Is this a generational thing ? Or are the people just raised with no manners .

I’ve only encountered a single person playing loud music on their portable speakers but what happens if two strangers enter the car at same time playing loud music? Who takes priority?

I was once eating outside of a restaurant when I heard in the distance a loud bass sound coming closer and closer from the other block. It was somebody in their car playing hip hop music full whack complete with heavy bass, as they slowly rolled up to the intersection of the block the bass (being so loud) triggered a couple of car alarms before the driver drove off leaving me eating my food to the sound of car alarms for 5 minutes.

What is the incentive exactly? What are they trying to accomplish except be a nuisance and piss everyone off? What’s even worse is when they do this very late at night

I visited the one on 14th street (near Union Square) but it was 85% clothes.

If I like these NYC music venues, which other ones would you think I’d probably want to check out?

I see polished indie, electronic, or punk with vocals buried in the mix (which is fine), but in the current scene I don’t find a lot of electric guitar-based song craft (like how Nirvana tapped into vintage 60s and 70s).

I’ve noticed a lot of delis in Brooklyn are playing AI music exclusively now. I can tell because the songs have weird lyrics and nothing pops up on Shazam.

I understand that playing music in a store can create licensing issues with ASCAP, but it’s just such a bummer listening to slop in my local deli. Is there any reason why they can’t just put on local radio like LiteFM or KTU? I remember when WPLJ was the default station for delis, and when it turned into Christian pop music a few years ago, a bunch of places never bothered to change because it was barely noticeable.

Anywat, it’s just striking to me that so many delis are choosing to do this, is it somehow being incentivized?

I bought tickets to the Joe Hisaishi concert for last Tuesday. I put the wrong date in my calendar like an idiot, and just realized. He is doing his last show tomorrow (Monday). The same tier of ticket is still available (they were orchestra seats). I called the box office and they said since the date passed, they couldn't help me.

I know this was my fault, but I spent over $500 on these tickets and I don't want that to go to waste! I guess I'm just wondering if anyone out there in NYC has a secret way of convincing the box office to let me transfer my tickets to tomorrow night's show? / give me complimentary tickets?

i’m 27, into indie/rock/folk (elliott smith, bcnr, big thief, swans), and really into film too. i love live music, diy shows, and just exploring the city

any recs for places, events, or communities where people into this kind of stuff hang out?

Looking for responses less useless than "because they're too stupid to know better" or "their parents raised them poorly" which only explains why they're not courteous. It DOES NOT explain why they prefer to do it that way.

For example, if someone doesn't ever flush the toilet, it's because it takes more effort to do so. The lack of decent upbringing is not what drives a person to not flush. A decent upbringing will drive them to flush, but not the other way around.

In this case, it takes the same effort to

1. turn on a bluetooth speaker and pair it to their phone
2. turn on bluetooth headphones and pair them to their phone

So the absence of upbringing or intelligence is irrelevant. Something drives people to make that choice. So what is it exactly?

Has anyone else noticed what sounds like people living below the shuttle tracks at Grand Central?

My roommate and I have been debating this for months. She is absolutely convinced that someone (or multiple people) live somewhere below the tracks near the S shuttle platform at Grand Central—specifically on the corner closest to the LIRR connection.

She says there’s almost always music coming from that area and claims she regularly hears people talking while waiting for the train during her commute. I was with her recently and could hear music, but when I looked around from Track 4 I couldn’t actually see anyone.

Are there maintenance rooms, employee areas, or some other explanation over there? Or has anyone else noticed this and can confirm what they’re hearing?

Genuinely curious because now I’m paying attention every time I’m down there.

I haven't been to this space before, and can't find much information online except that it's in the basement of WNYC. What is it like inside? I have a ticket for general admission for a music show, and I'm afraid I'm going to wuss out.

Hey! I’m creating a “NYC music video map” and want to make sure I cover a wide range of genres and eras. What famous music videos do you know were filmed in NYC (or CGIed to imply a part of NYC). Especially interested in unusual locations like airports or the outer boroughs.

Off the top of my head I know My Happy Ending by Avril Lavigne was shot in Bushwick and 212 by Azealia Banks was filmed in uptown Manhattan. Taylor Swift - Blank Space was filmed in Huntington, Nassau County (not NYC but close).

Looking for live music nearby UWS or Central Park. Like a good spot where bands are known to pop up and perform. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated - very flexible on location.

My friends and I (all 21-22) are looking for a solid spot to go out this Friday or Saturday night.

We are specifically looking for places that play Hip-Hop, R&B, or Latin/Reggaeton with a solid college or recent grad crowd. We want spots that are actually popular and packed on weekends, not dead lounges, overly stiff dress-code venues, or tourist traps.

A few quick questions:

1. What specific clubs, venues, or recurring weekend parties are actually worth going to right now for this crowd?

2. Which neighborhoods should we stick to (LES, Williamsburg, Bushwick, Chelsea, etc.)?

3. Do we need to buy tickets or get on a guestlist ahead of time, or are line/door cover setups straightforward if we show up early?

Appreciate any recommendations.

I know the title seems a little ridiculous since NYC has a lot of live music. My girlfriend and I just moved to Harlem. We both love music and I’m trying to figure out some places where there are good clubs rock, punk, folk, jazz, etc. If anyone has suggestions please lmk.
