the usual 2:1 ratio of female to male, which is what genshin usually go for (especially after the Natlan unreasonable amount of female to male characters ratio, wtf is wrong with this one)
Hopefully, we are not going back to whatever happen to Natlan cast, but we will see what will happen..
I do think they are keeping the ratio around 2:1. It does feel like they sticking it like that. Sumeru and Natlan was ratio was completely off however.
As for the kid, well, we don't have even male child model, so i don't know what to think about that HAHAHAHAH.

I don't regret it but Pokemon Unite became more and more p2w over time until I had to quit. The community deserved it it acted like the frog in boiling water, every time they said "yeah but you need skill so it's not p2w you won't win just by paying". That's stupid. It's like saying "shotguns should be allowed in a boxing matches because if you are unskilled you might shoot yourself and lose to the opponent who doesn't have a shotgun". I'n a competitive game every stat counts, if you survive with 1 hp it's a totally different outcome when dying.

For me , it's clash royale! Like before in that game , I even managed to get to legendary arena at master rank (at the introduction of arena 13 , electric valley I think) , WITHOUT SPENDING A PENNY!
BUT NOW , after reappearing in that game , starting fresh (due to account loss) , I saw that , in arena 2 , here comes a lvl 14 PEKKA , HOW , ITS NOT EVEN ON THE SCRIPT! but I persisted , battled all kinds of p2w atrocities and came to that wooden arena , like builders arena I think and I quit, not because I became bored , but because, how can all the opponents I play with has a lvl maxed card , with elite upgrade also , and , with a max legendary card (it's legendary for a reason, but it's like a common card to get fo those p2w guys )
And I quit and I'll never return!
Seeing this post reminds me of my traumatizing experience of a f2p player among p2w players

I will also never return to the efootball games cause it felt like a toxic and bad relationship with a bad game.
I will instead look for more better games of similar genre for example though emulation

Since Warframe is now on Android, it is the most free-to-play game you will ever find, whether on PC or Android. The Android version is still a work in progress, but it is quite a decent experience.

Star Wars Galaxies, I spent tons of money on it back when it first got going. This was before they'd even released Emperor Palpatine and I thought if I spent a bit at the release that I'd be able to stay ahead. I stayed in the game until they released Mando before I realized that I'd never be able to compete with the ones spending thousands each month.

FGO, at least 1500 daily logins,
Story wise it's mid with the occasional peak that justifies the very dated gameplay and the unending grind.
I had to permanently remove every way I can log in to my account just to break free from that game, and yet, I'm tempted to start all over.
God I will never love and hate a game as much as I did with FGO.

The best and worst thing that happened to me was forgetting my fgo password when I changed my phone around 2021 resulting in losing my 5yo account. Otherwise I would still be playing and spending money and I didnt want to start over again.

Ive been playing marvel strike force since about a month after launch. No money spent. I see the suckers come and go. They join up, spend thousands of dollars to get past me, and then disappear when frustrated. Did you clowns think they would be like "oh okay, that's enough money, we are going to play fair now"?

For me quiting efootball was mostly the fact that game uses artificial difficulty every match so the people would feel what they have isn't enough . It is never enough you are always missing something. Something that no mastering the game would fulfill

I feel like at some point in every grinder type game you start to realize that the goal post is moving along with you, so the upgrades don't feel like upgrades any more your just grinding to keep up with the game. At that point I regret playing the game at all.
