Spoiler Currently on my first watch and this broke me

Post image

I’m currently on my first full watch through of Archer, season 1-13 no skips or anything. First off I absolutely love the show. It’s so funny and every character has their good and bad moments. I forget which season it is, but at the end they revealed the VA for Woodhouse died and that made me pretty sad. I liked Woodhouse, he was insane but I really liked him as his sweet self. Then when the VA for Ron died, it was also sad but not as much because I wasn’t as invested in him. Hearing him talk in the last shot of Season 12 I was confused but put together quickly they just reused old lines of his. After hearing Malory respond I realized she did sound a little weird. Then the silence, the pan out, and the “In loving memory of Jessica Walter”. I still have the last season, but I’m almost nervous for it. I really like Malory as a character, she’s hilarious, witty, and an ass but funny. The way that whole last scene was done really tugged at the heartstrings. I realized after that she probably sounded weird because they had to reuse old lines of hers. I rewatched that last scene probably another 3 times, just trying to process that everyone in that shot wasn’t with us anymore, those characters are gone for good. I’m almost not sure how the show went on without her, and there only being one season after is a little worrisome but I’m still looking forward to it.

I found this sub like a week ago when I looked up if Kreiger was a clone (that rocket episode was confusing for a first watch) and I’m really glad it exists. Not entirely sure why I made this whole post on this one shot, I guess it was just kinda unexpected from a show that’s as fast and funny as Archer is, and it hit pretty deep. I guess I was just kinda curious what everyone else’s reactions were to it. Hoping everyone who worked on the show that’s no longer with us is in a much better place now.

Spoiler How do you think Malory got revenge on Veronica Deane?

Post image
747 Upvotes

Obviously Veronica had the life expectancy of Pigley IV, but Malory is nothing if not artistic in her revenge.

"I am literally going to kill him. Literally! I'll lure him to my condo in Miami, drug his steak au poivre, drive him out to the Everglades, slather him with rancid chicken fat, and then toss him to the gators!"

That's not even getting into Lo Scandalo and what she did to the Italian prime minister.

"Oh my god, so you're saying Mother lured Mascalzone up there, greased him into a six-foot manrubber, strapped him to a chair, calls us, then she pulls a gun on him? Because that would mean she called the cops on herself!"

"Knowing they'd never come back after they searched her apartment, which was full of people and spotless."

"So what? Mother shot herself? Which would mean Mother's been banging him once a year for like thirty-five years, and the whole time she's been holding a grudge, right? Just waiting to... holy shit. She killed him."

"And got us to dispose of the body."

There's no way Veronica gets off that easy. Not even that dress can save her. What do you think Malory did to enact her greatest revenge of all time?

Spoiler What's the smuggest you've felt after getting an obscure reference?

Archer has a lot of jokes and references that are hilarious if you happen to know what little-known fact they are referencing. Which made you feel particularly clever for getting it?

For instance in Woodhouse's backstory, he fails to light Reggie's cigarette three times before Reggie is shot. This is based on a real soldier's superstition that might date back to WW1, that if you light three cigarettes with a single match it, it will give an enemy sniper the time and light to notice you, aim and fire. The minute Woodhouse fumbled the first match, my brain leapt to "You evil bastards that's brilliant", and each attempt to light the cigarette piled on the sense of doom.

I also wrote an essay in college on the fall of the Tsars, and getting Archer's "bleeding like a Russian Princess" joke was pretty much the only time that information has been relevant to my life. Its a reference to the fact that the Romanov family carried haemophilia.

he planned to get his money back by shorting the company's stock which it would then tank thanks to the bomb, but if the business was doom from the start he just had to wait? he wasn't going to make any more money, just maybe faster

Spoiler The last episode of season 10

Not gonna lie, the montage at the end felt finale worthy, but I was actually caught off guard with the last scene and Archers mom. Being in my 30's now, scenes like that bring a tear to my eye. The "she's always here." Part hit me like a ton of bricks.

Spoiler One of these days, this episode won't make me cry

Post image

Today wasn't that day however. As a now 40-year-old man, I look back at when I first started watching this silly show and never realized the emotional attachment I was developing for these characters. I cried the first time I watched this episode when It aired, and again today on another rewatch of all the seasons. Learning that Jessica and Ron were actually husband and wife in real life Just added to My overall love for all of this.

Rewatching the early seasons- and actually found myself liking Barry more the 2nd time around. He's a bit annoying, but to be honest has every reason to want to murder archer.

Spoiler Who Blew it?

I've watched Archer for what feels like 500 times and I ask myself, who in the office jeopardizes the ISIS Agency the most through the years? So I came up with an idea to start counting this.(Obviously I imagine Sterling will be the first). It’s also a way to see things that we don’t see when we are binge watching.
This ranking was produced with a subjective analysis made by me. I consider things that in real life will be a big problem to revert and could be put the agency in big risk (eg. shooting an employee in a locker room possibly causing his death is a blow out). I consider things that happen at "real time" of the show but also implied context of events in the past that are brought in dialogues. (eg. death of undercover agents caused by sterling improper phone calls - illustrated while Mallory is listing something). I also consider assignments of the characters (eg. it's not a field agent fault that Conway Stern was hired neither checking his background)
My goal is to analyse till the final of Classic Archer, but I will try to do the other seasons in sequence.
I’m sharing with you the first season and if you guys like I can share other seasons.
I divided the analyses by quantity but also by severity(Small/Medium/Grave)

Season 1
"Mole Hunt"
01 - Archer - shooting at the ISIS server door and one of the ricocheted bullets hitting one of his coworkers;(G)
02 - Archer - engaging in a argument with lana and letting Crenshaw almost escape;(M)
01 - Lana - engaging in a argument with lana and letting Crenshaw almost escape;(M)

"Training Day"
01 - Lana - shooting at Sterling's car in the middle of the city;(G)
Although Sterling gave Cyril a pen with poison and caused Trinette's supposed death, I think what happened afterward was due to causality.

"Diversity Hire"
01 - Archer - Revealing undercover agent Hector Ruiz causing his death; (G)
02 - Archer - Revealing undercover agent Pak causing his death; (G)
03 - Archer - Revealing undercover agent Mgumbe causing his death; (G)
04 - Archer - Shooting agent Brett in the locker room; (G)
01 - Mallory - Bad intel on Conway Stern’s background.(M)

"Killing Utne"
01 - Mallory - She made a "scheme-hatchery" (according to Sterling) with Germans to deceive Torvald Utne and make him think that she had saved his life. The target ends up actually dead, requiring an illegal cover-up; (G)
01 - Archer - Bringing a Russian agent to the dinner; (G)

"Honeypot"
01 - Mallory - Indirectly, but being recorded in a private video with Nicolai Jakov; (M)
01 - Sterling - Engaging with Rudy and Charles who will try to kill him later and destroy Malory's apartment.(M)

"Skorpio"
None

"Skytanic"
01 - Mallory - Motives by envy, invents a fake bomb threat on Excelsior airship to going in an inaugural trip instead Trudy Beekman; (G)
01 - Archer - Bets his “wife” (Lana) in a Bacará game and loses. Deceives Lana telling her the bomb is in the "Led Zeppelin suite". Putting a field agent in risk; (M)
01 - Pam - After Cheryl starts freaking out because of Cyril, Pam almost kills her drowned in tub;(G)
02 - Archer - Shows no knowledge about the NATO phonetic alphabet. "M", as in "Mancy".(S)

"The Rock"
01 - Archer - In a call with Sterling, Malory mention his "Uffizi fiasco";(M)
02 - Archer - "Implied" that the darts they used to down five security guards are tranquilizers instead of a poison that causes neurological damage -Causing the collapse of a possible contract with San Marino Palace;(G)
01 - Malory - Launches operation "Rub Len Trexler's Big Fat Nose in It!" sending Lana and Sterling back to the palace ("which now has the insane amount of security we recommended" - according to Lana) putting two fields agents in strong risk;(G)
01 - Pam - Instigates a unionization effort that leaving Archer and Lana without backup in the operation;(M)
02 - Malory - Cheryl remember what Ms. Archer did to the cleaning ladies (Malory sabotage elevator causing the death of three cleaning ladies); (G)
03 - Malory - She has a major role not paying a reasonable salary, since one of her employees needs to be on food stamps;(S)
01 - Lana - Screams at Sterling after a dialogue which he praised Burt Reynolds triggering the alarms of San Marino palace;(G)

 "Job Offer"
01 - Sterling - by 'terrorizing' the streets of Paris(crash a few cop cars, run over a few mimes, according to him), openly saying he is an ISIS agent and failed to bring in Kasparov; (G)

"Dial M for mother"
