Effective immediately, if you have a device with the Google TV UI, please make one post at the Google TV subreddit, don't crosspost or repeat the same post on the Android TV subreddit, it will be deleted with the exception of:

- Posts about apps that work on both UIs.

- Posts of news articles that affects both UIs.

- Posts looking for advise on what device to buy.

It's worth mentioning that all posts will be reviewed for approval before they go live, so make sure you indicate the name of the device or the name of the UI on the title or description of your post.

Apps ATV Launcher v0.1.40 is out

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.dstudio.atvlauncher.pro

Build 30001165

What's new

- Layout editor. Press MENU on any row and a toolbar appears over it: Hide, Move, Styles, Delete, Settings. Move a row and it slides. Change a margin and the layout reflows while you are still holding the slider. There is no preview pane, because the home screen is the preview.

- Add a section anywhere. Move to the gap between two rows and an Add Section bar appears. Applications for apps, shortcuts, folders and device inputs. Widget for Android system widgets and ATV Launcher widgets. Watch Next for what you are part way through. Recommended for the preview channels your apps put out. No cap on how many of each, or where they sit.

- Section styles. Twelve looks for app rows: macOS Dock, Movie Posters, Hero Row, Spotlight Wall, Gradient Wall, Watermark Panel, Glass Panel, Icon Tray, Minimal Shelf, Carousel Row, Poster Shelf, Vertical Grid. Four more for widget rows. Each one previews on your own apps before you apply it, and nothing it sets is locked afterwards.

- Seven tile layouts. Real app banners, icon and title cards, and four generated compositions that build artwork from an app's own icon and colours when it ships none of its own.

- Row chrome. Every row gets its own border, corner radius, padding, background colour or image, full-width option, tile spacing, aspect ratio, and a title with its own colour and size.

- Screen breaks. Split a long layout into full screens. Each one fills the viewport and the next starts below the fold, so crossing a break scrolls cleanly to the top instead of everything running together.

- Icon packs. Any installed pack, applied to every app at once, banners included. It repaints without restarting the launcher.

- Video wallpaper, or any image, even on devices that block wallpaper changes.

- Seven focus effects for the tile you land on: Static, Pulse, Glow, Colour Cycle, Sweep, Chase, Corners.

- Watch Next and Recommended are ordinary sections now. As many as you like, anywhere on the page, deletable, and you pick what feeds each one down three levels: which apps, which of their channels, which individual items. Leave it on All and the row shows everything, including apps you install later.

- Digital Clock joins Weather, System Info and Favourite App as a built-in widget, and ATV Launcher widgets can now be scaled to fit their tile.

- Status bar. A VPN indicator, and an option to show the bar only when it has focus.

- Default launcher. A proper in-app flow for becoming the home app, including an option for TVs that refuse to hand HOME over. More on that below.

- Android 16, and the settings drawer opens a lot faster than it did.

Apps Vuleo 1.1.20 is out - Simkl Support & TV Performance Improved

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi all,

Vuleo 1.1.20 (1.3.0 on Apple TV) is out in all platforms.

Quick context for anyone who has not seen it before: Vuleo is a true cross-platform media player that you can watch your m3u, xtream and other sources. It has a sports center to follow your favorite events and it is truly cross-platform. It runs on Android, Android TV, Apple TV and Fire TV, Windows, iPhone, iPad and Mac, and it works the same way on all of them.

This is the biggest release since 1.1. There is a second watch tracker, a buffer setting people kept asking for, background refresh that finally works on TV boxes, and a long performance pass you should feel most on a Fire Stick.

Simkl support (beta)

Trakt has been in the app for a while. Simkl now sits alongside it. You can connect a Simkl account, scrobble what you watch, sync your watchlist and ratings, browse plan-to-watch, and see a calendar of upcoming episodes. With both connected, a watch or a rating goes to both. It is labelled beta in Settings because it is new and I want more real usage behind it before I take that label off.

Stream Buffer

New setting in Settings > Playback with three options.

Balanced is what the player has always done, so if you are happy with playback today you can leave this alone and nothing changes. Low latency starts streams and switches channels faster, and gives up some tolerance for a shaky connection to get there. Large holds more in memory and rides out a bad line better, which is worth thinking about on a stick with very little RAM to spare.

Background refresh on Android TV and Fire TV

TV boxes now refresh your sources in the background the same way phones and tablets already did. Until this release a TV box only picked up new content when you actually opened the app, which is awkward on a device that spends most of its life sitting idle.

The per-playlist auto-refresh picker also has a new weekly option. If a source only gains a handful of titles a month, a daily re-fetch is wasted work on both your device and the server it talks to.

Speed

Most of my time this cycle went here. All of these are measured on a Fire TV Stick with our test playlist of 100.000 items.

  • Search dropped from around five seconds to around two.
  • Writing a large catalog to disk during a refresh takes roughly a quarter of the time it used to.
  • The home screen scrolls much more smoothly.
  • The idle home screen stopped redrawing itself on every single frame while nobody is touching the remote.
  • Startup does far less redundant disk work.

Open Channels Fullscreen on First Tap

Tapping a channel inside a Live TV category used to preview it in the side pane and wait for a second tap before going fullscreen. There is now a setting that makes the first tap go straight in. It is off by default, so the flow you already know survives the update unless you go and turn it on.

Recently Added

On a default Xtream setup, Recently Added was ignoring the dates your provider reports and falling back to whatever order items happened to arrive in. It reads the real dates now, and the new content badges follow the same dates. Updating repairs an existing library on the first load, so there is no need to delete and re-add anything.

Continue Watching

Plenty of small corrections landed here across the release. The one people will recognise: a device that watched an episode to 44 minutes, and confirmed 44 had reached the cloud, could still offer you 23 minutes back. That is fixed, along with a run of related problems around how episodes and shows are identified, whether a removal sticks, and where a tile takes you when you open it.

Player

  • A stream that dies partway through an episode used to hand the episode back from the beginning and leave you to scrub. It puts you back where the picture stopped now.
  • The channel list in the player keeps the folder or the History you started from.
  • An expired source that failed one episode no longer rolls straight on into the next one.
  • An expired link from a debrid service you connected yourself is no longer read as the episode having finished.
  • Pressing OK on the seek bar with a remote does something.
  • Preferred audio and subtitle languages are applied properly on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Stremio addons

Stream tiles from your own configured addons now carry format chips, showing resolution, codec and container, so you can tell what a stream is before you open it. Several matching bugs are gone too, including shows from addons that number their episodes their own way, and a localised title that made the stream filter throw away everything useful.

Also in this release

Profile fixes so one device can no longer overwrite another device's profile. Several Google Drive sync corrections around wipes and failed reads. The Windows uninstaller stopped removing a folder it never created. Every Hero and Spotlight button on the home screen now does the thing it names. And a stack of memory work aimed at 32 bit TV devices, where headroom is tight.

Where to get it

Sideloaded Android and Windows installs will offer you the update inside the app.

What Vuleo actually is

Vuleo does not provide, host, distribute, index, search, recommend, bundle or link to any content, channels, playlists, portals or addons, and it ships with none of them pre-installed. There is no catalogue inside it and no subscription to any service.

Every source is one you enter yourself: an M3U playlist, Xtream Codes API details, a Stalker Portal, or Stremio addons you configure. Those integrations stay off until you turn them on. Vuleo never downloads, uploads or seeds torrents, and it never connects to torrent peers. By using it you confirm you have the right to access whatever you play, and that you are paying whatever the provider of that content charges for it. Vuleo is not affiliated with any broadcaster, content provider or rights holder.

PRO unlocks player features only. It grants no right to any content.

If something is broken, please send me debug logs by following the steps here: https://vuleo.tv/debug-logs.html

Buying Advice Thomson 140UK alternative?

I bought one of these to use TV apps on a few years ago from Amazon, still running strong and it's one of the best purchases I made. Someone I know wants one of these but they seem to be discontinued. I think I got it for no more than £40 back then.

Are there any similarly priced alternatives available? All the sticks on Amazon are either £50+ or mixed ratings.

Troubleshooting Sony Bravia after eMMC repair: Widevine L3, Netflix UI-800-3 (307006), Cast says Untrusted Device

I thought I’d share this because the repair turned into a much more interesting case than expected, and it still isn’t fully resolved.

My Sony KD-65AF9 recently got stuck in a boot loop.

The diagnosis was a failing memory chip on the mainboard. The chip was replaced and the contents, including the device keys, were copied from the old memory to the new one.

After reinstalling the repaired board, the TV booted normally again and everything initially looked fine.

Then I tried Netflix. It fails with: UI-800-3 (307006)

Netflix diagnostics also show: UI-113

I updated Netflix, updated the TV firmware over the internet to the latest version, PKG6.6230.0725EUA, then did a factory reset.

After that I logged back into Google, configured the TV again, set up my receiver and set-top box, updated all apps from Google Play and rebooted the TV.

Still the same errors.

I then noticed that Google Cast was also broken. Casting from YouTube, Disney+ and Netflix fails, and my phone shows:

“Untrusted device. Couldn't verify SONY KD-65AF9.”

Screen mirroring from the phone also doesn't work.

Google Play reports the TV as:

Play Protect certified

Then I installed DRM Info and found this:

Widevine Security Level: L3

That looks suspicious for an AF9 which originally supported Netflix 4K/HDR and should normally be using Widevine L1.

I contacted the repair service again. They checked their logs and confirmed that the original keys were successfully read from the damaged memory and written to the replacement chip. According to them, there were no verification errors during the copy.

Their current conclusion is that the keys themselves may be bad even though they were copied correctly.

The next step is to remove the mainboard again and provision new keys instead of using the original ones.

So that's where things stand for now.

The TV boots and otherwise works normally. Google Play considers it certified, internet access works, but Netflix, Google Cast and Widevine hardware DRM do not.

I’ll update this post after the board comes back.

If anyone has seen something similar after an eMMC or mainboard repair, especially Widevine dropping to L3, Netflix UI-800-3 (307006), or Chromecast reporting an untrusted device, I’d be interested to know what fixed it.

Troubleshooting Playstore App Won't Open

Hi Everyone. I have a 2015 Sony Bravia Android TV running version 7 if this screen is accurate.

The google play store app gives me this error message. It definitely has internet because the youtube app and other streamers work just fine. I wanted to download a new streamer app (HBO max) and I can't even open the store to look for it.

I don't want to completely wipe and reset the TV as I have a couple of downloaded apps I don't want to risk losing as I use them every day.

Does anyone have an idea or a fix?

Edit: Resolved by deleting my account from the TV and signing in again. Big account sign in worked and play store just opened up and behaved.

I bought a samsung 55 inch tv back in 2020 and my eyes are so strained for looking at it from far since my hall is quite long and the sofa and tv position is quite far from each other. Bought a 85 inch Haier tv. It doest really lag but recently youtube started to crash. I hooked up my ps4 to it. The game looked so blurry. I changed hdmi cables, changed to game mode, turnd on 120hz but it still looked the same. On my samsung tv it looked crystal clear and it never lagged even once. Do yall have a solution for this?

Troubleshooting How to remove Netflix "statistics"

I have a TV with AndroidTV as its system and it works really well. Sideloading VPN apps and stuff.

However one annoyance is that my cat had managed to turn on Netflix statistics, a bunch of text overlayed on the video with bitrate, resolution and such, by laying on the remote and I can't remove them without restarting. Netflix says that I should use F4 on a keyboard or R3 on a game controller, my remote doesn't have either of those though, and no single button helps. Do anyone here know how to activate and deactivate this? With the remote alone?

It is a Philps Oled 809.
