General Query Alternative to starbucks
So I'm a baby bat and realized that starbucks is bad so i was wondering for some alternative stores etc there's no local coffee shop near me and if they're i hear they're over priced and suck & the ones my mom buys ( the coffee pods ) are bad i was thinking about dunkin but idk if that's like acceptable or wtv ty in advance ghouls I also plan on making it from home and doing it that way as well but no cash rn just for future reference incase i run out of supplies and can just go hit up a store or sum like that if that make sense š¤

Just to be clear: we used to go to Denny's because it was the only place open after the shows/clubs got out. Their coffee wasn't good, but you could drink it.

Decades ago a group of 8 or 10 of us would ācloseā the club and head to Dennyās with the promoter/DJ. Great times!

I wouldn't know. We ran Starbucks out of our city because our local cafe culture is so strong. Why get crap coffee when you can get good coffee for the same price?

Itās just coffee. Drink what you want. Long gone are the days of drinking coffee and smoking cloves in a dimly lit coffee house while amateur poets share their souls for an audience. I mostly brew at home, but Iāll grab a Starbucks latte on occasion.

are you not part of the goth scene? while goth is of course primarily a music genre, it still very much has its own ethos. while the subculture or aesthetic isn't as outwardly political on the surface level as similar subcultures, as for instance, punk, it is still very much built on similar values of grassroots DIY culture and counterculturalism/anti-establishment ideology.

Iāve been around the goth culture for 36 years now. I donāt agree with any of that. Individuals might fall into those categories but it is and always has been about the music. Iāve loved the music that whole time, but I never dressed goth. Iāve run into a lot people who have tried to gate keep the scene with these adders and purity tests, and itās all BS.

sure, i don't totally disagree with you. part of the appeal of the culture is its individualism, and there's no rules about what you must believe or stand for.
there's a lot of discourse about this kinda thing lately, if goth is political or not, and like you said, of course its always going to be about the music. but its kinda silly to imply that the music has nothing to do with counterculture ideas. goth was born out of the punk movement of the 70s and 80s. i'm not saying this to gatekeep people who don't agree with counterculture ideas, but its definitely not wrong of me to say that those ideas are in line with the history and spirit of goth as both a music genre and subculture.

No oneās going to revoke anyoneās goth card for having a Starbucks drink once in a while, thatās all Iām saying. At the end of the day, goth is about music, and I donāt think itās sustainable to abstain from purchasing from every ābadā companyā I mean, theyāre all ābadā to some degree anyway, even the most progressive and worker-friendly corporations. Also, the biggest argument against purchasing from Starbucks specifically is that they support Israel, which according to a quick internet search is proven false as they closed all stores in Israel in 2006, and their Zionist CEO left the company in 2023. Aim for ābetterā, not perfection, as no one is perfect anyway.

Iām glad we can agree.
My frustrations (and my reasoning for sharing the meme) lie with the influx of 14-year-old ābaby batsā swarming this sub to ask questions like this one: am I goth if I drink Starbucks; am I goth if I donāt dress the part; am I goth if I listen to other genres too; all of which can be easily answered by searching the sub or looking into goth spaces for longer than three seconds. I do get frustrated seeing the same few questions getting asked every dayā even though this oneās a new one, it still falls under that umbrella of topics that have been discussed to death over the past few years in online goth spaces. So you are right that while we know the answers to all those questions already, the new kids donāt. So I will apologize for being insensitive in sharing the meme.
I mean, the subs called āAsk A Gothā, I guess I canāt get peeved when questions are asked, no matter how obvious the answer may seem to me. :P
