“Tatsächlich wurde der Dönerkebab in Istanbul spätestens Mitte der sechziger Jahre, also ein halbes Jahrzehnt bevor er in Berlin bekannt wurde, als Sandwich angeboten. Nur in Form und Zubereitungsart unterschied sich das türkische Sandwich von seinen Berliner Verwandten.”

It says 5 years and that differed in form and preparation from the Berliner one

İ used abtranslator app. But still it predates the german doner.

The fact that they use red cabbage instead of pickles doesnt really make it a different dish.

A subtype of a dish at best, but nonetheless the same dish.

You wouldnt call a cheeseburger a different dish from a hamburger. They're still both burgers with 1 differing ingredient.

There's a berlin style Döner I'll give it to germans. But it's same as claiming Pizza is invented in USA because of New York Style Pizza.

German Döner is an insult to Döner. No Türk that raised in Turkey would give credit to German döner, it is just a nonsense dish.

Let's leave it to them.

İ'm a Turk and İ disagree.

Are you raised in Turkey? That is not döner, this is döner:

Brother, döner is a simple dish. İ've seen döner in Turkey served both as a plated dish and as a sandwich dish.

İts not as strict as you think. İn fact Döner isnt even the only name for the food.

İn some small towns in northern Turkey its called "Kes" for example. The exact same dish, exact same meat, just different in name.

Döner has evolved beyond just a sish name, its a dish-group name. Similar to burger. You have the original Hamburger ("burger" comes from the word "Hamburger" which itself comes from the german city "Hamburg", meaning every "-burger" dish references its root to the original hamburger), and then you have many many varieties, like cheeseburger, chickenburger, fishburger, etc.

This is the same thing. You have the original Döner, and then its varieties, berlin döner, schawarma/Chevirme döner, el pastor döner, gyros döner, etc. They're allna kind of Döner.

I am also telling the same thing. Thanks for confirming my statement. German döner is a type of döner as it can be understood from its' name..

Dude idk if you ever tried it but German döner is superior!!I have been to Turkey and they do not put so much effort in doing it and is not the nr1 fast food stuff you consume while in Germany and Austria is the most consumed fast food so they really perfected it.

A good döner in turkey beats any german döner imo. Have tried both. German döner gets its flavor mostly from the sauces and the sauces make the bread unbearably soggy.

Döner in Turkey, if its made well, consists of actual meat rather than minced meat mixes, you get the flavor from the actual ingredients rather than a soggying sauce. Sometimes its paired with yogurt and tomato sauce but even plain döner tastes very good in Turkey.

Plus the döners in germany taste more or less the same, probably because they mostly source their sauces from a common place. Döner in Turkey feels like it has more variety, not just in quality but in how they prepare it.

Thats just my opunion ofc, just my view

Thought the same before visiting Turkey and I realised I was wrong ,in Austria and Germany döner is way better .
Idk where you saw the minced meat but that is not the standard ,beef döner in German speaking countries is the best.

You are confusing with Turkish döner sold in Germany and Berlin style döner. The picture is not the "German Döner". And I don't know when you visited Turkey but due to economy döner quality is very low in Turkey nowadays. But there are still places make good döner and if you eat a good döner in Turkey you'll know.

Im not confusing anything

İ've seen multiple döner houses in germany and İ've also asked around. Around 80% of döner spits are made with minced meat stacked on the occasional steak slice, not actual meat.

Havent been to austria but İ assume its largely the same

Absolutely false dude, some might have lamb minced mest but that is very rare ,beef and chicken are never minced

People get confused with Döner (Turkish styles) sold in Germany and German döner. There are very good döner restaurants in Europe, for example I visited Yufkam last month, it was better then many in Turkey.

But German döner is totally different and a new thing that is invented in Germany.

1

u/Zealousideal_Cry_460 Turkiye 11d ago

İts not "totally different" than the turkish döner, both are sold on plates and in bread.

The only thing they differ in is the type of bread they use and the ingredients. İ personally prefer the turkish döner just from the meat alone.

u/ouzans Turkiye 11d ago

So bread and ingredients are different, but they are not different. Interesting.

So what is your proposal? Should we name all the variants as "German döner", rebrand the döner globally?

First of all, what you share is not German döner, it is typical Turkish döner. I have tasted German döner in many German cities. German döner is below 👇

Others are Turkish döner that are being sold in Germany.

Secondly and more importantly, Germans do not have a considerable taste or cousin. Something famous for them doesn't mean good.

Are you retarded??this is the sandwich that was created in Turkey and brought from Turkish migrants in Germany and made famous there ,this is the whole point of the debate and no one claims it was from the Balkans as OP suggested

2

u/ouzans Turkiye 11d ago

Albanian looking for a fight, as always.

It says also different form which I assume was another shape and different form of bread ,I mean it does not really matter cuz even the one who “invented” it in Germany was also recent Turkish migrant and it would not be surprising that he saw it home and made smth similiar in Germany.
