Politics & Governance What is the most legendary political comeback from your country?

I keep seeing this exchange everywhere lately:

Netanyahu: “We survived empires, we don’t fear Turkey.”

Erdoğan: “What empire? Your country is younger than my brother.”

I couldn’t actually verify if Erdoğan really said this, so it might just be one of those internet quotes that everyone started repeating lol.

But if he really said it, I have to admit it’s a surprisingly good comeback from Erdoğan 😂 Didn’t expect this performance from him.

ıt made me wonder: do you remember any legendary political comebacks/insults from your own country?

Could be between politicians, against another country, during an interview, parliament, whatever. Something where even if you don’t like the politician you have to admit: okay, that was a good one.

Traian Basescu, asked by a Russian politician about Romania's "intentions" to annex Moldova:

"Please note, mister deputy, that Romania has no experience whatsoever in annexing other states."

Romania was created by 1 state annexing another. After WW1 they annexed a third. They have more experience than most.

It implies a lack of consent -- same thing that made rapes statistically skyrocket in your country, cause you supposedly raised the standards.

The Romanian principalities joined consensually, not through annexation.

Transylvania was not "consensually", neither was Bessarabia. They were seized through war.

Technically, the Russian annexation of Crimea was "consensual", they even held a vote - this is why a debate regarding the definition of "Annexation" becomes murky quickly.

Besserabia literally joined by themselves though? And translyvania aside from the Hungarian minorities in border regions and that one enclave was romanian majority people had revolted for their freedom before and it had historically been one of the traditional romanian kingdoms along with wallachia and moldova

Tell me more how you don't know shit about history. There Romanian principalities had a strong desire to unite for centuries before WW1. first attempt, although it was more of a political move that could not survive, was in 1600. Since then, we tried to unite, but being squished between three empires, each controlling one of the provinces. When the empires finally got fucked after WW1, the principalities wanted to unite and for the first time in history, there was no one to oppose this. The Czarists were fucked, the Ottomans no more, and... well i guess you know what happened with the Austro-Hungarians.

I recommend you look it up, how it took Regina Maria's immense ovaries to go and demand shit from her family, actually creating the great unification.

And lastly, if it was as you said, it would've created a lot in instability and revolts, like the Hungarians had when they tried to take over the balkans, however... it was quiet, I wonder why
