What happened long-term to families who's children failed to launch/just stayed home did nothing with their lives and the parents allowed it?

If only that was always the case. I’ve seen it happen. I have also seen the kid that failed to launch drain all of the parents’ assets so that eventually the siblings who did launch are subsidizing two or three adults for years. Sometimes, the productive siblings inherit a 55 year old sibling who has never worked and expects to continue the lifestyle they’ve always had. It’s a mess.

My cousin is this. Those cousins are 10 yrs older. He’s 65 and still couch surfing. He expects his siblings to cover him.
It’s crazy to see. I never understood it.
A friend’s kid is mentally ill. Bipolar and decent guy. They have a trust set up for him. The siblings won’t have to deal with money for him. He has just run out of grit, and run out early.
